This is a stupid question but I am just going to double check. I need a Japanese boot disc in order to use a Japenese gameboy player right? Even though gameboy was not region locked.

You need a boot disc, but which one depends on your Gamecube, not the Game Boy Player.

So, uh, when did Pokemon Box get stupid?

I have a sealed one on my shelf that's been eating shit since the day it was bought at the Pokemon Center in NY.

It's not even a game. I'm thinking I could part with this.

So, my first post at GAF. Two weeks ago I saw an ad on Craigslist for a Gamecube with 8 games and 2 controllers for $40. I thought, "what the hell, I know I missed out on some good games, so why not just jump in?" I was a dedicated xbot, you see. So the guy shows up and he says that he found 4 other games that he'd toss in. Sweetness! For $40 I got:

- Platinum Gamecube
- Plantinum and orange controllers
- Metroid Prime
- Wave Race: Blue Storm
- Rayman Arena
- Soul Calibur II
- Resident Evil 0
- Resident Evil 4
- Pikmin 2
- Sims 2 (later found out that the case had FF Crystal Chronicles in it)
- F-Zero GX
- Aggressive Inline
- SSX on Tour
- Bomberman Generation

All but Wave Race (missing instructions) and Aggressive Inline (generic case and no instructions) were complete.

Later that week another guy was selling all his GC games, of which all were complete and pristine condition. For $75 I got:

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Resident Evil
StarFox Adventures
Star Wars: Rogue Leader
Star Wars: Rebel Strike
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball 2
Viewtiful Joe

Now the question is where do I even start? I've thrown in Mario Sunshine and have collected about 8 shines already, but any other suggestions on what I absolutely have to play right now? I'm a bit overwhelmed by my new collection.

Amazing haul for that price. Start with Resident Evil 4, it's as must play as a game can get. Metroid Prime next.

Enjoy!

Are there any Aussie gaffers in this thread? I heard Nintendo Australia sells GC component cables, would really appreciate it if someone could help me get a pair (I'm based in the UK).

Hey guys,

I'm a small time collector from Hong Kong, and I think this thread is just awesome ! (even though it took months for my account to be approved lol)

I've been loving the mighty Cube since the day I bought it at ToysRUs, well, long story short, here's my collection so far:

still have a long long way to go...
Mega Man X Collection, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Killer7, Donkey Konga 3, Doshin the Giant... etc.

Quick look would tell me you need Pac Man Vs. too. Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, XIII, Timesplitters, etc.

If possible I'd honestly get PoP on Xbox. To me it seems he's going for the games that run best on gamecube. (although Tony Hawk Proskater is the exception?)

I don't see Pokemon Box or Bomberman generation there though. Also: No viewtiful Joe? =O

I actually have Pac Man Vs., it comes along with R: Racing Evolution(JP ver) for free, of course I'd be happy if I can find a copy of the US ver, and add it to my collection :)

Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, XIII, Timesplitters <-- got the xbox version :)

Well if we're going exclusives go with Pokemon Box, Ultimste Muscle, Cubivore, Go Go Hypergrind, Ikaruga, and Pokemon XD. You're close!!

Holymoly, what do you use to protect your Japanese games (link?)? I have tried to find some sleeves, but can't seem to find them in the right size.

I heard it was quite hard to find a copy of the Pokemon Box US ver
ya I know I don't have a single Bomberman game in my collection, didn't happen to find one sadly :(
Joe? look again, I got them all lol (2 US + 1 JP)

Nice collection, holymoly. I can see we have a lot of similar tastes. :)

On another note, I almost pulled the trigger on a Panasonic Q...

The guy have it complete, with the box, only the controller is missing and everything seems to be in really good shape, he's selling it for $200 and I know that's a killer deal. Though I already have two Gamecubes...I'm really thinking hard on this one.

Woke up, saw this thread, bought a GC on eBay for 30 bucks. Complete with controller and composite. Blak, da001 or whatever. Good deal?

Also, where do you guys buy your games? They are pretty pricey on Amazon. I have never owned a GC. Excited for the ride!!!

$200 is not so bad, if it's CIB and in mint condition, but when you say the exclusive controller is missing... then it's another story

and I just happened to find this 2 days ago on a Taiwanese websites
http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21403110816344
sealed, selling for NT$10000 (~$330 USD)
I want one so bad :(

I snagged one of those much-desired Gamecube component cables off ebay after finding a "deal" for one at a buy-it-now price of $135. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I just had to know if this cable really does perform magic. Here's a shot of Super Mario Sunshine right at the beginning of the Pinna Park stage using the s-video and then the component. The camera seems to have both shots in focus as you can almost make out the pixels on the TV (1080p plasma, BTW). What does GAF think?

Larger S-video
Larger component

With I price I got I figured I couldn't lose as I could easily resell it and recoup my costs. There's too much confusion out there as to whether or not the Wii with its component cable stacks up against the GC component cable at 480p. I'll do some testing against the Wii component setup and decide for myself which is really the 480p king.

Ugh if there's one section of game stores that's completely empty it would be the Gamecube section. Literally nothing left worth buying. It's good that I have most if not all of the games I already wanted for the system but it still sucks.

I'm just on my phone but the second pic looks much better IMO.

I was hesistant to post this, but I figured I might as well with the Mario Sunshine Comparison further up. I own 3 copies of the Metroid Prime, Trilogy NTSC, PAL Gamecube and NTSC Gamecube. I decided to do a few comparisons as this is the only game I own in 3 formats. I also have a capture card and upscaler. Excuse the stretched images, it was too late when I realised to revert back.

PAL 576i Gamecube, through Component and Upscaler
Metroid Prime Trilogy, Running Via HDMI through Wii U
NTSC 480p Gamecube, Through Component (no Upscaler)
NTSC 480i Gamecube, Through Component (no Upscaler)

I'm a little annoyed with myself because I realise it's not a fair comparison since the NTSC shots don't have the extra power of my deinterlacer/upscaler, but it's an interesting set of shots to me none the less. As a result, I feel the PAL one in this particular unfair comparison, tops all 3 others, but again it's not particularly fair. In motion, the Trilogy copy still looks better to me than the PAL one did though. The 480i vs 480p one for the Gamecube will be roughly the difference between component and S-video for the games that support 480p. The difference is even bigger in motion as when you have a progressive signal it doesn't have interlacing like this during high motion moments: (480i through component)

love the Gamecube, probably my favourite system. I regret selling that system as a kid for store credit at eb..now i have nostalgia is killing me and going to buy the Gamecube again and relive my childhood. got a couple questions if you don't mind.

is this website "good"? they seem to have everything retro and the prices are solid.

http://www.lukiegames.com/

People seem to be frowning about the "Players Choice" games..why?
