Show us your gaming setup: 2014 Edition

Um, guess youre a fan of Halo then? Nice collection you got there!
Haha you could say that. Thanks :)
Is that a Studio Oxmox/Muckle Mannequins statue? I used to have a life-size Big Daddy one. They are really well made.
You sir are correct. It's really well made and I was really surprised to see that it could be disassembled into smaller pieces, sort of like a giant Lego structure. Was really helpful with getting it into the house, it weights a ton and it's too big to fit through the door :P
You own everything Halo related don't you? I think I even see the board game hiding somewhere
Almost and not everything is in the pictures, I want more but I don't have the money and newer statues/figures are almost instantly sold out to ebayers/scalpers :( The board game that you're seeing is the Halo 4 LE soundtrack.
The life-size Masterchief is awesome! And you have every book...I just read the first 3 and Kryptum.

Do you have a warthog outside? :D

Btw, that's a 55" Panasonic VT60 right? Awesome TV!
Haha I wish, I'd do anything to own a real life warthog or to even get to drive around in one.

TV is a 50" VT60, the extra price for a 55" was too much and the 50"' is big enough for the room it's in. My previous TV was a 37" LCD so either way it's a massive improvement.

After a few years of planning and waiting, I finally have my basement in a usable condition. There are still some finishing touches to make and the walls are pretty barren for my tastes. It seems I will also need a second sub to give me the impact I am looking for.

It also seems that my camera is not all that good.

TV is a Panasonic GT65, but it looks a small because the wall is quite large. Sub is a VTF-15H and the speakers are the Klipsch Refernce 62 series. Receiver is a Pioneer SC-67.

The way the Big Daddy went together was pure genius. Every joint used metal inserts of surgical precision, male and female cam fixings that rotated and clicked into place. The weight of each component locked everything in place.

This is the bugger (not my photo):

I imagine Master Chief worked on similar principles?

He was a right bastard to take apart though..!

Do you mind me asking where you got him and how much you paid?
(I paid £360 on eBay for Mr Bubbles and sold him a couple of years ago for around £900)

How do some of your guys afford all this gorgeous furniture and have time to play so many games. I've got a 2 year old son and have about 2/3 hours on an evening!

From my experience, most people don't even play their games on GAF lol

We just buy them and keep adding to a backlog.

Wow, that Big Daddy is big. Can imagine that he was a though item to place in your home.

You bought it from Mr Bubbles? A Bioshock statue from Mr Bubbles, that's funny.

I consider myself really lucky to get my hands on one. A buddy of mine found him across the country, so I can't tell you who the was person that sold it. But I don't live in the UK, so doubt that it's the same person. Paid €500 for him, which I consider cheap for this kind of object especially if you see the prices for which they're sold for these days. I don't plan on ever selling it though.

It's really easy to take him apart, only the arms are hard to remove. The feet and helmet are connected with an inch thick square metal shaft, the legs with a thicker pylon shaped metal shaft with two small extensions on the sides which hold it firmly in place especially with the entire body weight pressing on it. The arms are connected with a metal ball joint that allows the arms to move in full 360 degrees.

The first thing that caught my eyes. You've got cupholders in your couch. Nice

the_prime_mover's awesome basement

I love basement setups.

The house that i will probably end up buying has a similar configuration.

Your setup is great. I'll use it as my inspiration if you dont mind.

By all means! This set up was an obsession and it turned out really well.

I don't know how it is where you are, but if you can, get your basement ceilings set at 9 feet. A friend has the same house as me and his basement is like a cave without the extra foot. It cost a bit, but it is well worth it. The lowest point (where the ducts have to go under a support beam) is about 7 feet, the rest is either 8 or 9. Also reinforce everywhere that you might hang things (like the TV, speakers...) so that you don't have to worry about hitting a stud. I also wired the ceiling at the front and back of the room so that I can upgrade to a projector once the 4Ks are a reasonable price.

Man everyone's setups are so sexy. Mine is a bit messy and not complete as my PS2 setup is in my bedroom with a smallish CRT. But this is my main setup right now.

On the left we have a box of which was used to ship 4 PS2 to me. On the right we have the box that my Ultimate Madoka was shipped to me in.

SCPH-39003 PlayStation 2 with Ghost 2 v2 modchip, Mushihimesama and a Sony KX-14CP1 connected to the PlayStation 2 via an official PlayStation RGB SCART cable SCPH-1052.

Classy fella.

Haha this is amazing especially because I love Mushihmesama and I have a small CRT that I tate too.

All finished! Glass and hardware in! Sliding doors behind couch hide the furnace and gym equipment. Bathroom lets me go potty downstairs!

That the asus mx239h? How do you like it? Do you use it with fighting games? How's the ghosting/input lag?

Nah it's the ASUS VX238H-W and I love it honestly. I mainly play fighting games and the response time is great, I don't know if it's the best but it's way more responsive than my old display. I don't notice any ghosting or input lag. I just like that it's white too, I'm more a fan of white electronics these days. A funny fun fact is the scenic mode looks way better and more vibrant than the game mode, I have no idea why this is but it is.

Game modes turn off most kinds of post processing to keep response time low. "Scenic/vibrant" modes increase brightness and make colors stand out more. It's not accurate, but some people prefer how it looks.

Thanks a lot :)

I am a Chemistry student and live with my parents and my brother. But before I began to study I worked for almost a whole year in a consumer electronics shop. With the earnings I could buy all the stuff in my room and the furniture.

Before that it looked more like this:

Luckily I had some basic 3D modeling skills and was able to test some concepts out in Cinema 4D. This was my final plan:

The realization looks even better than in my wildest dreams ^^

Man, what a change from the before shots. Great job! Love this setup.

Anyone have a recommendation as to an entertainment stand that could hold a 65" SONY 4K XBR65X900A?

Went around to a few stores today (Value City Furniture, Ashley Furniture, HHGREGG, Best Buy), but no store had anything that held anything over a 55". I'm open to any kind of style. And preferably something with a lot of space to hold all my systems (PS3, PS4, 360, X1, N64, PS2, PS1, SNES)

For the sake of staying on topic, here's my old setup ripped from the 2013 thread

The Ikea square mdf shelves, can't remember what they're called, can easily hold the tv, and Xbone and ps4 just fit too, though you would want to drill some ventilation holes. Ikea in general often has surprising solutions.

Kind of a crap pic due to weird lighting in the room, but it's a good enough gist I suppose. We're always moving around (due to school) so this is temporary. Printer doesn't usually go there, it's just there as I did some re-arranging today. Playstation boxes are hiding a sub.

Congrats. That came out great. I especially like the built-ins and the bathroom finishes.

Crate and Barrel has several very wide stands that would look nice.

First time posting my set up:

Main gaming area is in the living room, Wii U, Xbox One and PS4

I also have a TV in my office set up with my PS3 and 360 along with various gaming collectables and art books

Ok cool, thanks. Looked like the mx

Ok cool, thanks. Looked like the mx

The MX' response time is 5ms, whereas the model Rain Inn has is listed as having a 1ms response time. Rain Inn's monitor is an improved version of the two monitors I use, the ASUS MS238 and ML228, which both have 2ms response time, IIRC. Not sure if there would be a major difference with 5ms response time or not.

Do you recommend the game mode? Just for response time/input lag? I assume you should but I've been rocking the scenic mode for games because the colors really pop in that mode.

I usually use game mode (also play a lot of fighters) on the monitor I use for consoles (standard mode for PC), but on these monitors the response time always seems great no matter which setting is used. I've had three Asus monitors and they've all been so awesome for gaming. I usually play on them instead of on my 40" TV.

Yeah I used to have a projector setup for a while which was great but it was only 720P and just in the end didn't look super sharp in comparison to this monitor for obvious technical reasons but I ditched it recently because I always was playing on my monitor and Wii U games look amazing on it.

Hey everyone. I need advice. I need a 30-40" monitor / tv to go on my desk.

The requirements are:

1) As low response time as possible, while still ensuring #2 is met.
2) It has to look good (all of these ASUS monitors look like garbage)
3) If it can be 2560 x 1440, that's even better, but I haven't seen any that match with #2 except Thunderbolt Display which suffers from lack of apple updates.

Price isn't an object (within reason). I wanted to ask this question here as people can see my taste from my gaming setup pictures. What do you recommend?

