Games you remember, names you don't

I saw it on RPS at one point, I don't know if it was released yet or not..

You are an alien (a very alien alien, you look like blue seaweeds IIRC?) that gets captured by humans and trapped in an underground research facility. You break out of your containment and now you need to get out of it. It's a sidescrolling platform puzzler with self cloning mechanics and a retro look..

I remember loving it when I saw the first trailer but for the life of me I can't find anything on it or even its name..

Help would be appreciated GAF. I want to watch and buy this game :)

EDIT: I believe it was mainly a PC game..
 
Still can't figure out what this educational game about animals I had back in 95 was. All I remember was it had a space frog with a pun name. "Tad Pole" or something like that. Had this one section where you could print out colorbook pictures and one of them was a hedgehog with stuff on it's spines. Wish I could remember more about it.

I played a game on an MSX platform (I think) years ago that combined two different perspectives - but I'm not sure about one of the two. I think it had a JRPG style world map where you navigated from location to location, but switched to a side-scrolling, Castlevania-style walk-from-left-to-right look when you entered dungeons. I remember it being rather graphic - at one point you visit a town that's been plundered and there's townpeople hanging from crosses or burning (or both, can't recall exactly).

The platforming/sidescrolling levels where combat focussed, with magic available too. The hero definitely but also some other parts of the game had a bit Arabian/Alladin influences.

Edit: thinking about I did some more digging, turns out it's called Exile. And reading up on it, these are exactly the wonky type of games from the late 80s/early 90s that I miss. I mean, I don't get to play time-travelling, smoking Syrian assassins that heal themselves with LSD and peyote anymore.

I played a PC game back in the 90s called Lunicus. On the back of the box and included on the disc was a game that was basically like a hovercraft or jumping mech or something. It was probably a nothing title, but i would love to remember the name so my brain doesnt implode. LOL

It seems Cyberflix Inc. (the developers of Lunicus) made a hovercraft game called Jump Raven, that's probably it.

Shareware era DOS platformer, side-scroller, but had some limited Metroid-like elements. I believe there were a few abilities you could, or keys or something, that would let you backtrack to old areas and get further in the game.

You started the game at the gates of a castle and returned to the castle at the end. I believe the first area was a forest, and the second area was a series of bridges at a seaside or something. There was no levels in the traditional sense; it was one conuous gameworld, though mostly side-scrolling.

Oh, and in case anyone guesses it, it's not Elfland, but there were some similarities in its design.
 
Another shareware-era DOS game. Missile Command type game; you controlled a stationary bunker at the bottom of the screen and used its turret to shoot down bombs and missiles. It was a short and easy game; the only thing that stood out at it is that, at the end of the game, a pizza van drives up to the bunker, and a little guy gets out and a digitized voice sample says "Pizza!"

For some reason I just started thinking about some rather old PC RPG I got and never finished cause it was boring and buggy as hell. All I remember was that it had a troll-skull (or something like that) on the boxart, and it was a 3rd Person Action RPG (so kinda like the Souls series but stupid). I always feel like it was called Dungeon Keeper, so I guess either "Keeper" or "Dungeon" were in the title, maybe even both.

Well you're confusing two games, Dungeon Keeper is the game with the troll demon skull on the cover, but it's a Theme Hospital game basically.

No, I think it was PC exklusive but I'm not sure about that. Must have come out between 2004 and 2007 cause I played it in my old home. God dammit, I'm so close to remembering the name now.

Nah, I know Dungeon Keeper ;) It's one of my favourite games of all time.
 
It's a longshot, but I'll try.
It's an NES game,where the first level is side scrolling. Then you enter some cave and the game changes to top view(like in zelda\NES RPGS).
That's about all that i remember, except that the cave had a pool of water with some sea monster in it, and i think your character had a hat like Indiana Jones.
I wish i could remember more than that.

Aside from the hat thing, this sounds similar to Rygar.

Take a look here and see if it looks familiar. Great game, although a bit unintuitive in places.
 
Hey guys,

There was a game, I used to have and play waaaay back...

It was something like Game and Watch, a platformer if I remember correctly, you control the character starting from the bottom moving your way up to top screen, jumping.

I can't find it :( tried to search here and there...

All "Game and watch" games are basic LCD, the one I remember was more sophisticated.
 
Can you explain in what way the device you're recalling was more sophisticated? I assume you're still talking about a device dedicated to playing just a single game, like a Game and Watch?

Also, got anything more on how the gameplay of what you're recalling breaks down?

If I remember correctly, it was pixelated (I think?)

And yes, it was 1 game only, dual-screens, you control a character by moving and jumping on platforms, you make your way up to the top screen.

