Are you happy with Smash Bros 4's graphics?

WiiU version is pretty bad. There have been quite a few Dolphin Brawl shots and even 3DS shots (like the Lil Mac one with superlight outlines) that I've completely mistaken for the U game. Doesn't help that the art style is apparently untouched, unlike the predecessors.

Does every Nintendo game need to be hyped as "best in graphics?" Maybe if you've only been playing a Wii for the past gen, these games seem a lot more wow-worthy but a lot of gamers have been seeing this graphical quality on PCs /PS360 for a while now.

I will be very surprised if the game is 1080p.

Expecting 720p. Can almost guarantee it will be the case.

EDIT:

I won't believe it until I see it. Many times have games been "1080p" on Wii U before, only to turn out differently.

Uh ... ?

Yeah? Not the subtle animations (hair/expressions). But that's a re-textured model, pretty much.
Re-textured? Are you fucking kidding me?

It is 1080p. I posted direct feed screenshots of resolution 1920x1080 which clearly are not upressed. Sakurai said at E3 that it was 1080. What more do people need?

People are just idiots who don't want to accept obvious fact, don't let it get to you.

You must be blind if you mistook the 3DS game for the Wii U one.
And Wii U Smash is noticeably more colorful and stylized in texturing work than Brawl. Not to mention better models, much better facial animation etc etc...

Who said anything about "best in graphics"?

More than happy with how smash 4 looks. Visually very clean and both the art direction and animations are hugely expressive.
Overall I find it more appealing to look at than games like Injustice/MK, and KI. And far more appealing than PS All Stars(which I played briefly when it came out).

It's an nice upgrade from brawl (I prefer the new look to the noisy textures look in brawl) and 720p/1080p will be great for smash (namely that zoomed out camera).

In all honesty, if you have a quick glance, this shot can put you into a state of thinking it is a Wii U shot, I mean because of the detail on Little Mac, the stage is the exact same as the Wii U stage and backing board is rendering the match on it.

It's a simple mistake, but it does look it at first glance..

I like how the game looks on both platforms. It's less about technical proficiency for me and more about art style. Both are pretty games that make good use of color and that sport some really visually interesting environments. It's clean, and doesn't overwhelm you with unnecessary visual noise. That's all I want.

Well, what also want is for them to tell us what the difference is going to be between the WiiU and 3DS versions. I hope they're not just carbon copies of each other.

Re-textured? Are you fucking kidding me?

No?

Really, the subtle animations are the biggest difference. Otherwise it's higher definition textures of the same models. Will those facial expressions make much of a difference in a game like Smash, outside of quirky screenshots? Maybe in 1080p, and even then I don't know.

It isn't a knock on the game. I just couldn't say I'm 'happy' with the graphics. It looks like a re-textured Brawl. I'm sure it's stunning in motion, though, but I haven't seen 1080p direct feed footage yet.

I don't expect a graphical masterpiece of Smash Bros. As long as its stable, looks good enough, and is a lot of fun, that's what matters to me. From what I've seen, the main improvement here since Brawl is lighting and animations, which add a lot for me. But this is an example of a game I'm more interested in its luxurious amounts of content than looking best of the best. I'd sacrifice some graphic niceties for more and well-balanced and fun content.

But the game hasn't wowed me really. Some nice art direction and it doesn't look bad, but it also doesn't look like some tremendous step-up, but I am happy with them, but then I have been since reveal.

Every previous Smash had completely different art styles, while Smash 4 is basically just a brighter Brawl, to make it line up with Nintendo's other games.

First, I think Nintendo's decision to go for closer art styles in most of their first party games was stupid in the first place. Mario Galaxy was clearly a Mario game in spite of the different lightning and background details from other titles. They didn't need to make them look even closer.

Second, Smash's adaptation to that artstyle was lazy like previously mentioned. Even Melee and Brawl, in spite of being in very close hardware, looked vastly different, so there's no reason they needed to stick with Brawl's art style, but more colorful. Unless this brings some advantage in the end (like a much higher number of characters since they didn't need to be completely redesigned), it's a fairly disappointing look.

Now, obviously, the 3d models were improved and such, but looking at them up close still shows a bunch of imperfections and visible polygons, and, from far away, the difference won't be big anyway. It just seems like a bad choice.

The Wii U version? Sure it looks great. Whether it's 1080/60, I'm not so sure, but as you said, it looks like a cleaner, better version of past iterations, and that's great.

The 3DS version leaves something to be desired. But that's to be expected given the hardware.

What is the point of this thread if people who aren't happy with the graphics are immediately shot down?

It looks amazing.

Being unhappy with the graphics is one thing. Saying the game looks like a Wii or 3DS title is another.

Ok. Someone (not necessarily you) needs to back up this way too common accusation. As far as I can tell, I'd say that Smash 4 and Brawl are as close as Brawl was to Melee.

So Gamecube Specs -> Wii Specs = Wii Specs -> Wii U Specs in terms of expectations?

If you look at what I was responding to you'd realise that it's obvious I was talking about art style.

Ah, I was looking mainly at the bolded part. I thought you were replying to that specifically. All's forgiven.

I'd say that Brawl and Smash 4, comparative to Melee, go in different 'tonal' directions. Brawl goes darker than Melee and U goes lighter than Melee.

It's a bit underwhelming, but if they really are going for 1080p then that would explain it.

It's definitely good enough but in terms of lighting etc. I thought they'd get closer to what Mario Kart looks like which is much more impressive.

I wanna know why some characters (like Mario) have worse textures than Brawl.

Because Sakurai develops each game from the ground up, and basically has a new team every time. I don't see how it's worse, though. Just a different art style.

I very much agree.

Melee Fox is ugly as sin. Looks like a dog face texture stretched on a head model that is way too long

So he looks like a fox.

You'd be hard-pressed to make me believe that the game is built from the ground up. Just compare Marth from Brawl and SSB4, the models look close to identical.

Different team, but not from the ground up.

And, being from a different team, some things will just be different rather than better. Like the art style. It's a different direction.

Not really - especially when you compare it to Mario Kart 8. I'm sure it'll look fine in motion, but I was hoping for more.

I'm surprised how well the 3DS characters look. The Wii U version, however, still has ways to go. To me, just like DKCTP, it looks like they took the Wii version and put it into HD.

Yep. The 3DS version looks so good (well, for a 3DS game) that this game ain't gonna sell a crazy amount of Wii U's like Nintendo/fans are expecting. Are they having online exclusive to Wii U or is the 3DS version fully featured? Portable Smash + online should be huge, even if that tiny crap screen will make it hard to see what the hell is going on.

Confirmed online for both.

wiiu looks great. day1.
any word on the 3D effect on 3ds? is it going to be there?

Not positive, but I'm willing to bet that it is. Kid Icarus Uprising, which was also developed by Sakurai, had excellent 3D.

Plus, this stage wouldn't make sense without it:
