New 'X' trailer [Monolithsoft] shows uncut gameplay

That looked very good. Xenoblade with mechs, which is good. It would be nice if Monolith can revise the battle UI to be more minimal without sacrificing usability.

Nothing mindblowing here though, partially due to this being raw unedited gameplay footage. The reveal trailer was more awe-inspiring.

That looked disappointing.

I am 15 hours into Xenoblade and absolutely hate the battle system. More of the same is definitely a bummer.

I hope this will have Mitsuda music and many plottwists like in Xenogears. Hopefully the main character will be as dark as Fei and the villain will be epic as Grahf.

As I suspected X looks like a last gen mess.

The graphics are not good. It looks boring like Xenoblade. The battle system is just as bad too. Ugh I wish Wii U was more powerful the game has some potential

I haven't played Xenoblade, but I really don't see the appeal.

Battle looks cluttered and an overall mess, with animations without any weight behind them. A d the huge open fields just evoke an MMO vibe where you're gonna be wandering around aimlessly hunting for shit.

I guess I should play Xenoblade to get it but idk

Seems the majority of the music is by Hiroyuki Sawano, actually. He did Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill and lots of other anime scores.

I think this game is looking awesome. Can't wait to play it when it comes out. I had no problems with the battle system in Xenoblade, so I'm all good. :D

It's a sequel to Xenoblade.

In other news, water is wet.

Seriously tho, what the fuck were people expecting? It's still going to be a great game.

The combat can be tiring after some time. Try switching out the leader. The characters play so differently that it can be refreshing playing with each one and switching when you get bored.

The stuff you're able to notice is insane. Sounds like a really interesting risk vs. reward mechanic.

Onilink is far better than I am at it. But yes, the combat seems much deeper than at first glace.
There's lots of little things in it that really changes up the strategies. Something that Xenoblade lacked a lot of.

The direction and angle of attacks has much more influence on the damage you do. You can switch weapons on the fly for short and long range. There seems to be more elemental abilities for all characters. There also seems to be more than one Fever type ability that boosts damage.

Ehh...they are entitled to their opinion. It would be nice if there could be another thread for those trying to break the battle system down.

Sure, people are entitled to their opinions. I never said otherwise. But I, in return, am entitled to discern the good ones from the bad ones.

No you pretty much got it.

Xenoblade was only hyped so much because Wii Stans had almost 0 JRPGs to play and so the few that came out were hyped to kingdom come. Only for them to be average JRPGs

Here we go. The "Wii owners couldn't recognize good games" rationale. You are obscenely obnoxious, you know that?

I think that, you are tying too hard with the troll baits.

I just noticed something cool (or I'm late to the party)
The new attack ranges work in 3D rather than 2D. In Xenoblade certain moves only worked from the front, back or sides of the enemies. X recognizes 9 coordinates adding a vertical dimension.
Front / Low
Front / Middle
Front / High
Side / Low
Side / Middle
Side / High
Back / Low
Back / Middle
Back / High

High never actually shows up in the footage but it would be weird to just have low and middle. I'm guessing High is reserved for flight/aerial combat.

Watch the fight against the first monster and you can see your pretty much on middle ground with it the entire time. Then watch the giant monster and you are on middle ground with it when your in the mech but you are low when on foot. They aren't messing around when it comes to scale with some of the monsters you fight in this.

And the character was doing more damage (~1000) striking the monster from 'Low' (under him), than even what the Mech was doing. (~600)

In your opinion to be fair because it's also possible and likely that people actually liked the game even if you didn't and it is deserving of high praise.

Had a DS, PSP, Wii, 360 and PS3 and thought it was one of the most entertaining games last gen.

Does anyone else think it doesn't look as pretty as they remember? Maybe it's just because so many gifs were posted about it, and those compress away so much detail all you see is the magical glowey bits and think the game must look amazing.

What I mean by this is the lighting and textures look more drab than I recall.

That footage is compressed as all get out. Nobody could make any kind of statement like that based off that mess.

I was actually thinking how pissed the director and programmers of the game must have been watching their game on the live stream. The stream looked like complete ass all the way through.

The environments in Xenoblad are breathtaking and exploring them was really a treat. But, on the flipside, there was a lot of wandering. Not cause you didn't have direction, but cause the environments were just so expansive. It sometimes felt like it took too long to get from one point to another. (Although you had a teleport feature so things were pretty streamlined for the most part.)

With all that said, it still felt like an off-line MMO much like FFXII. (Although with a more present plot, though that's not saying much. It's leaps below gears and saga in that department.) Considering how similar this looks to blade and how they've shown us nothing but combat and wandering over and over, I'm very much on the fence with this title.

Nope, it looks pretty much the same as the E3 trailer. It's just a horrible quality video. We got full, uncompressed, HD videos for the last trailers. We haven't for this one.

That can either mean.....shit is unbalanced as fuck right now or weak points.
weak points hopefully
That showed off some cool tactics. Distract the giant monster with mechs while a single person on foot goes under it and strikes its weak spot.

That's odd, because I owned a 360, PS3 and a good gaming PC as well, and there still weren't any good JRPGs last gen beyond the initial wave of like 2-3 from 2006 - 2009 until Xenoblade arrived.

Yes but I'm not worried, I think the final product will look fantastic. I hope during E3 they show us something more impressive. This seemed like some video put together on short notice.

It looks the same from E3 minus the UI overhaul. The video quality just extra crappy. I would have gone gif crazy by now otherwise.

Yeah, I found this odd. Nintendo yet to upload the video in their channel

Hopefully this being shown off means a 2014 release is possible, but I'm not holding my breath. Never played Xenoblade but this looks like a Day 1 purchase for me.

I liked Xenoblade and I spent most of Gen 7 on handhelds, so I certainly wasn't starving for any JRPG I could get my hands on. Thanks for trying to tell me why I enjoyed one of my favorite games from last gen though.

There seriously should be a seperate thread for all the downers on this one.

This game looks freaking amazing. Love that this more of the same with extras and a facelift. Xenoblade was my favourite JRPG and this looks to continue that legacy.

Loving the smoothed out combat system. Designs are so much better and the scope of this game is immense. Doubt we'd get a similar experience on the other consoles for the obvious haters on here.
