Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Surely more than one month could see mean 40 characters?
I'm assuming he means tripping is the worst, I really hate the final smashes though to be honest.

Surely the fact that melee worked so well without it means that this is not true. At least you have tui earn them in all stars, I hate really powerful luck based stuff.

At the very least you can survive getting hit by FS. PSA still has it bad. Also you can turn them off since they're not integral.

BAM!

This feels like the start of a character reveal this week for some reason. Like a Yoshi reason. Wait, no... Kid Icarus: Uprising arrived in Japan/North America on the 22nd/23rd two years ago. Make that a Palutena reason.

The Japanese Miiverse post translates into this:

"...When it is going to do one by one, update of one month worth but would be filled."

So I don't think he was hinting at the final character count. He was simply stating that with the currently revealed characters, a month's worth of PotD's would be taken up.

Smash Ball looks alright, I've got to admit though that I'm a bit disappointed that it looks like it's just a flat sprite again instead of an actual 3D sphere.

What I've always hated about the Smash Ball is that it can't appear at the same time as the Dragoon, and a lot of the time the Dragoon pieces would show up first and because it takes so long for someone to get all three pieces it's basically guaranteed nobody will be able to use a Final Smash in that match.

It's the one item I refuse to ever turn on. Battles stop being fun because everyone stops focusing on opponents once Smash Balls appear.

Doesn't that happen with a lot of items?

Any time a Hammer, PokéBall, Assist Trophy, Mushroom, Star Man, Cracker Launcher, Bob-Omb, or Heart Container pops up, I know I'm going straight for it.

I turn Smash Balls off because they appear WAY too often. Instead of feeling like a cool rare find, they feel like they direct the flow of an item battle.

Also, Pokeballs in Brawl sucked balls. :(

You never had a smash match where you just had nothing but pokeballs or nothing but bo ombs or nothing but hammers, etc. etc?

I really wish they let you adjust the frequency of each item independently. Would be a really useful feature
Me too. Some items really need to be rarer and some I wouldn't mind being more common.

I do, but it sucks doing mixed item matches with Smash Balls.

Also, the drop rate for Pokeballs is way too low for Pokeball only matches. I remember it being higher in Melee.

I'm confused by some of the responses here. Didn't we already get confirmation and a picture of the Smash ball?

(Also, I hate the cross design on it. Looks weird as hell)

Incidentally, what is that design anyway? Two swords crossing? But the original Smash only had one sword character...

And what the hell does "Smash Bros" refer to anyway? Mario & Luigi? Or that everyone is a "brother" to each other when Smashing?

Samus was in 64 though.

They thought they could trick us by putting her inside that robot Metroid guy!

I don't know what's worse. The fact that I forgot Samus was in the original, or the fact that I forgot Samus was in subsequent games as well.

You have the option to turn off the Smash Ball, yet somehow they're still complaints lol. Nice update, love the cohesive look of the Smash items.

:-P

My main complaint about the Smash Ball is that Sakurai gave Mario the worst final smash in the game. Sure, it looks all cool and destructive, but it doesn't do shit to your opponents. Hell, sometimes the damage count actually went DOWN after impact!

I've never experienced this damage count going down......that must have been a glitch in your disc or something, if you plan mario's FS, you get a KO

Was supposed to be a joke.

But I wouldn't doubt it might actually occur at some point cause you know, IT'S SO AWFUL

edit:

Also, too. Look at the top half of the smash ball. Is that supposed to be Mewtwo? :O

I love the smash ball, but have to turn it off because of how insanely unbalanced it is...

Hopefully there is some semblance of balance this time. That is my complaint, and I feel it's legitimate.

Yeah, on the other end of the Spectrum you got fucking Sonic whose final smash is basically god mode. I have a little rivalry with a friend who's a huge Sonic fan and whenever we play I'm kicking his ass pretty good (as Mario) until he grabs the smash ball at which point I get my clock cleaned.

I'll never forgive Sakurai for making my friend happy.

Can never tell anymore lol

Everyday I feel more distant from the Smash fanbase. I love the Smash ball, it's the fucking best thing in the game! Sure it needs to be optional.

How odd that the post says that he hasn't introduced any Final Smashes yet when we've seen Wii Fit Trainer's, Little Mac's, and Samus'. Samus' was in the first trailer, even! It makes me wonder if that's just a mistranslation.
Or if Sakurai is going senile from the stress of making Smash Bros.

Well, you can show something without introducing it...

Awesome pic, love Final Smashes (well, mostly) and the Smash Ball's new look.

Love how some people are bitching about what is a completely optional item. You guys will find any reason to complain about anything. "If I don't like something, even if it's optional, it's bad and should be removed from Smash!"

I love Final Smashes. They may need to change up Dedede's though so I don't choke my brother to death.

"Second worst thing to happen to the game" lol this thread is always so damn funny.

So I don't follow this thread regularly, don't know if this has been discussed yet, but seeing as Snake's chances of returning are probably small, I was thinking Isa Joe (S&P 2) or Saki (S&P) would make for good replacements, and follow the precedent of Little Mac in terms of assist trophies that got new games since the last Smash.

What do you guys think?

There are also plenty of areas from the games that lend themselves well to stages.
