Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I'm guessing they'll save Pac Man for E3. Next month will be Palutena or Mii.
This is my guess, too.

I could see them saving both Mii and Pac-Man for E3, though. Whenever they do reveal Mii, however, I believe we'll finally be getting some details about the customization features that have been hinted at previously. For that reason it's possible that they may be saving Mii until closer to release, but who knows.

I saw a trailer for that Pac Man show when I went to see the Lego Movie. It was even worse than I realised. I certainly hope if we get Pac Man he doesn't use the same voice.

I'm honestly only expecting to see Palutena, Pac-Man, and Mii revealed before the game comes out. The rest of the newcomers (2-4 of them) would be saved as unlockables.

"Old" - Villager (initial reveal), Little Mac, Palutena
"New" - Wii Fit Trainer (initial reveal), Rosalina & Luma, Mii
Guest - Mega Man (initial reveal), Pac-Man

That's also two previously unrepresented IPs per group: Animal Crossing and Punch-Out!!, Wii Fit and Mii, and Mega Man and Pac-Man.

I wonder what their work process for trophies is. For Melee we heard they did a lot of it at the end but I think it is safe to say we are not at the final stretch just yet for this game. Maybe they are used as a cool down. After working hard on a stage or character take it easy by making a few trophies.

These take no effort at all, the new trophy models are mostly touched up model rips. Look at Saria for example.

EDIT: Read earlier that people didn't know who ROB was when Brawl was released. What the fuck? If you played the NES you should know who ROB is I would think.

Hence why I suggested it could be a nice little cool down activity. Though it isn't just model rips. Someone has to write that blurb of text to go with each one.

That actually sound right to me. I would like to see Takamaru as starter character but I'm not surprised if they might make him secret character, along with Mewtwo. Only if Takamaru make in the game.

I would be really surprised if Takamaru wasn't a hidden character. He's perfectly suited for a surprise unlockable character. If there was a new Murasame Castle game coming out, then maybe I'd expect him to be revealed prerelease, but as it is, no. I think he'll definitely be a hidden character.

I had a horrible thought earlier about this.

No matter what happens, if Ridley isn't announced as playable, he can become an eternal conspiracy unless someone extracts all the game data or something. :P

Potential future scenarios:

* Ridley isn't announced? Well of course, he's saved as a secret character to appeal to the hardcore fanbase.

* Sakurai says "Ridley isn't playable"? Well of course that's just what he would say if Ridley WAS playable and he didn't want you to KNOW!

* Ridley is an assist trophy? Well, it's not like playable characters can't also be assist trophies. That's just there to throw you off.

* Ridley can be unlocked but is super secret, becoming part of internet urban legend. You just have to talk to Professor Oak, and move the truck behind the S.S. Anne, etc.

EDIT: Read earlier that people didn't know who ROB was when Brawl was released. What the fuck? If you played the NES you should know who ROB is I would think.

When I first played Smash 64 I had no idea who:

-Ness
-Samus
-Kirby
-Captain Falcon

were. For Melee:

-GW
-Marth
-Roy
-Ice Climbers

Obviously I knew everyone by the time Brawl came around, but the Smash series has had a huge influence on the games I've exposed to myself since. Smash 64 made me want to play Kirby and F-Zero games =)

I still think, and am willing to avatar bet on or whatever if someone wishes to do so, that there will be NO unlockable characters. You don't reveal characters like Luigi, Toon Link, Lucario, Rosalina, WFT - all perfect unlockable candidates in their own ways - this early without there being a reason for it.

I'm loving the 'Big' Mac trophy, & I hope this means we are getting a metric ton of obscure trophies.

Not to rain on your proverbial parade...
But, I'm 90% sure that the bet wasn't whether or not Paultena is a newcomer (because I personally think she is a shoe-in), but it is about the leak being fake or not (which I believe it is. Hence my avatar.).

If not...
Then I would feel foolish for picking the
wrong
team.

EDIT:

Thanks for clearing that up, BGBW.

I was a little bit worried for a minute there.

No, palutena's reveal will prove weather the actual leak was fake, not that she gets confirmed at all, i know the terms of our bet

I had no idea who half the characters were in Smash. I was a Sony kid, so I thought Bowser was this guy;

Veterans should be there from the start, newcomers unlockable. Simple :)

Newcomers are one of the biggest incentives for buying a new Smash Bros., so locking every single one of them away doesn't make any sense. I think I used newcomers in my first handful of Melee and Brawl matches.

Locking away your prime new content is a terrible idea. It also makes it harder for reviews, previews, game stores, demos, etc to show off that new content. But unlocking old characters is lame, too.

Hence, the best solution: have everything available from day 1, to everybody.

You know this is going to lead into me showing off how little I knew of Nintendo when I was younger. When Smash 64 came out:

- I had no idea who the fuck Link was. It wouldn't be until Windwaker that I'd try a Zelda game because every Zelda game before was always packaged in a solid gold box with no art and I was the 9 or 10 year old who would pass the series up because "holy shit Banjo Kazooie looks cool/STAR. FOX. SON./"There's a fucking Megaman game for the N64?!"

- Somehow I knew enough about Samus (that she was a "girl in a robot suit") despite missing the SNES generation completely. My sister used to jokingly refer to her up B as a screw you up attack before we found out that it was canonically called the screw attack.

- I thought Ness was like Mike Jones' little brother until I read his little blurb in the characters section. For about the first year we had the game, he was the hardest character to initially unlock because he would FUCK me up something fierce.

Somehow also knew enough about samus, I dont think I knew that she was a girl tho, but I knew somehow that a samus existed before then, well samus was known as metroid, but still.

I'm in risky mood so I'm tempted to take the bet with you.

I didn't find out Samus was a girl until a friend of mine showed me Metroid Prime. Stopped playing as her for a while b/c I was stupid back then

I think I found out samus was a girl when I completed her in arcade mode on the congratulations, then it kinda shows it sorta kinda vaguely, and if memory serves she had like red hair for some reason.

I thought Kirby was a Pokémon.

I also remember when my friend unlocked Ness. I wondered who the hell he was, and my friend told me he was actually from Smash Bros., lol.

I found out Samus was a girl thanks to Smash 64. Recall that whenever Pikachu electrocuted someone, their skeleton would flash for a second? Samus' was decidedly ladylike.

Good show. Hopefully you can remember we are doing this, because I'm sure I'll forget. Let's play ball.

I'm going to take the bet for sure. I will put your name and your bet condition on my note. Clean avatar for two week sound good?

Edited: To clarifying that I'm betting for unlockable characters to be in the game. Right?

Me and my buds were all 19 at the time when Smash came out and we all had grew up on Nintendo games. When we unlocked him were are were wondering who the big headed boy in the cap was.

When I first got Melee the only characters I recognized were Mario, Yoshi, and Pikachu, lol. I didn't care about video games at that point but it's thanks to Melee I developed an interest in them and looked up/played the games the unknowns came from. Good times.

Baseless predictions:

April Direct - Snake (non-cinematic trailer like Sonic)
June Direct/E3 - Pac-Man
August Direct - Palutena
September Dedicated Smash Bros. Direct - Mii
October - game releases
