God, the auto-invade/auto-summon areas are such bullshit and annoying as hell. I'm in the pharros place and it's nonstop "Summoning as a grey invader." If I wanted to do PVP, I would do it myself, thanks game. -_- At the very least, you don't lose humanity or souls when you die. But what's really annoying is how it isn't just a 1v1 thing. Oh no, it's a 1 person + as many enemies as they can round up thing.

Speaking of this area, are there any useful pharros stones? I really don't want to waste them on stupid drops.

When I don't feel like putting up with it and hunting down the host I just throw myself to the rats. Host gets his item, I save some time. We both win. Really glad there's no risk for grey phantoms.

Beat (early boss)
Dragonrider, w/o making him fall off
in one go. :\ This game is much easier than DS1 I feel. As there's no invincible roll they've made it so enemies and bosses are more based around circling.

Invincibility frames are absolutely still in the game. Harder bosses will come. I'll agree that
Dragonrider
is a total pushover. I seriously considered throwing away his soul because he's garbage.

hah! I thought the exact same thing. I beat the first 4 bosses in my run on my first try. The level of difficulty then suddenly ratcheted up and I died a lot on
lost sinner

Lol just messed around with a blue sentinel for a 20 minutes, I chameleoned myself into flowers and followed him around seeing if he could spot me. Was intense.

If you use ethernet cable on your PS3, you can always pull it out once the auto summoning is happening :) I have done that a few times. The only negative about this for my own sake is that i have to quit the game (just to the main menu, but still) and start it again for it to be online.

Just defeated the
Ruin Sentinels
. Not as hard as I was bracing myself for. I'm still rolling the flame longsword and base sorcerer staff
(even though I got the bone staff, it seems it does less damage)
. Wish I could find better items. Oh well, onto the next area! I've done a 180 on this game, I didn't like it at first but have now starting coming around to really enjoying it!

just log out. Triangle on Account Settings>log off.

Did anyone experience a glitch where their character had a sex change. I originally created a male character and about 15 hours in I noticed he started grunting like a woman. Sure enough I took off my hat and my character was a woman. At first I thought I was just crazy and had accidentally created a female character without realizing it, but 10 hours later she changed back into a he.

You entered a coffin near the start of the first area right?
Go back to it & re-enter it.

So I just finished the game.

Alot of questions: all kinds of spoilers ahead
I still have numerous boss souls left, yet Straid won't trade anything for them. Is there someone else I can trade them with for boss weapons/spells?

What do I do with Soul of a Giant? I got three of them.

I did the giant memories in forest of giants, are there other memories I can enter elsewhere?

Was Nashandra the same queen that I met in Drangleic Castle? She was far away so I couldn't make her out clearly but she did seem different.

Just join the Rat Covenant from the previous rat place and you won't have to pvp or even deal with mobs.. You can still fight the boss though..

Ah yeah, I haven't really messed around much with Covenants (since they are usually PVP-based and I don't care about PVP).

The locks in that area activate traps for the grey phantoms. If you're not planning on camping there as a member of the rats there's no reason to activate them.

Oh, I gotcha. There was one I used that lead to a trapped chest (inside was like 15 magic arrows.. whoopie.. lol.

The fact that there is no risk is the only thing that kept me online during that area.

It was tempting just because it was annoying having to keep being summoned and interrupted where I was in the level, but thankfully, the level isn't particularly long. I really just don't understand why they put in these auto-invade/auto-summon areas. It should just pop up a message when someone wants to summon you so I could politely decline. :P

Curses and petrification are two different status effects in this game. Curse basically just increases your level of hollowing by one without actually killing you. If you're human when it happens you become hollow and if you're already hollow you lose another chunk of your maximum life. If you're human with phantoms summoned and you get cursed you don't lose them, which makes it possible to be hollow with co-op buddies if you summon them and then get cursed.

Petrification is basically just an instant death status effect like curse was in the first game, but without any lingering status after you respawn other than the standard penalties for death.

