Nope, at least not now. I would hope it hits Amazon or Vudu for rent as I'm not a fan of iTunes. I've noticed at least some movies are seemingly becoming more difficult to find to rent digitally but I guess the incentive today is to make people actually buy them.

This is out on DVD and blu-ray today. I'm looking very forward to seeing it again, picking it up tonight. It's one of my favorite of all the Marvel movies so far.

This movie was pretty terrible. I enjoyed the first Thor movie and I was really looking forward to this one, but it was just awful. The story sucked, the acting sucked, Kat Denning played the most annoying character in a movie since Jar Jar Binks, and Natalie Portman did all of her scenes while asleep in her trailer. What is to like about this movie?

Well, besides Loki and Thor, I suppose. They were both good. Any scene between them successfully woke me up and reminded me that I don't want to jam a screwdriver through my skull to get out of watching the rest of the terrible movie. Everything else about this movie just felt lazy as hell. It wasn't fun. It was only tedious.

Idk if I'd call the movie good, but it's certainly better than the first Thor

Maybe if I watched the first one again I wouldn't like it as much but I remember it being much better. Maybe they're both awful and it was just fun watching some fresh characters for me in the first one. But wow the second one was just so bad.

People give a lot of crap to a movie like Man of Steel, but I think MoS was significantly better than this movie.

I've always said that Natalie Portman is the least convincing scientist who is actually a scientist.

Seriously, she did some grad work in psychology and neuroscience and published two papers.

I understand why they made Jane Foster a physicist but when they made that change they definitely should not have casted Portman in the role. I do think she would have been fine as an EMT or doctor but definitely not some sort of nerdy scientist.

A nurse or EMT would make more sense. There's no reason Thor would be attracted to this girl. Is it supposed to be her human qualities? That are completely removed by making her a scientist? That's she utterly unconvincing at?

I liked this film! More than most of the recent Marvel films, actually.

So... are the nine realms supposed to be in different dimensions or are they just in different star systems? Because the Asgardians being limited to nine solar systems seems a bit low for such advanced beings.

The problem isn't the job she has but the complete lack of effort Portman puts into the role. It feels as if she was persuaded into the first film by Branagh and immediately regretted the decision. She is a talented actress but none of that is on display in either film.

They're dimensions/realms.
But they limit themselves to specific planets? Or are those planets just the anchors for the world tree/whatever technology they use?

Also, the convergence seemed to effect the universe that Midgard was in... Asgard included.

I'm just going to settle with the idea of them being super advanced aliens.

Bought this today and just watched the "All Hail The King" One-Shot and it was awesome!

"All Hail The King" SPOILERS:
The real Ten Rings organization busts Trevor out of prison at the end and tell him the real Mandarin wants to speak with him. So this confirms there is a real Mandarin out there in the cinematic universe.

Also, Sam Rockwell (Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2) makes a cameo in the prison at the end! Was not expecting that and I loved it.

These Marvel One-Shots are awesome and really are a fun treat for the Blu-ray/DVD releases.

Just finished watching.

I suppose it was an okay movie. Lots of cringe worthy cheese especially compared to most Marvel movies but leagues better than boring crap like Man of Steel. The villain could have been a lot better. It felt like there was no real antagonist here unless you include Loki.

Also, Kat Dennings was really cute. She didn't bug me one bit but then again, I think she's very attractive.

What I'm saying is, we have such a stereotyped perspective of how scientists act that her phoning it in (basically being herself... and she is a scientist) is unconvincing. I mean, what if she was acting exactly how she acts in the lab? Sure, it would still be phoning it in, but the problem goes deeper than that. The masses have decided that that isn't real science because it wasn't nerdy enough, just like it's only real science if something explodes or there's a neon green liquid involved.

Now, I'm not defending her acting, here. Because she was phoning it in. Slightly less for Thor 2 than the first one, but even the non-scientist stuff didn't have much effort. But I have to say, I started viewing the movies differently once I found that she actually had a science degree and academic credibility.

This is what it is in the comics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asgard_(comics)#The_Nine_Worlds

It appears to be basically the same thing in the MCU. We saw Jotunheim was a planet in first movie, and the Dark Elves home world in this one - I assume those are in realms separate from Asgard. We also know there are more than nine planets with intelligent life in the 616 Marvel universe, in the same galaxy as Earth, so if they're rolling with the same structure for the movies, the realms are essentially different dimensions, different planes of existence. The dimensions would be connected through the world tree, which is what Thor is traveling through when he uses the Bifrost. I don't know that the planets themselves matter all that much, but rather where the transit system is available.

