  • DRM-free games marketplace ZOOM Platform has issued a statement claiming payment processors have expressed concern about its content
  • A ZOOM Platform employee told GamingOnLinux that a broader range of games, such as the Duke Nukem series, are "at risk" of being removed
  • A spokesperson told This Week in Videogames that discussions with payment processors had flagged the series, as well as GTA and Saints Row, as potential targets.

"In the course of our discussions with the payment processors, going over the content contained within games on our store, including the Duke Nukem franchise, we were made aware of loosely defined language, rules from credit card companies, that could include Duke Nukem's portrayal of women."

"When we pressed for more details, given that such language cast a wide net, we were told that Grand Theft Auto, and similar titles such as Saints Row, could very well fit this description."

"By focusing on the most inflammatory games available, Collective Shout is trying to gain support for a broad ban of content… If puritan groups are able to dictate what people worldwide are allowed to spend their money on, it threatens video games' ability to operate as art in any way whatsoever"
Ha! Take that incest games... w-wait wtf!

Take 2 is going to be our saviour in all this. If Visa and Mastercard block these games with GTA VI coming out real soon then it's very likely Take 2 will sue them. They spent over a billion dollars making the game, there's no way they will sit idly by and watch sales tank because of this nonsense.

Imagine the advertising against this.

These fucknuts from Australia think you shouldn't play gta6. These people, these FOREIGNERS hate FREEDOM. GTA6. An American Institution.

Go ahead, piss off the internet at large. Payment processors wouldn't be processing anything after their entire network gets butt fucked by every hacking group on the planet and their phone lines are completely bogged down by complaints.

If Steam really gave a shit they would have just implemented a system where you buy steam bucks and use those to buy the game, rather than the payment processor.

*technically GTA VI is a Scottish institution as well - it's a parody of the US/US culture.

Yeah I have no idea why the fuck anyone who was hand waving this (on this forum no less) thought it would only stop at incest and rape games. Hell it wasn't even a week when another game (I don't recall the name) was pulled and it had no pornographic material in it. This is definitely the credit card processors testing what they can get away with, and it was easy to initially target rape/incest games as no one generally is going to go to bat for them, but this sets a precedence that they will continue to push as far as they can. And I'm sorry, but no matter what kind of content I choose to spend my money on, some puritan women's group in Australia can fuck right off with trying to dictate what I have access to under the veil of "but think of the children".

How many times must the lesson be learned?

The idea that this wave of ridiculousness would go after the biggest franchise in the world is hilarious. I almost want it to happen just for the monumental fuckup that would be and how it would ideally lead to restrictions on what payment processors can and cannot enforce given their essential status in the world.

Remind me where VISA and Mastercard are from.

The censorship STARTS in Murica and spreads elsewhere, it's not the other way around.

Freedomlievers are in for a rude awakening when GTA 6 releases.

Is this activity by payment processors affecting products other than video games? I've only heard of the age verification on porn in UK and red states but figured that was a bit different.

This is kinda clickbaity. It's just one game selling platform telling us their opinion.

But, Collective Shout tried to ban GTA 5 and Detroit: Become Human once, but that still failed.

We can only guess their next move. If they try fucking over anime fans in the West in some form by banning popular anime games or delisting anime from streaming platforms they may face wrath of the likes which they have never seen before. Even right now weebs are spamming Mastercard phone lines with calls just because they took their softcore porn games.

Mastercard and Visa are the scum of the earth. A de facto duopoly, with disgustingly high margins and predatory practices everywhere.

And the worst thing is, you basically can't avoid them in the west.
