GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - Trailer, Character Vids, and Poster

So excited. Absolutely love the difference in tone compared to the other Marvel movies.

The trailer was kind of flat, though. I think not having any of the other Guardians speak hurt it. That being said, I have full faith in the actual movie itself. Everything is falling into place.

Just saw someone describe the trailer thusly:

"It looks like this is to space what Your Highness was to fantasy."

I don't know if I agree entirely - but I DO see the comparison.

Me too. It has everything going for it, honestly. They even chose two actors to voice the two characters that will be the hardest sell, that will draw in audiences. I feel even if RR or Groot are a little hokey, general audiences will be ok with them because they are Bradly Cooper and Vin Diesel.

I agree. Marvel has some real geniuses behind them. Even their missus are fun enough to watch. They have been able to market some pretty niche comic book characters in some incredible ways over the past few years. Their casting has been spot on from day one. Marvel has made me a fan boy.

I kinda get the sense (both with this AND Star Wars: Rebels) that there's kind of a Firefly influence making itself seen/felt. At least a little bit.

That said, this trailer was basically "Buff Chris Pratt and a bunch of smirking aliens."

It's not great. It's not bad. But it's just a trailer.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of Farscape. The chiseled male lead, the selection of insane alien lifeforms, the "band of outlaws" feeling, the grand galactic scale...

They're sitting on Darkseid for fuck's sake. I mean, we all know Vader and swaths of Star Wars probably don't exist without Darkseid/New Gods. He's a huge deal. Yet he's never been in a film.

And we've already seen Thanos on screen! It's so weird how this is all playing out.

I can't believe we are getting Ant-Man before The Atom. I can't believe we are getting Ant-Man before Wonder Woman.

I can't believe Quicksilver is going to be in TWO movies while WB just sits on The Flash

I just can't. WB might as well just shut DC down at this point.

This is going to get soo0o0o0o0o00o much use.

The comedy was shitty, but the action/set pieces/story seem great. Better than expected, but I just hope they saved the best comedy for the film.

Are the sequels to Infinity Gauntlet worth reading as well?

Starlin gets weaker and weaker over time, but they're certainly still worth reading- just keep in mind that he peaks with Infinity Gauntlet.

at least it isn't his current uniform.

I remember when I first saw concept art for this movie, and being disappointed in the helmet changes. Then I read the Bendis run. I can't wait for the Movie costume to replace his current look.

They do but it's not necessarily just Marvel. The Xmen movies have had this effect lately too.

I guess if you're in a Mrvel based movie you're seen as marketable now?

Only person immune to getting positive post-movie buzz for both Marvel and DC movies is Ryan Reynolds, killer of movie franchises.

I don't know if Gunn is as familiar with Farscape as he is Firefly, considering he's friends with Whedon & Fillion. But I do see where you're comin from.

Rocket Raccoon and Star Lord in movie form Cannot fucking wait. Pratt is a perfect Star Lord.

If this is what the general public are taking away from the trailer, then Marvel need to do another one fast.

It's because of John C. Reilly isn't it?

Comic Book movies at least of the Marvel variety so far have certainly moved up on the totem pole of respectability. I don't think Sci-fi even got to these levels. Marvel is constantly bringing in big names now

I can't speak of the others, but Infinity Crusade just screams "this is a giant crossover event because reasons."

The characters don't even seem impressed, because they've seen it all before. A brainwashed Silver Surfer tells the goddess straight to her face that her power isn't shit compared to the Infinity Gauntlet. Best part is the hero vs hero fights, but there are some oddly brutal choices for squash matches (Hercules vs Rogue, lol).

I love the Marvel movies, but I am not a reader of their comics...

Can someone tell me if GOTG ever team up with the Avengers?

Guardians have a long history with teh Avengers, in fact one of their members steal Antman's yellowjack costume and joins the GOTG.

I'm so excited for this, looks amazing (and I know nothing about the comics except for Rocket Raccoon's existence in MvC3). August release surprised me, for some reason I thought it was coming in October or November. Probably looking forward to this more than Winter Soldier now.

I really don't get this vibe at all from it. Your Highness is/was on a much clearer level of silliness beyond this.

John C. Reilly makes everything better.

Nice trailer. Great sense of humor and a solid introduction to the universe and characters. I can see this being a really popular movie among people not familiar with GotG.

I still can't believe this is a movie before WW

A talking raccoon, a tree, batista drex, Zoe saldana in green and a parks and recreation actor, all playing C list heroes...CAME OUT BEFORE WONDER WOMAN

Hols the L DC/WB. Just hold it.

I can believe a talking raccoon can be a superhero before....*gulp* a woman.

Just the way it is, breh.

Looks colorful and fun, whch is good, but the comedy bits from the trailer didn't really did it for me.
Still looks more fun than the Avengers.

I could see that. Or maybe 'The Fifth Element'? Colorful space oriented sci-fi but with some campy, tongue in cheek humor included. I could see GotG being received similarly -- strong enough BO but somewhat polarizing amongst though who've seen it.

For those who follow HSX, GotG had been dropping until the release of this trailer (but is still fairly strong in the 180s) for whatever that means.

Wishful thinking, but I would love a reference or even a cameo of Beta Ray Bill (or his ship) that would lead into the entire BRB saga as the plot of Thor 3.

I wouldn't imagine anyone involved was inspired by it, but Guardians seems to have that same sense of no-holds-barred sci-fi insanity. That was something I always loved about Farscape; that they were never afraid to have the craziest aliens, the wildest planets and the most insane concepts. If Guardians keeps that up beyond the trailer, I'll be super pleased.

Yup, that's exactly the vibe I'm thinking.

I'd be very, very surprised if the public like this anywhere near much as something like Avengers. Too crazy, not enough present-day New York.

Gotta be said as well, the cast is absolutely amazing in this. Haven't even seen Glenn Close or Lee Pace yet and we've still gotta hear Vin Diesel & Cooper's voices.
