Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

What about a Mother villain?

Either of these dudes would be fun.

In a perfect world, Tales would rep Namco.

Milla <3 or any other character I don't care.

Tales = Popular in Japan; Smash needs more JP only reps or give JP some love.

The only third party that matters atm.

You know it would be Lloyd, lol

(maybe Kratos)

No more heroes bombed in japan, it was actually a success in the west, and is known as a cult classic (as are many games on the wii)
Third-parties in Smash Bros. shouldn't be "cult classics." The logic that applies to Nintendo characters doesn't extend to guests. They're in their own class -- there are only a few of them, and they're supposed to be big deals. I can think of dozens of third-party characters more meaningful and recognizable than Travis Touchdown.

I should probably say im not arguing that travis should be in smahs nor am I saying that I want him in, I was just giving a fun fact lol

Captain Syrup (to a degree)

To a degree? To a degree? Dude, Captain Syrup is one of the most sinister villains in the entire Nintendo universe. Don't let her sex or cutesy appearance fool you.

She has plundered many places, including the Mushroom Kingdom (in Wario Land 1, the main treasure is a statue of Peach), and has had her own castle, but also taken over Wario's castle and his treasures.

But that's not even the biggest part. The biggest part is her role in Shake It:
She finds the artifact that transports someone into the Shake Dimension and learns about the bottomless coin bag, as well as the crisis with the Shake King. So instead of going in herself, she plants the artifact into Wario's place to make him go save the Shake Dimension. She sells Wario stuff during his adventures and then, after the crisis is resolved, takes the bottomless coin bag because the Merfles promised to give it to her. So basically, she went out of her way to have Wario do all the hard work AND took the treasure he found in the game as well.

She's certainly significantly worse than many other villains. Probably one of the most ruthless beings in the wider Mario universe, too. Bowser, K. Rool and Kamek ain't got nothing on Captain Syrup.

The logic that applies to Nintendo characters doesn't extend to guests.

Extends even more.

Third party characters on smash should be SPECIAL, should be GLORIOUS, should be something really deserving of a non Nintendo slot.

If you are not a gaming icon, FORGET.

I would love to see SF's Ryu on smash just for the LOLs of the fighting community ... but Megaman is already in so 2 capcom characters would not feel special.

This is smash bros, not PSASBR =P

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. The Sonic, Metal Gear, and Mega Man series have each sold at least 30 million copies. The cutoff for a truly deserving third-party character should be around there. The guests need to be iconic enough to warrant "invading" a Nintendo game.

Tiki > "Robin" because Robin is called MyUnit in Japan and because the character is depicted as robed and hooded. They're meant to represent you as you play through their eyes. You're Robin.

Villager is different because that's the design used in actual promo work.
This is wrong.

Robin is called ルフレ (Rufure) in Japan, not My Unit. Rufure is his/her default name in Japanese, like Robin is in English. The feature of the customizable character is called "My Unit" in Japanese as it is called the "Avatar" in English, but that's not the actual name of the character. The name is chosen by you, if the default name isn't used, similar to other characters like Link, Ness, etc.

Villager in Smash Bros. is depicted as the default look of the player character in Animal Crossing: City Folk. There are a variety of different looks for the character, just like there are a variety of different looks for Robin in Fire Emblem Awakening, and many different varieties of the character have been used in promotional material, not just the default look that appears in Smash Bros.

If Robin is in the game, they'll probably just use the default look of the character (which is also used in promotional material, like on the official website which I'll link to below) like they did with Villager.

I'm just waiting on someone on here to post a list of characters whose franchise has reached or exceeded that 30million copies sold cap Ryce just mentioned ;P

Wikipedia has a list, but it’s a little out of date. I’ve removed first-party (Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft) series and licensed series (FIFA/Madden/Star Wars/etc.):

The Sims
Grand Theft Auto
Need for Speed
Tetris
Call of Duty
Final Fantasy
Sonic the Hedgehog
Assassin’s Creed
The Oregon Trail
Dragon Quest
Battlefield
Resident Evil
Crash Bandicoot
Bejeweled
Just Dance
Pac-Man
Lineage
Tekken
Guitar Hero
Tap Tap
Tomb Raider
Street Fighter
Minecraft
Metal Gear
Mortal Kombat
Medal of Honor
Mega Man

In nearly every forum, English or JPN, I've seen the avatar referred as MU or a version of it rather than by their default name.

in Fire Emblem, the character is hooded for the most part both in cutscenes and in art outside the game. The only Fire Emblem game that really acknowledges the different avatars on the box art and on the other art is Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyū where you clearly see the male and female avatars. When Fire Emblem Awakening was introduced, they provided a whole set of possible avatars, not just the male and female "defaults". In the game they even use the exact silhouettes. Sure they are hooded, but they're shown more so than in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

I understand that the characters have names, but in regards to the avatar they're referred to Avatar or MyUnit. I'm sorry if I didn't clarify that.

