NO I don't wanna hear it

If you like how smooth this gif looks (once it's all loaded up)

Then you have nothing to worry about.

I don't know, the game certainly looks next-gen to me in motion. Just from watching the video I could tell it was mostly a step above what PS3 and 360 are capable of.

Don't be too quick to write off a game by looking at still screenshots. Some games just don't look that great when they're not in motion, not to mention compression sometimes messes with visuals that otherwise look great on an actual TV.

Yeah, Jett went a bit FUD with the OP (makes sense with his old "Mr Negativity" tag) instead of just posting the video where the GIF was from. Remember that most of the game's footage has been shown at night time. Technically, the downgrade is there, but not in terms of the game systems or interactions like there has been for other E3 vertical slice->game releases. I'll always be excited about mantling over cars :D

Still looks like a PS3/360 game. Not impressive for next-gen

What specific "atmospheric effects" are gone? Using a broad term like that is the easy way out. Please be more specific.

"Environments look poor"... a similar statement. How do they look poor in comparison to the 2013 footage? Can you be more specific?
I'm comparing initial 2013 footage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annota...&feature=iv&src_vid=1DgFrYU1xNA&v=htJyuVRa0-c
To this latest footage here: http://www.everyeye.it/video/ps4/watch-dogs_videoanteprima_13243

Well, from the initial reveal footage, there is an amazing wind effect that interacts with the environment that appears to missing in all the footage from that Italian site's video. The depth of field effects in addition to the general blur effects are noticeably worse as well.

The shine/reflections and other details on the sidewalk and streets appear to be gone. Bricked areas used to look like actual bricks, but now they look like flat textures (either from the lighting changes or the lowered detail). The density of floating particles seems to be diminished if not removed entirely (i think i did see a can and a leaf blow at one point, but much less than from the 2013 footage).

The daytime lighting is a huge downgrade. The new footage looks flat and overly bright, whereas the initial footage went for a realistic environmental lighting that looked amazing. There are still some gas effects coming from the sewers, but most of the other wind effects seem to be gone.

The streets appear to be much less densely detailed as well with less debris and general objects in the environment.

I'm going to paraphrase a previous post of mine...

This morning, I arrived at work, I opened a browser and started the day. One of the first things I saw was that there was a new Watch Dogs video. So I went and watched it. Almost immediately I thought "OK, so this is obviously the PS3/360 version. Odd that they'd use that for marketing, but whatever. I'm getting the PS4 version so no worries." Then I came here and went into the original thread about the "leaked trailer" and read post after post that, supposedly, it had been officially confirmed that it was actually the PS4 version. And yeah, I admit it. That's when I scream "BULL... FUCKING... SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!", turned into the Hulk, and put my fist through my monitor.

Exactly! And Ubisoft only have themselves to blame for this, is not on any of us as some were saying. We only got hyped by what we were shown & iirc the Aiden chase footage where he chases on foot then into a car during one trailer was supposed to be in game, so going from those expectations to what we saw today with no clear message as to what's what.

Ubisoft sort your shit out!

The lighting is the most crushing downgrade out of everything. Good lighting can make up for so much. The game just looks borderline cartoonish now.

BTW i'm less worried about the graphics and more about the gameplay. Everytime they show the game it looks more and more boring.

OK, so... am I supposed to be impressed by that? By the technical prowess in displaying that many blades of grass, maybe? It doesn't look bad, obviously, but there's just nothing about it that wows me. Not my taste in eye candy I guess. Whereas 2012 and 2013 W_D footage got my motor running.

How about this?

Geez! If it's really PS4 footage.. then I'm a bit conflicted on whether or not I should get this game. I still wonder if the delay it received last year was because the last gen (PS3 and 360) versions were suffering too many problems. I think the team should have stick to current gen (PC,PS4, Xbox One). This cross-gen bullshit has seriously hampered the game's potential and profitability.

I still hope that Assassins Creed Current Gen exclusive (PC, PS4, Xbox One) is true. I am just sickened about how this turned out.

I am still wondering if the gameplay footage that has been rolling on today is actual PS4 footage. The Denmark twit didn't help. I would not be surprised if this was last gen's extreme limit visually and technically. Because if in the delay they had to re-do the modeling to fit in all versions (last and current gens), just to have them release on the same day, then it is complete bullocks.

