PAL Charts - Week 8, 2014

Did you really just post vg(bullshit) charts

I have no idea. I don't read ******** and it came from Andreas Pessino. That's why I posted in the thread asking and didn't start a new thread.

edit: Just checked their site. Yes, it appears to be from them. Carry on.

Good news, bad news. Bad news first.

Bad news: I do not have time for you guys until tonight.

Good news: I have platforms.

Until then:

UK
Wii U Retail Top 10 January 2014
  1. Super Mario 3D World
  2. New Super Luigi U
  3. New Super Mario Bros. U
  4. Nintendoland
  5. Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  6. Mario and Sonic: Sochi Olympics
  7. Wii Party U
  8. Rayman Legends
  9. Pikmin 3
  10. LEGO City Undercover

Are you still going to share the data.

ps4 quickly taking over, xb1 stronger than the charts seem to give credit for although feb seems to be a bigger difference.

Despite 3ds and wiiu being up total nintendo revenue is down and total nintendo revenue is lower than any of the other single home console platforms.

Seem to remember some claiming last year that the wii/ds falls weren't affecting things as much anymore. I guess that might start finally being true next year

WiiU numbers are still pathetically low (below NDS and Wii). It looks like the 360 software numbers are still untouchable. The XBone numbers are only 30% behind the PS4 numbers, the Bone attach rate must be quite a bit higher than PS4's.

The MCV month of January 2014 appears to include several days from Dec. 2013. This may "spike" the data quite a bit since these are holiday shopping days.

Surprising the PS4/XBone numbers are as close. The weekly charts paint a different picture it seemed and stuff like TR selling 2:1.

I'm surprised Wii U and even 3DS is up on last year. But they are still low and there's no turn around for the platforms.

PS3 isn't down all that much considering the new platforms and how well the transitions seem to have gone.

Hmm, 360 and PS3 seemingly holding up reasonably well despite successor launches, collectively down only 27%. The Xbox One alone can make up for that decline.

Comparatively, from what I can infer, I think the PS3 and 360 collectively saw a greater than 50% decline Y/Y in January NPD, which is terrible even considering the extra week in 2013.

Question though, jvm, (and you may have answered this before, I forget) is this a 4 week month against a 4 week month for the UK data?

This was 4-week vs 4-week.

Last year, the first week of January 2013 sales was 30 December 2012 - 5 January 2013.

This year, the first week of January 2014 sales was 29 December 2013 - 4 January 2014.

Jesus, Vita sales dropped 8k even with all the insane bundling and price drops over the past few months. I can only imagine how much worse the figure would have been without those insane bundles, etc.

You do realize it is software sales right. Not that it matters the system isn't doing well anyways

You are looking at PAL charts. So there is no numbers, but it seem that someone has workout with math from PR wording show most time that PAL charts are deadly small margins. e.g. Sometime it might only 1000 sale from 1st and 20th.
Even 2:1 ratio but too low to make up the different because exclusive titles are enough to catch up.

Also. The different PS4-XBO is quite similar to 360-PS3

this is software, NPD was hardware though

Software gap between the PS3 and the 360 was roughly 45% - 48% in favor of 360

Software gap between the PS4 and the XB1 was roughly 32% in favor of PS4

Hardware gap between the PS4 and the XB1 was roughly 45% in favor of PS4 as of Dec. 31st

It's interesting that the XB1 seems to have a noticeably stronger software attach rate although I imagine that's not enough to keep MS happy with their sales in the UK. There has been a 70%+ shift in software sales PS/XB wise from last gen to this gen. That's got to be worrying

Between the free to play games and PS+ games, I'm not surprised people are buying fewer PS4 games than Xbox One games.

I think the Attach rate could in part be due to the f2p/PS+ games available on the PS4 which simply aren't counted in these figures. For instance FF14 seems to be quite popular on my Facebook with UK gamers.

EDIT: Beaten.

I think it's been noted before, but part of the discrepancy is probably due to the nature of the different consumers buying each system at launch.

Someone who is willing and able to spend the cost of entry for an XB1 may also be more willing to spend on software. Although I don't know if the same held true at the beginning of last gen.

Can't believe it's still charting after so much time and with servers going down in two months…

Because it's a dead platform in Western markets.
I'm not really sure why anyone is remotely surprised at this stage when Vita underperforms or is down year over year or its software and hardware sales are abysmal.
That it's still being stocked at all is more surprising, and I do wonder when Sony is going to discontinue it internally.

I think some people thought all the PS4's in the wild would see remote play be a catalyst for Vita sales.

We don't know that PSV sales aren't being juiced by PS4 sales -- it may simply be that even with that help, PSV sales are still worse.

It may be having some effect, but really I've never gotten the idea of remote or off-TV play being particularly compelling. Realistically people aren't going to go buy a $200 (or whatever the UK price) accessory in large numbers.

I am somewhat curious how the stripped down Vita TV will fare - pricewise it will be more palatable, and it addresses imo a more common needs ie wanting a second media/games box for another TV. Although I'm still not expecting any wonders.

It's still outselling the Wii U :/
And it has great software attachment.
