I think the fact that it's airing in NA the same time that NPD numbers release might be a sign that they have something special. Maybe, maybe not. But certainly they must be confident about their showing, given that the entire industry will already be online this afternoon for NPD results.

Granted that Sakurai has been working on it since March of 2012 and that it'll come out at some point this year (barring any delays) it has to be at some level of being almost complete. There's about 2 years of development time there. (i believe Brawl was the same way before the delays)

A lot of GAFers in Nintendo threads, yes. The average Joe knows nothing about it whatsoever though.
It’s my most anticipated game (along with Witcher 3) but I don’t think it’s really on the radar of that many gamers outwith threads like these.