So I'm happy to finally share this... my first real house! For the past seven years I've rented numerous appartments, and it feels so good to finally actually OWN a house. My girlfriend moved in straight away, so that's exciting. So far, so good.

I have to say we're really in love with the house. Its from 99 so still fairly new, and in two weeks time we've really changed the look of the house to make it very 'warm', for lack of better description. In my appartements I had white walls but it was my gf's idea to make the walls more... sandy. And I have to say it works. The hard wooden floor downstairs was already in there.

The house is situated in a very quiet neighborhood, very close to the centre of my town so never far from where the action happens (or the train station, which is handy since I have to take the train to work each day), but its a closed off neighbordhood with one entry, so only people that live there go there. Very quiet in the evening, which is fantastic. Plus, its almost next to the hospital, which can also come in handy.

As you can see we have a garage next to it, which is also very handy as my gf has a car. Behind the garage there is a seperate part where we can place our washing machine, dryer and fridge.

As for the living room, please bear with me from now on as we're still placing furniture and stuff but its definitely a start! We feel it's very cosy. Its on the backside of the house where the garden is with big windows that give a lot of light during the day.

My PS4 is downstairs, part for netflix use, part for playing the newest games on my still very functional Sony Bravia 46 inch. Already have the tv for five years but has never let me down. My other consoles are upstairs in a gameroom, partly because its fun to have your own room in the house for gaming, partly because I don't want to be in the way of my gf when she wants to watch tv.

Our blu-ray / dvd collection at the backside of the living room. Physical media for the win! There's still some paintings here and there that we have to hang on the walls.

Next to the living room is the kitchen, which very handily works as a hallway between the living room and the dining room on the street side. That's also where we have some shelves with our books. Haven't made any pictures of that yet unfortunately. The pic you see here is still from the previous owners.

Our garden, very nice to finally have one instead of a balcony! Lots of work this summer to make it perfect, but I'm already happy that I can sit outside with good weather.

Our bedroom (a week ago). The stairs are out already, and there's a tv there now and some more stuff to make it feel like a home. On the backside there's a make up table for my gf. I've learned that living together means allowing your partner to have stuff as well. It has to be a home for the both of us, not just me.

And on that note, there's a walk in closet for our clothes. Of course my clothes are in there too, but this is really something to make my gf happy. And it's very convenient. She also has her own little office in the house, with her Mac and a world map where she tracks her travels. I dont have pictures of it though.

Now on to my pride, the game room! My father and I made shelves on one wall of the room to store all the games, because this way it takes less space than when you use furniture.

And this is the wall WITH games... some shelves missing above the picturte but you get the idea :) VERY happy with it!

As far as systems go, I have a good gaming pc, Wii U, Wii, GameCube, N64, SNES, NES, original GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, Micro, DS, DS Lite, DS Lite + or whatever its called, 3DS, 3DS XL, Mega Drive, Dreamcast, PS1, 2, 3 and 4, Xbox and Xbox 360. Xbox One isn't out here in the Netherlands yet.

And a panorama photo of the game room. Its much more impressive when you're there instead of looking at a pic. I'm VERY satisfied with it. Played through DK: Tropical Freeze here and I think I'm going to move the PS4 there this weekend to play Ground Zeroes and InFamous.

So that's my new house! Very happy with it, sorry that its not all gaming related but Im very happy with it and wanted you to have a tour in it.

Very nice Moz! Good to see everything is going great for you.

After seeing the last pic of your post I could almost immediately guess you were a Dutchy. And then I saw it was you.:P

Apple should be releasing a 4k display soon. You can wait for that.

You and me are cut from the same cloth, Tabris lol. Most industrial designs are horrendous lol. ASUS stuff does look terrible, however, one of their recent models has improved even just slightly on the design front.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...LCA2fnwmb0CFcyhOgodejgAlA&Q=&is=REG&A=details

This is probably their best looking PC monitor. Only 1080P, though.

Haha yeah :) What gave it away btw, why does it look Dutch? Not that I mind, just curious.
Had the same thing. The street and the fact that there's a box in your closet with the text "verhuisbox" on it gave it away for me ;)
Nice house you got btw.

Not a whole lot has happened since 2013, but I've finally bought myself a screen, along with some blackout blinds. Got the PJ on the wall too, although it's looking a bit ghetto atm.
