Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

Hm. I dunno, the visuals in the new trailer look about the same as the trailer from last year (not the 2012 reveal obviously).

I dunno, they don't look bad. It just better be smooth as hell when I play though.

Edit: Man, I really hope they don't cock up the story for this game like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. This is in the same space as Person of Interest, and I fucking love Person of Interest. There's so much potential for narrative with these kinda themes (paranoia, surveillance, vengeance).

I stumbled upon Person of Interest after the E3 reveal of Watchdogs, amazing show!

Was there *anything* worthwhile offered up from the stream?

If I was Ubi I'd focus on the gameplay and what makes Watch_Dogs truly unique in that department. They sure as hell aren't going to win a downgrade argument.

For their sake I hope the game's performance is locked down and smooth and that the gameplay hook and variety is there. If so they can certainly weather the storm, though they do deserve to get smacked around for straight up bullshitting people about what to expect from their games.

Personally, I gained the knowledge of two Game of Throne's characters eventual deaths, learned there are no trans women in FragDolls or whatever, and was reminded how horrible the internet can be.

In other words, fuck this stream. It's not that I'm angry about any given part of it, ranging from the spoilers to how completely void of substance the stream itself was - not at all. It's just that it was a mind boggling waste of time.

So, no. This is literally the worst PR event I have witnessed in my entire life.

The 2014 video definitely looks way better than the 2012 footage. It's night and day.

Where's my money?

But I'm not seeing any evidence that it doesn't look like that. There is no rain in the most recent trailer, and barely any gameplay. The only other recent gameplay footage is on the Italian site, and that is a completely different time of day and weather condition, so that's no evidence either.

Rain or no rain, the environment wouldn't have such stark differences in regard to their impact visually. The vegetation would still move, objects blowing along the streets, dust kicking up et al. There is NONE of that in any of the new footage because it no longer exists.

Yup the life of the city is gone, it's stale looking as hell now

Pfft, I know, what a terrible joke of a game
that I still love so very, very much for some reason.

You're not alone. For its time it was pretty impressive imo. Having the option to either throw or roll your grenades in particular was pretty cool.

I got to watch GoT season three for the very first time just two weeks ago - as that was the very first time those episodes were made available for purchase on the streaming services.

So consider that fact all you Game of Thrones gif-making assholes out there who spoiled shit for me so damn long ago. You know who you are. Assholes.

And now back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Was looking forward to a weekend off. Now I need to edit a last minute Jimquisition to replace Monday's planned one.

Fuckin' Ubisoft.

Very obvious downgrades in lighting, geometry, textures, and animation.

What the fuck happened?

I think this is what happens when you do cross gen development with the new gen build as the lead instead of the last gen build. You go too far, paint yourself into a corner, and then are forced to make big sacrifices in order to close the gap to the point where the old gen and new gen builds can at least be in the same ballpark.

In short, cross gen is bullshit that needs to stop existing.

This is why I have great respect for devs that don't use vertical slices to show off their games. Devs like Evolution Studios have been great in this regard. The game they show off when the game goes gold blows the demo iterations of gameplay out of the water, as it should be.

I know they use CGI and offline rendered in-engine sequences in their trailers. That's another thing altogether. But at least they don't try to bullshit you with their demos.

Or they just promised shit they couldn't deliver, as usually happens.

They should have saved some time and licensed Steelport in hindsight.

BTW, did we ever get an answer about the silenced weapons?

OR... you're looking at a different weather condition, where there wasn't enough wind to blow things around. 'It no longer exists'... did you just make that up?

They probably cut this stuff years ago, and are wondering why we're only now getting upset about it. They've been looking at this version for years possibly.

still going with this?

it must frustrate you to see everyone making the logical presumption, but you have to understand that this reaction, even if it's an incorrect presumption, is ENTIRELY UBISOFT'S CREATION.

and that they could have already stopped it happening with a few seconds of footage, or a straight answer in the Q+A.

I mean, their PR MIGHT be that inept, it's within the realm of plausibility, but anyone presuming the effects are all gone is forming a logical conclusion.

Would it be unreasonable at this point to ask for a summary of the downgradeaton? I can't seem to get the .gif in the OP to fully load. Thanks!

Ah, I sympathize. The Game of Thrones memes/GIFs/etc. never affected me personally, but I always cringed when I saw them. It made me appreciate the book readers for being so restrained all this time.

But yeah, that's enough of that.

Fuckin' Ubisoft.

Can you please go into what a monstrosity of a PR event this was? Has there ever been a worse Q&A in the history of Q&As? The insane jumble of voices at the beginning were a bigger revelation than anything the Ubisoft guys said, with the way they revealed how fragile one's sense of reality is. But besides that, Twitch is clearly a terrible avenue for such things, at least when handled the way it was, and they completely butchered their handling of the one question that mattered.

Such a thing as what transpired today can never be allowed to happen again.

Killzone and Infamous indicate to me that what was shown in 2012 and 2013 should have been fairly close to what they could manage on PS4. A lot closer than what I see in this latest footage.

OK, tiger. Whatever you say.
yep. it's not like we haven't seen games with that level of graphics on the system. maybe it was too much to expect a multiplatform game to get there, but our expectations were set by what Ubisoft showed, and other titles have shown they were plausible expectations to have.
