Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

Guy who accused Nirolak and gaf mods of selling out, he was sure that Ubisoft was gonna stream "amazing" gameplay to prove GAF wrong about the downgrade comments, then started actively begging Ubisoft to stream gameplay after awhile, became increasingly frustrated when it never happened, and had a mini-meltdown.

I remember watching that in 2012 and thinking that graphics quality would be the baseline for next-gen console games. Oh how wrong I was...

Pure win!

Glad I crept back to check any updates.

The twitch stream was horrible. The Cretive Director seemed pretty nervous about the questions although everything was scripted and planed. Even the Moderator felt uncomfortable. Everything they said was basically useless PR talk but their body language was disturbingly honest. They didn't expect the shitstorm because they live in a perfect universe where every expressed opinion from a journalist is automatically matching every expressed opinion from a consumer. But this kind of universe doesn't exist in the real world. They didn't match the graphical expectations for this game and they know it.

Of course the game will look good but for some people it wont look just good enough because from now on they will always remember the graphics shown 2012/2013 at E3 and it is ubisofts fault.

In the end i am sure it will be a great game
or at least it had enough development time to become a great game.

I'd rather the game had the atmosphere of the one I was hyped for 2 years ago but that's basically a pipe dream at this point.

I hope its not a pipe dream. I'm with you on this. The game that was shown is not what we saw. But the game is still not out. Granted you really can't do that much with the time they got left... Look all i'm trying to say is wait for the thing to actually get in your hands before destroying it or wait for the review to come out that are saying what we are saying now.

The fact that we are not hearing more news about the game and how the question was dodged in the stream, his has me very worried about the state of the game and might just be confirming our fears about the "downgrade"

- Twitch Stream was promised so Ubi could answer questions
- When they discussed the graphics complaint they didn't answer the question, just side stepped it saying "trust the previews" and "ps4 graphics look good". Never answered whether they were downgraded
- All questions seemed to have been pre screened/fake, and were fairly boring questions so they could talk for 20 minutes over absolutely nothing.
- Moondizzle was a user who kept insulting NeoGAF. He called us NintendoGAF, MicrosoftGAF, and said we were all just jealous it looked good on ps4 or some shit. Point is he later suggested he was a member who was banned. We were all laughing at the stuff he posted since it basically revolved around him insulting GAF and him pleading Ubi to show gameplay so GAF could be proven wrong
-He called Nirolak looser idiot who was bought by MS. So then mods started posting money gifs and money related comments.

Poor mods here at Gaf - so hard to resist all that Nintendo and Microsoft $$$

jk - obviously

Do we have any proper videos running at native with no compression instead of a heavily compressed lo-res gif to go off of?

I'm sure it'll be a game. With a story. And a world. And stuff happening. Whether it's a great game? After all this, I expect aggregate scores of low 80's at the highest. Probably around mid 70's. But hey if I'm proven wrong all to them, I'll give it a rent. But my money? No no no.

Yeah, I would also appreciate some higher detailed comparisons... I suck at making stuff like that so I rely on GAFWizards to make it happen.

Yep. Redboxing or GameFlying this noise is probably the only option I would feel comfortable with at this point.

Ubisoft has managed to do a great job embarrassing themselves. Again.

Really?

The E3 demo is much more detailed and rich in details and enviroments...

I see more foliage, yes. The lighting, shadows, depth-of-field effects, specular highlighting, ambient occlusion, per-object motion blur and more are all present. The E3 build looks richer, and they clearly replaced some foliage with grass in the retail build, but I don't think it's anything like the difference we see here with Watch_Dogs.

Did we ever get an answer why the game doesn't look like it's 1080P? The high bitrate Gamersyde vid is very, very soft. Did Ubi's media mess up and show the PS360 again?

I'm getting an awful feeling we might be getting a "every game displays in 1080P" game here. They did clearly state 1080P30.... but there's no way the vid/caps are 1080P native.

Microsoft shills.

There's all sorts of things you could accuse Gaf of being a shill for if you were bitter. But MICROSOFT?

Downgraded from the first reveal, yes. But not since the actual gameplay demos the year later.

Ubi should really start showing reveals that are within reasonable expectation.

