Nintendo Direct Feb 13, 2014 Thread | 3DS/Wii U Spring games

No SMT IV for EU. This direct has failed big time. At least we have signs of Etrian Odyssey Untold Legends though.EU people need to make some noise about where the hell SMT IV is. We need a new thread with some plan. This shit is bad.

The Nintendo Direct was boring and predictable, especially for Wii U gamers. There was hardly any new worthwhile content announced besides that nes remix 2, really?

3DS faires better but's still a disappointment. Oh well, at least this will give me time to clear more backlog.

About Wii U, gosh, Nintendo is heavily invested into the 3DS, don't they realize it's the otherwise that's actually needs big support to try an effort to turn things around? 3DS is already dominating, Vita is doomed, they don't need to put all their efforts on it anymore. Wii U is the platform now in need of primary support. Is their profit centric management really that stupid to not actually see that's happening?

3DS games are greenlit years in advance dude! They might as well finish them off now and make money. Cant you already see how it's fizzling out and attention is turning to Wii U? 3DS is a lot more barren 1st party wise this year so far.
 
I am afraid Nintendo is working more in their next home console than WiiU games , the next E3 will clarify this. I was hopping for at least one big new game at this ND. Basically we have the same games for WiiU. Time will tell.
 
I really don't know what the fuck they are doing. E3 didn't have a bunch of new Wii U games, and now 6 months later they're still talking about games from a January 2013 Direct.

the europe one on ustream was bad, bad. I was watching a black screen from time to time. The japanese one was easier to watch.

I'm from Europe, already played it, it's pretty meh IMO. Great ideas but bad execution, the RPG elements are barebones, too many cinematic techniques you can't skip during the matches, you can totally break the CPU's way of playing and win 5-0 most of the matches, the plot is unoriginal and predictable.

Oh, ok so yeah, the Wii U is fucking dead.


- X is looking good, but seriously, it isn't gonna move systems. It's a deep looking RPG, for RPG people.

- Bayonetta 2, I don't even know. Not gonna move systems, average looking at best with a hot witty character. Those people are on the other consoles.

- SSBB: I'm so, so sad that this won't save the console. This is a game which sells to an existing userbase/fanbase, which, well yeah. (A few hundred thousand consoles sold around launch, I'm predicting)

- MK8: Did they just throw in every random mini-boss ever? (Yeah, I know who they are, but they really, REALLY aren't as iconic as Nintendo seems to think) Might be the best shot Nintendo has, but I'm not hoping for much.

- DKCR2: Again, sells to an existing userbase. "Another platformer" however great it may be, isn't gonna get many people to pay >$200 to play it.

- NES Remix 2: Nice, thanks, it's a small fun minigame collection. Not sarcastic, it's looking like great fun, but what's it doing to save the console it's on other than not costing much to produce?

Again, great looking games, bad system.
And what the fuck are the EAD studios working on? Except for MK8, there's nothing!

I've always kind of thought all this MM teasing would mean it would get announced at E3 with Zelda U as a cross-hype thing. As in, the new Zelda won't get released until 2015 so they'll try to tide people over with the MM 3DS announcement. I've also thought there would be a slight MM connection in Zelda U, which would help sell both games -- but who knows.

Their teams are struggling. They can't keep up the pace with HD Wii U games and 3DS games that are more resource intensive than ever before.

Iwata needed to have the foresight to expand during the Wii and DS years, especially after seeing HD development problems in 2005. He didn't.

Thus, there are no games to show. There are no bombs to drop.

The mask was an easter egg, nothing more, nothing less. While I'd love a Majora's Mask remake, raising hope for it to be announced at any direct is just a recipe for disappointment. I'll believe the rumors when I see physical proof that they could announce it and not "Well it COULD be announced"

I don't think the main problem is the lack of new Wii U games- the problem is the games we have known about as 2014 do not look to be coming soon. Even Mario Kart is basically summer now.
 