I've actually wondered this myself. The whole "nine realms" doesn't really gel with cosmic Marvel, unless those realms are simply anchor points.

EDIT: Ah, I see it's explained above. Interesting.

Malekith completely tanked as a villain when the queen whooped his ass.

Kurse was fuckin' raw though, got knee deep in Thor's ass.

He tanked as a villain before that when Odin's dad pushed his shit in. He still managed to rank up with Thor though, and that's what matters. Thor is not as strong as his parents.

Saw this last night. Good dumb fun.

A LOT more comedy than expected, and at random moments, but it was appreciated.

Natalie Portman was easily the worst part.

I can't believe it's anything to do with her choice of director or contractual obligations or any thing, because she's a professional actress. It's her job to act. She just didn't do a great job.

Scene overlooking water had shades of attack of the clones, lol.

Apparently from the extras on the disk:

Jaime Alexander as Sif deserves the entire next movie, they should kill Jane off for sure. Jaime actually reads Journey into Mystery (she likes comics) and Beta Ray Bill is one of her favorite characters. Plus she's way more beautiful than Portman, my opinion. Thor x Sif forever.

I really liked the movie, even though Chris Eccleston was ripped off by the script, though it was a paycheck for him I guess haha. The Ninth Doctor should have come to stop Malekith lol. Hopefully in the future they do Ragnarok and use Amora The Enchantress with Loki as Tom Hiddleston suggested.

Is it just me who feels like Thor has never gotten a real great scene in the cinematic universe? He is supposed to be on Hulks level but he has never real had the chance to show he can do anything that Iron Man or Captain America couldn't have. Hopefully they give him a fairly big part in taking down Ultron.

I dunno, I'd call the bit when he turned the empire state building into a super conductor and nuked half the chitauri fleet as a pretty big moment for him power level wise.

I think a large part of Thor being so successful is that Hemsworth is literally as close to perfect a Thor as one could ever dream of having. But you're right, he hasn't had anything especially brilliant to do so far.

Can't agree with that. He fought on even footing with Hulk and he was pretty damn powerful during the fight in New York.

I have a bigger problem with Captain America. I thought he was pretty useless in the grand scheme of things.

Felt the same way. I loved the first one, but this one just disappeared from my memory.

I blame the villain, who was incredibly boring and disposable.

I didn't even realize it was the Dr. Who guy until like 5 minutes ago.

What was even his character's motive? I have no idea. Dark elves, brah. They mad.

I heard there was Dark Elf scenes cut in favor of last minute Loki shoots.

Does anyone think that Marvel will ever have Extended Editions or Directors Cuts that tell the whole story, or are they spread throughout the deleted scenes sections?

I feel the opposite actually. I remember this one decently, but the first movie slipped out of my memory so easily. He lands in like, Arizona? And then he fights the Destroyer at some point and gets his hammer back?

I'm unsure about spoiler rules in here as I don't post in these threads often but spoilered anyway:

The only things that really irk me about this movie are the lead in to the final battle and what Jane does during. The calculation of the location is just dumb and pulled from thin air, as are the magic spikes which can suddenly cause dimensional anomalies instead of just detecting them. They even say it. It ruins the movie for me, just terrible.

I didn't catch it at the cinema but I watched it on Blu-Ray yesterday and thought it was really good. I definitely preferred it to Thor but the Dark Elves were weak villains.

If it makes you feel any better I didn't realize Chuck was Fandral until two days after I watched it. I had to put the disc back in and watch the first fight scene again to really believe it after I read it somewhere online.

I think they were a victim of Loki. They were fine - nice design and very menacing - but were clearly an after-thought.

Just saw it. I liked it more than I thought I would. Surprising how often that happens after reading the whiny internet.

Yeah, not good, and not sure why. She's a fine actress. Getting a role in these superhero movies is obviously a good gig, but sometimes I wonder how much they really care.

There are plenty of people who don't read comics but they still "get" comics. Sometimes I think some people just don't get comics. I don't know if Portman reads comics or did any research at all, but this was weak. If they're going to have that role remain a significant part of future movies, this is one time I would support a casting change.
