EA got Online Passes and Season Passes confused.
EA hasn't done online passes for a year at least. So, this is BS PR speak.
EA got Online Passes and Season Passes confused.
Question for those who don't like season passes:
What is your ideal "post-launch content delivery structure" (or PLCDS, if you will) for this game specifically?
As long as your answer isn't "all DLC should be free" I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Announce DLC 1-2 weeks post-launch. Sell it individually, perhaps in packs. After all DLC is available, sell in one combined set for a discounted price for those who were on the fence.
If Season Passes are a must, a clear description of what the content will be-- along with anticipated landing dates for each-- should be given before an announcement is made.
I like what Killzone Shadow Fall and a lot of PC games do in that all maps are free so that the userbase isn't split up and little things like new skins, voice packs, taunts etc. are paid dlc.

I hate this mentality that devs (publishers?) have. "Oh yeah we can't finish the game in time so we'll release a half baked game and add stuff later". Why don't you just release the game when it's finished instead?
So explain this to me. Did you not know there weren't specific details of each piece of future DLC before you bought it? You still have not described deception at all.

I don't understand paying for content that doesn't exist. You don't pay someone to do job before they do it as the incentive goes out the window.
A fair and honest DLC strategy for the consumer would be, buy one DLC pack, get the second cheaper. Buy two DLC packs get the third even cheaper. A bite sized season pass were you can judge the quality of the content before buying and still get the same discount. The current offer is just laughing in your face.

So micro-transactions but only for cosmetic content?I like what Killzone Shadow Fall and a lot of PC games do in that all maps are free so that the userbase isn't split up and little things like new skins, voice packs, taunts etc. are paid dlc.
What if you could preorder the game for $80 and get all future DLC for free, or pay $60 and pay whatever the DLC costs at a later date? Because the $29.99-39.99 price point is usually being hit in large retailer sales well before the first map pack drops, I don't see why they just don't offer an $80 deluxe edition and let people decide.
No, it was an ea dude on twitter getting mixed up.
Yeah that's my main concern with any content based dlc. I think season passes are an effective method when done right but I prefer the way I replied to before. So micro-transactions but only for cosmetic content?
And your major issue with season passes is not that you feel cheated by the method, but with how it segregates the player base?

Offer a season pass without concrete details and people complain about being deceived. Offer a season pass with meticulous future planning and people accuse you of holding content back to steal money.
I'm not complaining I just prefer the method I stated. That seems really weird. I would rather pay for content that has something in it, not just some extra audio, taunts etc. Paying for cosmetic stuff is what F2P games are usually about. Its seems very odd for people to complain about Season Pass DLC and then laud free maps (which is great) only to produce and nickel & dime cosmetic stuff
I payed a lot for very little. And how the hell you interpreted that as displeasure from the gameplay itself? So you were tricked because...you didn't like it.

Bf4 Pt2. Cant wait til the servers are broke and dont work for anyone again.
It amazes me how short termed memory gamers are. EA won't be getting a dime from me until I see what NHL 15 looks like.

he works at EA. a company that hasn't done online passes for over a year. there's nothing to get mixed up about - it's not even something to mention.

I agree with you. Although, I think I am more accepting of a content roadmap. Like you mentioned, if a clear schedule of content is outlined and a description of each is provided I am totally okay with that. I think Dice has done a good job with BF3/BF4. I have friends that have been very happy with the season pass format and I have also read posts from people online who have had positive experiences with it. I think when you are big fan of the game, the season pass is a good value.Announce DLC 1-2 weeks post-launch. Sell it individually, perhaps in packs. Didn't expansion packs divide the player base in a similar way? I agree though. I play BF4 occasionally and do not have any of the new maps. It seems as though a large portion of servers have switched over to China Rising. I can't think of a good solution to this that both fixes this for players and doesn't disrupt the dev's/pub's business model.I always liked the expansion pack way, but I'm an old fart. It's the selling of stuff before it's done that annoys me the most anyway. Especially when it almost invariably results in complete stinker DLC being released to fulfill the quota.
edit: maps for everyone is a good thing, like someone mentioned. My interest in BF4 was killed because they split the playerbase very early and all my favorite servers went China Rising.
You cant wait for a game to be broken for people? Why?

That means buying the first DLC at full price and then buying the Season Pass at a reduced price that includes the DLC you just purchased. Silly to buy it twice. If you like the main game enough to put some hours into it, the DLC would be a certain purchase right?
What did I say that contradicts this?

It never ends.People never learn
That's a good idea actually. Let's say they have 4 maps per release. Use those 4 maps plus 1 of the unused maps from the multiplayer campaign to create a mini-campaign that expands on the story/lore. So you get maps and some additional story. At some point a split is inevitable, you just have to make every release a justifiable package IMO. For Titanfall it could be an entirely new MP campaign in another part of the galaxy, or something like that.
Really no one should ever buy a season pass until at least the first piece of content is out. Then you can make a decision based on whether you're still playing the game and what is included in that first pack to either just buy that or take a, now somewhat lower, risk on buying the season pass.

+1I've noticed a sizable portion of GAF over time has become so goddamn whiny. Give it a rest. If you don't want the season pass, don't buy it. If you don't like the game, don't buy it. Vote with your wallet. Don't continuously bitch abouta game being MP only if you have no interest in MP at all. Also, I suppose the folks who pour hundreds and thousands of hours into multiplayer don't get their moneys worth either, right? Total bullshit.
Seriously. Sit down. It's getting old
The KZ team originally planned for their maps to be free.Yeah this is a good idea but in my opinion Killzone Shadow Fall is not fun I think if the game was better and had more players online they would charge for maps.

But yea, with the player numbers they have, it has to be. Not enough would buy an expansion pack in that game to make splitting up the player base worthwhile.
Meh he missed read it and thought they meant online pass.
It happens.
I do it on forums sometimes.
Pretty much this. There are so many on here now that feel the need to be ragging on games they won't be buying and try to put others down for liking it. The game isn't even out and people are claiming it's a rip off and over hyped, it's so tiring to read the arguments after a while. Do these people really have nothing better to do than bitch and moan about things they dislike, it's pathetic.
Wotta for example.