Also, the GBA VC announcement for Japan was something like 8 titles with firm release dates coming out very quickly. The US announcement was "Here's three coming sometime in April bye!"

They made a Pilotwings game in 2011. Didn't sell that well. The same team then was put to remake Donkey Kong Country Returns and that did amazingly well.

So there's your answer.

Nope, no GBA slot from DSi onwards :(

The 3DS still has the GBA hardware, but no slot (the Ambassador GBA games aren't emulated, they're running directly on the hardware, which is why they lack save states/sleep functionality).
 
One of the better NDs, had everything I expected really. X looks absolutely terrific, cannot wait and glad it's at least aiming for 2014. Bayo 2 looks insane and MK8 looks absolutely sublime. Awesome stuff.

Still can't quite work out why I don't like the look of Yoshi's New Island though. Just don't dig that style.

Announcements do not sell consoles.

They sell preorders.

And 1) pre orders are not a huge driver for this audience 2) in requirements dollars and commitment at retail from the publisher and Nintendo is focused on dk and mk8 at retail right now

It's nice to want things but it's silly to get angry because there are realities involved in these decisions

They said we would hear more about the QOL platform this year, which means they must be on stage at E3 this year. You don't announce a health platform on a ND as the mainstream CNN-type press won't cover it, but they might if it's a big show. My expectation is they'll balance the press conference with casual QOL and then do an extravagant Zelda reveal as well as show their new NFC game along with maybe one other big announcement.
 
GAF can really take the joy out of just enjoying Videogames.

I mean everything here (except that baseball shit...seriously wat) looks great to me (especially Kart, Bayonetta, and BASED LIL MAC) and yet I come here and it's nothing but rage.

Can't we just enjoy the games we know we are getting? I could see if all you had is a WiiU and I understand that you;d like to see more but this is how great games get overlooked (see W101).

The games will come...and if they don't, we still have these games.

Seeing people upset that ALL they showed was X, Mario Kart, Bayonetta, Smash, FDK, and the 3ds games is a bit sad.

Once a game is announced, it's like it is dead to some.

This, this I would like much more than a plain 3DS remake. Hell, MM is not even my favourite Zelda. But I really dig the story, feeling of mystery and atmosphere. If Zelda U turned out to be a Majora and

origins, it would seriously make me forget all the years Nintendo has been shitting over us.
 
Couldn't watch due to the stream not working on my tablet and the youtube stream somehow being region locked, but after all my past experiences with Nintendo Directs, I didn't get hyped at all, and had 0 expectations. Which seemingly was the correct approach, from reading the comments here.

I thought it was a great direct.
 
Overall pretty satisfied. The 3DS stuff was cool but I kept wanting it to be over. But, the Smash opener was crazy, DK looks amazing, X looks good but needs more polish. And then Mario Kart and Bayo 2. OH MAN. Pretty good, no real big announcements and the drought is gonna suck. But they'll probably release maybe one big announcement per direct until we get to E3. Then they need to fill their release schedule up or they are dead in the water
 
E3 should be make or break as far as Iwata is concerned. They conduct business these days as if the Wii U is just slightly behind the other consoles when it is about to get left in the dust.

I happen to love my Wii U and have plenty of games to play and there seems to be a metric shit ton of indie games coming but where are the 1st and 2nd party games? Why is everything still such a secret when they are hemorrhaging cash lately?

It's not silly to get frustrated that one of the greatest players in the industry has fallen so far from grace. Disastrously slow development with safe, stale titles and the worst home console they've ever released.

You can understand the realities while acknowledging that the realities of Nintendo are frustrating and, for some, angering.

They did, and no one bought it.
 
I think that this Direct has pretty much confirmed that Nintendo has shifted focus to creating software for the launch of their next system. They will release everything that has already been announced, plus random little piddling projects like NES Remix, and that will be that.

Still can't believe the first half of this year is even more barren than the first half of last year.
