Is Hidamari all random gag humor like Nichijou or Yuyushiki, or does it actually have like an ongoing story?

its got random jokes like those shows because it is also based on 4 panel comic strip, but there is a specific 2 year timeline so there are threads that run throughout the entire show. each episode is usually two separate stories which are given specific dates, and interestingly the first 3 series were mostly shown in non-chronological order.

As I remember it, there's a joke in episode 13 that references stuff in episode 12.

And episode 13 got the season ending thing too. But I guess that matters less with the OVAs right after it.
