Thor: The Dark World |OT|

So I watched it again tonight and still really like it. One thing I noticed on second viewing was something people assumed was a plot hole in
why Odin didn't mention to Thor that the Aether was indestructible. After watching it again, it's set up that the Aether being buried was a secret and Asgardian history says that it was destroyed. Even Odin believed it was destroyed which is why he thought it was impossible that Jane would have it in her and why he thought all the Dark Elves were dead. For all he knows it isn't indestructible.

Went to see this movie yesterday.

When everyone is saying each other names ... wtf the girl calls the hammer flying by ?

I have the impression she said
"nyan cat"
or something O.o

It's a callback to the first film.
Thor mentions Mjolnir and she immediately refers to it as "Mew Mew" in attempts to pronounce it herself.

"Mewmew" from the first movie!

Edit: Beaten like a spoiled child.

While a good movie, good humour and all, my comic book fan soul cannot but be dissapointed in Odin.

Oh and I forgot : GET KILLED (or is it?, Hopkins said it was enough...) OFFSCREEN. Goddamnit. It took Sutur in the comics...

There is absolutely no evidence that this is what happened. We'll have to wait for the next Thor/Avengers film to know for sure.

This is more of a problem with your own expectations...sounds like this kind of movie just isn't for you.

I don't know. I had only seen the first trailer for this film ages ago and nothing ever since. I didn't know what to expect, and I certainly didn't base any expectations on the first film given how different the two directors for the respective films are.

While this movie suffers from some terrible choices, what offended me the most was just how incredibly lazy the script was. What are the chances that Natalie Portman of all human beings steps into the portal that transports her to the ether? And what's the likelihood that the Elf world cave that she steps into leads her directly back to that abandoned complex? It's as if the writers couldn't be bothered to find an even half decent solution to justify the different set pieces.

The only interesting parts were when Loki was onscreen and even Hiddleston couldn't manage to salvage it. Although some of his parts were genuinely funny.

Speaking of a bad script, did Thor's plan in the Elf world make any sense? If they were always going to give Portman away so that Elf dude could suck the ether out of her, wouldn't it have made sense to do so in Asgard where the Asgardians could beat him down? And what the fuck was Thor thinking about handing over the ether so that he could attack it with electricity through Mjolnir? I mean, I get that he's meant to be brash, but he's never established as a complete fucking moron.

Watched the movie last week it was Star Wars in my lord of the rings yuck, overall better movie then the first, better then man of steel, worse then iron man 3 & captain America.

Long live Loki , wish Jane foster died it would of made for a better movie, tragic lose to forge our hero.

wut?

In any case, no way was this better than MoS. In fact, throughout the major fight scenes, all I kept thinking about was just how fucking good MoS looked in comparison. Nor was there any substance to this film either. It was shallow as fuck and not even a decent brainless popcorn flick.

Watched it over the weekend, felt pretty meh about it. Thor is no doubt my favourite Avengers-related Marvel film, although I'm sure I'm in a small minority. I liked the Shakespearean feeling Branagh gave the first film, and the score by Patrick Doyle. Portman was just OK, but I wish they had simply remained friends (their relationship seems really forced). The 170M budget of the second is more apparent than the 150M of the first, though.

Will watch for Loki

The Lady Sif paid a visit to Midgard and met with patients and staff at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

Okay wtf was with
the last couple of scenes and the post-credit scene? Did they run out of budget? The post-credit one looks like it was paying homage to an old Ecclestone's Doctor Who set with how low budget it looked.

I think it looked cheap too, but most likely because it looked more like video/60fps than the regular 24fps/film.

That's just my guess though. It was DEFINITELY shot using something different, just not sure what.

I noticed this too, something about it made it feel like a TV show on a very big screen rather than a movie - would love a videophile to explain why!

Two things I learned from this film:

1) Asgard is basically Coruscant.

2) Loki is basically Aizen

Really enjoyed it, much better and more frequent action than the first. And Kat Dennings being Kat Dennings actually worked here for the comic relief. I still don't buy she and Jane as friends though, and certainly not coworkers.

Don't understand how Thor got curb-stomped by the Kursed guy, but was throwing down blow for blow with the fully powered bad guy. If Kursed was that strong, why not give HIM the Aether?

Saw it last Friday. I don't know, I thought this movie was better than the first. But I felt it was kinda bad, I don't like how
the dark elves just wanted to make the world dark because they like it that way
. I mean, that's a stupid reason for everything in the movie to happen.
Natalie Portman did absolutely nothing until the end where she had sticks that saved the day with next to no explanation. The whole thing with Selvig is never explained why he was running around naked. I know he said "I had a god in my head", but still doesn't explain much

Whole movie didn't feel like it advanced any overall plot in the Marvel universe very much except for the final scene, which tells me we could've done without the entire movie and the Aether. Loved Loki and Lady Sif as always. Loved Anthony Hopkins, ending was cool.
I feel like Loki hid him away, not killed him.

My favorite part was that pointless scene that was just there to show Chris Hemsworth's abs.

Also, something that just came to my attention,
How does Loki have Odin's wife's powers when he's not actually their child?

I actually enjoyed this movie which is more than i can say for most marvel movies (including the first thor). Had a ton of flaws but eh was a decent popcorn flick. Would have been a lot worse without Loki i'll say that. I think i enjoyed it more because i was coming off the back of the hunger games.

Loved it. Wife & sister-in-law did, too. I thought the 3D was good, not that I wanted to watch it in 3D but it was the only way to see it in IMAX.

Really enjoyed it. In fact, I went ahead and preordered the bluray and ($230) Hot Toys Thor figure.

Sorry for the bump, but I don't think it is time for a lttp thread yet.

Finally got around to watching it before it left cinemas. I was very happily surprised. After the last few big adventure movies I went and saw sucked (IM3, ST:ID, PacRim), I had very low expections, but this was surprisingly good.

Not a deep movie, but a solidly well made adventure movie without too much plot stupidity that makes no sense. Well, the lack of acting ability and mounds of make up on Natalie Portman made no sense, but at least the movie maintained internal consistency.

The visual design was amazingly well done, and the scenes with Hiddleston and Hemsworth were actually pretty well written.

So yeah, very happily surprised that Hollywood hasn't totally forgotten how to do a 'big dumb popcorn movie' that isn't totally about turning your brain off and ignoring the continuity of the story.

She didn't want to do Thor 2 because the director got changed but she was contractually bound to do it. Hence how well she acted.

Is this true? No wonder I kept thinking to myself during the whole movie as to why she was acting like a complete scrub and that Thor definitely needs to hook up with Lady Sif.

Fuck Natalie Portman, dragged the film down badly.

Damn, Loki will never die. Not that it's a bad thing, but there was really no reason to bring him back, except for the riots it would've caused.

Man is unkillable

This was the biggest plot hole for me in Thor 2. Why would you go for Portman when Sif is the obviously better choice?

That whole relationship between Hemsworth and Portman was so Thorced.

...Thor basically ends up with Sif in the comics but he does have empathy for Jane for some time. At first its not so much a problem because Sif is more concentrated on being a warrior born but later on Odin and i think Loki basically orchestrate a fight between sif and jane...we all know who wins jane leaves. Since theres no Donald Blake persona it is kinda plot hole ish i guess.

Finally got to see this in the theater. Film was good, but it is really Loki who makes this movie worthwhile.
Also, those implosion-grenades were kinda overpowered, why bother punching/thunder-grilling someone when you can just use that?