I'm not trying to argue nor am I against having the avatar, but I would much rather see an established character who's contributed to the series in some fashion as we see in Tiki, Anna, Micaiah, or any other character.

Jesus christ , not much to work with other than pacman and MAYBE Dragon Quest. That last one is so doubtful though.

And here is my Top 3 most wanted characters that have ZERO chance ! =D

1- Captain N
megGMuV.jpg

Why he would be awesome -
He was smash bros before smash bros. Even had megaman as a companion !

Why he has zero chances -
American 80's cartoon

2-Black Mage Chocobo
O79m2P9.jpg

Why it would be awesome -
Represents FF series, is a cute mascot and is a needed magic user for the characters.

Why he has zero chances -
Square relationship with Nintendo is not that good, I even doubt snake would be in if Pac is in ... so FIVE 3rd party characters are praticaly impossible

3-Tie between Diskun/Sakapon
dDB3CtJ.jpg

YQGQJL1.jpg

Why they would be awesome -
One is the Famicon Disk System mascot and the other is the main character of the first Nintendo Fighting game.

Why they have zero chances -
They are SO OBSCURE that they make ROB and Game & Watch looks like hollywood stars

There are a few (small few) great things about Other M. A few designs here and there. Ideas. Her suit, being one.

It was overall a disappointing game, though.

I'm not crazy about Sukapon's design but didn't Sakurai mention him being under consideration but ultimately decided not to add him because he was a pure fighter, so not unique enough for Smash? If so, then with Little Mac in that could either lessen or increase Sukapon's chances since Mac is technically a pure fighter with his boxing.

I always thought a tetris stage would be cool but difficult to pull off due to the unpredictability of it, plus you might be doing more platforming than actual fighting. maybe as a event match or something.

If Microsoft got involved, I wouldn't waste a slot on a character as generic as John-117. No, Microsoft has only one character I feel is worth a damn for Smash Bros.:

banjo_kazooie.png

:(

Right on. I would kill to have Banjo-Kazooie in Smash. Probably the only third-party "character" (after Mega Man and Sonic) I feel would be appropriate for a spot in Smash, besides maybe Simon Belmont... and he's a huge "maybe."

Stop picking at the Rare wounds.

Too niche, should’ve been left as a trophy. They should be using other companies’ characters before ones like this

Yes, where is Chihaya Kisaragi?

I’m not as mad as I am dumbfounded. These character choices are such a joke

I don't get it.

Are they even taking these character rosters seriously?

Of course they are. The next character reveal will be Baby Daisy riding Doshin The Giant.

No one knows this guy

It is almost like you live in a bubble bobble and don't realize that Nintendo exists outside of Japan.

Rude yet proper.

Who gains anything from including characters like this nobody wants?

Thank you for speaking for the Smash Bros. community. All future decisions will depend on your holy stamp of approval.

Basically, if you wanna know who this is, you gotta buy Smash Bros.?

Punch-Out!! Wii's Japanese sales salute you.

I’m honestly disappointed. I holding on to hope that you’ll actually pick some popular characters, Sakurai

Hope is slippery to hold.

All these characters are crap

I didn't greet Roy this way.

Punch-Out is all about the unique opponents; why would you include the bland main character?

Japan wants Bald Bull

At first I was like, “Why would they go with Punch-Out now, of all times?” But then I remembered that Donkey Kong was a guest in Punch-Out for the Wii… Is that a connection? Yesterday was Donkey Kong’s release day and all

Eh, at least this person knows Punch-Out!! exists.

Piston Honda still loves you Japan.

The Namco rep should be a Baten Kaitos character timed with the announcement of a sequel/prequel. A man can dream, can't he?

Was just looking into Air dashing in MVC3 and though I get the general idea, I find it hard to imagine being a mechanic in Sm4sh.

Eh, it's double jumping but horizontally restricted. Some characters in Smash do have an "air dash" special as a mechanic to help differentiate them.