Ah, makes sense I haven't noticed it then, as I've got the ring of bindng on at all times and rarely go human.

Yep.

Anyone know where the estus shard in
Drangleic Castle
is? Last one I need.

Its close to the
central castle drangleic bonfire....through a tight corridor that skirts a room with two dragon riders, then up/down some stairs.
I am not there yet so all this means nothing to me...but I will want that shard to be sure as well! ;)

So I just finished the game.

I'm pretty sure that it is the same queen. If you go up to the place again where you met her the first before fighting her, she isnt there anymore.
I dont know the answers to your other questions, sorry.

I wrecked my own armour on the traps and never got anyone in them anyway...hurt me too use the single trap one I did! lol. Just do one for a draw bridge to go accross a fissure.

The auto summoning is part of the covenant stuff. If you join the
Rat Covenant, and wear the ring that you get, you the get a rat tail if you defeat an invaded gray soul in that area
. Its the same concept with other convenants at other places in the game that also have auto summoning. If you could choose to reject or accept a summoning, many people would probably reject it and it would be harder to complete the covenant tasks. I agree that it could be nice to have the option to turn auto summoning off though :)

I thought so judging from the
boss soul description and the fact she had left that room. I went back there to check before I read you reply :) I feel like im pretty lost on what the heck happened lore wise in this game. Fortunately ENB and Vaati will probably clear that stuff up eventually

Yeah, i didnt really get too much of the story in this game either. I think that the queen was originally evil or something, and she came to Drangleic to seek power, disguised as a normal woman. She warned the king about the giants to gain trust. But i'm not 100% sure what exactly happened.
Who is ENB and Vaati by the way? Users here on Neogaf?

Hey, anybody who knows about titanite can you answer this. I'm swimming in titanite chunks. I have over 100. Is there any way I can turn them into the other forms of titanite? Like combine ten chunks into a slab, or break chunks into large pieces?

The one handed strong attack for some greatswords may be overpowered. Just been dicking around with the bell covenant and most of the time all I have to do is spam it to win.

Those things in No Man's Wharf. Those terrible, screechy, nightmare-inducing things. Just ran out of torches too. First time in the game I've felt that familiar Dark Souls dread.

Fiiiiiinaly after more than 3 hours of fighting this fucker...

(warning end game spoilers) http://imgur.com/3kQoftu

I am exhausted, must have been about a 10 minute fight when I beat him. Once I finally got my strategy perfected it wasn't too bad, feel like I could probably do it again quickly now, but man what an asshole. Longest I've ever spent on a boss and definitely the most annoying in the game.

I helped 20 people kill a certain pain in the backside boss in the Iron Keep today for my sunlight medals, feels good man!

Well, I just had an interesting two times being summoned for co-op in (location/boss spoiler)
Iron Keep against Old Iron King. First time the boss had already spawned before going through the grey mist so you could see him and he was kind of clipping through the grey door. I tried to shoot him with arrows before activated the boss battle but it didn't seem to do anything. Was really strange.

The second time I was summoned I tried to help but misjudged where I was on the map and rolled right off into a pit. Felt really stupid.

Nope. It's not like it matters. After upgrading with chunks you only have to use 1 slab to max the weapon. For titanite shards
There will be vendors that sell an infinite amour of titanite and large titanite shards.

Youtube personalities. ENB (EpicNameBro) helped write the guide for Future Press and is uploading a video a day of his companion walkthrough.

In other DkS 2 news, the run to (Mid-game location spoiler)
Smelter Demon in Iron Keep
is a total bitch. I lost 40k because I got sick of killing the "trash" mobs and tried running past. Not bloody likely.

Because I didn't know about [early game spoiler]
talking to the miracles chick in Heides to get her to move to Majula
, I ended up not knowing how to get to some really early areas. I beat the boss in Sinner's Rise before even knowing that Huntsman's Copse existed. Now I'm totally overleveled.