Okay, I'll be fair to the game. I feel kinda responsible for starting this as I was the first to post a screenshot of the car. This is how the footage looks a few seconds earlier.

ibtAnGuwing9ii.gif

This section is pretty much on par with what they showed off last year (the car section). Just when they reach that bridge section and the spotlight where things take a turn for the worst.

Note: btw, this doesn't mean that I'm saying the game looks on par with the reveal.

I was going to join the hate parade based on the OP, but this looks pretty damn good.

I don't believe it. I can easily imagine PS Denmark not knowing what it was from. I'll wait for the devs themselves to confirm or deny

I think it is definitely from PS4. Things like the level of detail in the grass etc when he's walking through the city during the daytime, the IQ, and the texture of his coat makes it pretty clear to me. The lighting took a huge hit compared to the reveal, but the textures and whatnot look the same to me.

Great post, I just watched both of them basically side-to-side and have come to similar conclusions.
First of all, that wind/physics effect isn't in the 2013 footage, either, so it isn't fair to knock this 2014 trailer for not having it. It's a big loss either way, that effect looked great.

The daytime lighting has me smh. This new footage looks cartoonified compared to the 2013 reel. It's like a bright new super-colorful palette that makes no sense to me other than it being a weak focus-tested attempt to make the game look more like GTA. What are they thinking? It looks both like an art style change and a downgrade technically.

The night time scenes look about the same 2014/2013.

There's a lot more shadows being casted on the MC in the 2013 footage as well.

This game needs that delay and not just due to repetitiveness. It's a hot mess and lacks consistency throughout.

Yeah, what are they doing?

A small gif always looks better..
Wot m8
The gif in the OP is the same size

Those look really good!

I suppose I have to admit, it surely has a lot to do with my personal bias. I loved the whole psuedo-medieval fantasy motif back when I was hardcore into AD&D... which was from like 1980 to 1984. That style just hasn't done anything for me since then, I left it behind and never looked back. I just can't relate to being "WOW!"-ed by that stuff.

Ok enough is enough. The game was downgraded, but compressed JPEG screenshots taken form compressed flash videos wont help the discussion. This is really a laughable behavior. If you really want to judge graphical quality, plz download the current videos.

Can't say I trust anyone at Ubisoft doing the driving any justice. It just does not look good at all.

I mean I know they got Driver people working on it I think? But that game was cool because of the story the gameplay was pretty meh.

Nah man, Driver was awesome in multiplayer as well. I'd completely forgotten about that, but if that team is on this it actually gives me more confidence in the finished product.

Your JPEG screenshots are 1680x1050, so I imagine it wouldn't look 1080p.

Listen ubisoft, you're game is a joke. It's like a 360 game. San andreas has a better city. You need to learn how to make good graphixx

Screenshots from the trailer

Those are all from cinematics. Just sayin'

And yes, its the best looking parts of the video. Like they should be.

Hmm never played the multiplayer. I enjoyed the driving but I honestly can't play a racer that's not 60 FPS for a long period of time. Still was a pretty cool game though.

I might be wrong about them doing this game, now that I think about it, it's probably The Crew.

Looks like a current gen up-port.

Watch_Dogs reveal looked like a trully next gen game.

I'm not usually a guy to yell "downgrade", but my thoughts on Watch_Dogs so far have been that it looked truly next-gen at the initial reveal, pretty darn good when it was shown running on PS4, and now it looks really cross-gen, a lot like AC4.

It still looks nice, but it's a shame it's been pared back so much.

A 1500 post thread because of single terrible OP with a misleading gif that looked bad because of weird blown-out lighting. The other gifs posted in this thread are worlds apart.

Wow.

GAF makes me sad sometimes.

Edit: Make that an exactly 1500 post thread. Shot in the dark, lolz.

Edit 2: Forgot the difference between pages and posts, arg...

Yeah, the gameplay is more concerning for me, than graphics. I was able to handle it for Black Flag because of the world and piracy, but it is not looking fun here. I don't think I'm going to buy it, but I hope the people who do enjoy their time with it, I'm sure quite a few will like how it plays!
