Well, you have to understand how videogame scores work for most people and videogame journalism. A big-name that doesn't get a 9? May as well be throw it to the wolves.

If any other developer made a middling JRPG like this there would be 3s across the board. Only the SE name and FF brand have carried this clunker this far. At the expense of the SE and FF brand names, ironically enough.

XV had better be spectacular.

Edit: A 7 (and lower) for a mainline AAA game is terrible. Not sure why people are arguing to the contrary. We're not talking Star Ocean or Atelier Rorona. This is THE defacto JRPG.

So there could very well be a lot of 7s because that's the lowest their editors let them give it.

Square hasn't been a straight A student since FFX. 7 is a good score and I imagine people who enjoy Final Fantasy games (such as myself) will pick it up and enjoy it. May not be the best game ever, but seems solid and a lot of fun.

The story has always been garbage. I don't get it. I liked FFXIII because of the battle system and the visuals. The less time I have with the shitty characters the better.

Might get this at some point. Have a feeling they'll port this to PS4 or PC

Got to play around with a review copy for a few hours and all of these 7's are very generous in my opinion. I know that usually isn't enough time to judge a RPG but the game is seriously flawed. I liked XIII, never got a chance to play XIII-2, and was actually looking forward to trying this game out based on the early impressions.

I guess people who love the Lightning Saga will suffer through the game, but I feel like if it wasnt a Final Fantasy it would be scoring 4's and 5's.

Because many of us have played and greatly enjoyed games that were topping out at 7. But like I was getting at it's the size of the release that makes this a big deal. It's like a CoD only getting 7s, something went very, very wrong for that to happen.