It was a platformer (Mario) kind of game, you need to reach from point A to B to complete a level.

I'll be really impressed if anyone can help me out with this. I was reading a preview for a GBA game about 13, 14 years ago. From what I remember the basic premise was something like this,

The world has been overrun by some kind of monsters, and the game takes place entirely on a train. The train is attacked and taken over by these monsters and the idea is for you to fight and puzzle your way through the train so you can take back control of it. Puzzling was supposed to be a big part of this game. I think one screenshot had a scene of a train car filled with boxes to push, something like Zelda or Boktai. That, or I read about that kind of puzzle and imagined the scene. I also think the game was isometric and it was probably Japanese.

I'm not even sure if this game came out. It was a very early preview and I never heard anything else about it. I don't know what the magazine was but it had the earliest information for Kingdom Hearts I remember reading. It didn't have anything on KH other than an announcement that it was going to happen and it had a picture of Cloud with his KH1 outfit.

That's literally all I have on this game. Any ideas what it could possibly be? It stuck with me all these years because the premise was so interesting to me when I read it back then.

Also, this is my first post. Take a mental picture and frame it in your mind. :D

Not sure I'd even recognize it if I saw it, but I remember loving a tabletop soccer arcade game when I lived in Greece around 1995-1997. It could very well have been a much older game though. Does anyone know the names of some that I can look up?

I remember seeing an old gameplay video of what looked like an arcade game or it might have been on 16bit / 32 bit consoles.

Anyway it was an arcade RPG with a viewpoint like Entrian Odyssey or Phantasy Star's battle sequence and showed your character as an outline possibly green like Punch out, also it was realtime gameplay like a non side scrolling Sunset Riders.

Any Ideas? Or did I dream it up lol
 
I have one.

It was an SRpg on PS2. It had a unique art style, and someone who worked on FFT worked on it I believe. Aside from that the game was pretty mediocre. I don't remember the story at all but I believed classes were dictated by what weapon you had equiped.

Stella Deus? It had a pretty unique look and Hitoshi Sakamoto, who writes kickass music and did the music for FFT, did the soundtrack.

Now if I can just figure out what this one arcade 3d polygon shoot em up I played in arcade was. Still not sure if it was Raystorm or whatever that game is called. I remember a wireframe background and giant mech enemies at least.
 
Looking for the name of a 90s arcade game I used to see in theater arcades. I usually associated it somewhat with the game The Ocean Hunter just because they both were enormous cabinets from my recollection. The game, I believe, involved piloting a hot air balloon and/or a helicycle type contraption. I forget if the goal of the game was simply a distance thing with trying to get through levels and avoid obstacles or if there were certain missions that you had to perform.

The 3D shmup might be Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth. It's an N64 game but there's also an arcade port. There are 2 min and 5 min modes in a kind of a VR, Tron-like environment, some giant mechs in there as well.

Could be Ray Crisis as well.
 
Somebody told me about a game I don't seem to recognize. Apparently it featured the playable character saving someone from vampires. It may have been a coop game and the characters were able to ride on each other's back somehow (which is probably the essential thing here). They weren't sure about the platform, but they saw the game being played in early '00s. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I suppose it's a sixth gen game, some kind of 3D platfomer maybe? The piggyback mechanic kinda sounds familiar but I don't specifically remember something like the described game. I'm wondering if it isn't Maximo or its sequel, although I don't remember if it had two player support.
 
I was trying to think of some when I read the thread title. a few come to mind.

a game on the snes, it was a 3d racing game. i always remember being in a red formula 1 type car, all of the tracks were grey and were kind of maze like. i think there were loops, cant remember for sure.

there was a ps1 game, cant remember much about it. it was a horror game, third person actiony, thats all i could say apart from that it had a really heavy metal soundtrack that really stood out. i think you were fighting monsters and stuff in an victoian style setting.

I'll go with Hard Drivin' for the first and Nightmare Creatures for the second. The first could possibly be Stunt Race FX? And the latter could probably be a billion other games.

I'm probably wrong on both counts. But the red car reminded me of Top Gear. And for the PS1 game, the victorian style instantly made me think of Koudelka.
 
I've been trying to remember a Genesis game that the "Bad game gifts" thread made me think of.
It was for the Genesis, you played as a cartoony airplane, your main weapon was a boxing glove that came out of the front of the plane, and you collected coins that came out of enemies that you could spend in shops to get other weapons. It was an early to mid Genesis title and I think maybe it was two player?

There's a game I've always been looking for but never found. It was for SNES. It was a side scroller and you basically piloted a mech. At some points in the game you could see little humans running around in your path. I remember it was fun as fuck, don't have a name though.