I still think the game will look very good for a crossgen open world game on PS4

To be honest the graphic in the last trailer remind me too much to splinter cell black list; this is why not convince me at all. I don't know, maybe was better to ubi not show anything until the final build, I'm completely unable to judge the graphic of this game now, I can't say if I'm too much disappointed but not seems next generation at all to me.

I think Watch Dogs could've looked as good as it initially did on PS4 but they had to balance it because otherwise it wouldn't be possible to port it to last-gens or something like that. They obviously can't just make all the features utilize the extra ram of PS4 when PS3 barely has any, so how would they port it over and make it run well otherwise?

Why would you or anyone else have not thought this? Considering all of the demos that were floating around at that time (Samaritan, Agni's Philosophy, etc.) the Watch_Dogs demo was actually the least impressive although it still looked really good... at the time at least.

That doesn't include the scenes from the GIF in the OP and various others. Haven't seen the b-roll released in full publicly yet. :(

The lightning definitely doesn't look anywhere close to as good as the E3 trailer.

I find it curious that they opted out of showing the environment while it was raining for this footage - I feel that would have made the downgrade even more apparent.

I definitely get all of the complaints and criticisms but I don't know where some of the apparently serious "pre-order canceled" posts are coming from. It's not like Ubisoft isn't showing you what to expect months before you purchase it.

Still buying - still hyped to hack Chicago - sad it isn't as pretty as E3.

Haha. Assuming that I were indeed shilling with that, I can't imagine Nintendo will be pleased with their return on investment there when the February NPDs are released and we see the influence of a mod "promoting" Tropical Freeze.

Even EatChildren was promoting Donkey Kong at one point. I mean if this kind of exposure doesn't prove without a shred of a doubt just how effective shilling is (especially when it is done by authoritys) nothing will.

This game is just bad looking. The buildings remind me of the spiderman game on ps vita.

I doubt it. Far Cry 3 runs on ps360 too (well, shitty) but on pc it's fabulous.

They were shown one thing and they got another. I can't say I blame anyone for cancelling their pre-order. Atmopshere is important to an open world game and they kind of blew it with this target render vs. current build thing.

We should have expected this from Ubisoft but hype kind of pulled the wool over everyone's eyes, including mine. Oh well.

We were probably too subtle. No wonder people don't want my services. I need to consult with Shillolak and figure out what his secret is.

Oh god that looks horrible, well at least Ps360 level. No way can that be current gen, just no way.

But they haven't gotten anything - no money has exchanged hands at this point right?

I think the outrage is misplaced.

Far Cry 3's graphics aren't really the problem. It's boring, chore-heavy do this get that craft this collect that gameplay aka one of the big problems among many Ubisoft open world games.

The latest trailer we're seeing is likely what's it's going to look like when it ships (two months is not a lot of time to get it looking more like 2012 version). That is what people are likely to get unless someone on the devteam says otherwise.

And actually the outrage is properly placed on typical Ubisoft bullshot getting people's goats again.

Are Ubisoft just showing footage where the graphics just aren't complete yet or actually showing off a mixture of previous gen and current gen?

Producers release early footage to gauge opinion even if the graphics are not yet there then as the release date approaches new footage is released that all of a sudden look substantially better. We've seen this with Drive Club where Evolution really deliver as the release date approaches. I'm wondering if we're seeing the same here?

This is the 2nd Ubisoft title I've ordered since Far Cry (l don't really like anything else they produce) but this game still interest me.

I wonder how dense Chicago is. Can we go into a lot of buildings? Does all the foliage move like Tomb Raider? How are the particle effects?

I doubt it. Probably the same as GTA V, "a lot of interiors" yet only a handful accessible. The most recent trailer already showed a lot of flat texture buildings (and so do the screenshots released).

did they acknownledge the downgrade .gif ?

Yes. That's roughly what they said in a Twitch Q&A earlier today:

"This asset (the trailer) has been created to convey the context of the game. It's something the fans wanted. In terms of graphic quality, I invite anyone to read the impressions of the journalist and it's pretty positive. We're in debug mode and we're fixing little things, the graphics are at no risk at all. I don't know why anyone thinks this." - approximate quote from the interview just now.
