Love the intro for Half Life as it gives you the immersion and feel for the setting, making you realizing how large and expansive the Black Mesa facility is and that you're only been to a very small portion of it.

Play the game and see all this organically, as no it's not hidden but rather in your face and part of the game's DNA it conveys to the player.

it's funny because at the time I hated the game. I played the first 4-5 hours and uninstalled bored out of my mind.

fast forward 10 years later when I was an adult I played it again and I can appreciate how good it is. I guess my younger self was not feeling it.

For me, it was about expectations at the time. The first time I played Half-Life, I was asking "where's my gun?". That's because I'd come from games like Quake 2. Half-Life was really genre breaking in it's convention of simply not giving the player a fun for about the first hour. My appreciation for what Valve did grew over time.

Indeed 98' was an insane year

I was off the back of several games that christmas, we had Metal Gear, Resi 2, thief the dark project, loads of others

I got my first gaming PC that could handle FPS games so was keen to try if out and I just remember thinking it was boring in comparison to what else came out that year and what I was able to play that Christmas time.

In hindsight that year was nuts in terms of quality releases. We didn't appreciate it at the time
