I'm not the only one who thinks those prisoners with that AOE jump attack are massive dicks right. Sure they go down in one hit pretty much but in packs and in darkness like in The Gutter they massive dicks

Fuck them

Yes, those guys are dicks. I've died more than a few times to them.

I got summoned once there and it took me five minutes straight of
lighting my torch and putting it out
and pointing at the host and
running to the windmill
over and over before he got it.

Just helped someone get it. Feels satisfying but boy its difficult without voice chat lol.

Well, getting to the boss in
The Lost Bastille
is a pain in the arse.

First time through that initial rush of enemies can be brutal, but you can open a door seemingly leading to nowhere but a pit at the bottom of the keep that acts as a helpful shortcut for quick boss runs. You can walk off the edge of the ramparts high above in the area where you face the dogs and caped halberd guys and fall right into that doorway(a fearful drop that works) letting you skip fighting through that whole tower each time you want to reface the boss. One of the more devious shortcuts in the game.

Good idea to Infuse a catalyst with magic? Would add another 100 to the magic attack of my catalyst but i'm unsure if i want to waste the faintstone if it has no real world benefit. i'm a pure sorcerer, no hexes o anything that depends on faith because i'm a dirty heathen.

It's the best thing to do. Might up your scaling as well, depending on the catalyst.

Anyone having issue with trying to place a summon sign?

Are you still online and logged into the servers? If you can't even open the "Message" popup from the menu, then you are offline. You will likely have to quit and rejoin.

Or do you mean you place one down and noone ever uses it?

I will be notified I'm being summoned, followed by failed to join multiplayer session notiticaton.

Then I am unable to place it back down. I've quit a few times and it keeps happening, just restarted the Xbox to see if it helps

Edit: also, I don't get a message that I can't place it down, it just disappears and I am unable to use the soapstone again

DARK SOULS CO-OP WITH FRIENDS

Maybe this could even be it's own thread but I'll start from here. I had some success with co-oping with friends in Dark Souls and they have said they want to try again.

So I want to ask for your tips if you have done this in the past. So far I know this...

- you have to be close in Soul Level, the closer the better.
- if you are apart of the same covenant it is more likely.
- you obviously have to coordinate and be at the same spot in the game.
- I believe there is a ring you find early on that improves your chances

Is an out of the way spot better to see a familiar summon sign than near a bonfire? Any other techniques people know or have learned through play?

If you are within range for Soul Level / Memory (very lenient from my experience, as long as one person is not miles ahead in the game), all you need is the Name-Engraved Ring. As long as everyone chooses the same god, you are rarely summoned by anyone else and can usually see your signs right away. If you don't, usually running away from the area or save/quit and relogin will make it appear.

It is worth noting that there are a couple of areas you can't co-op in. Speaking of that, has anyone been able to successfully co-op in late game area
Dragon Shrine
? You can put down your soapstone, but me and my friend couldn't see eachothers. Tested in other areas and it worked as normal.

Yeah I've had this issue once on the PS3 where I was summoned and then got disconnected somehow. Haven't had the issue since though

So have we established yet how many times you have to kill enemies before they disappear? I am trying to
kill all the mobs in dragon shrine so they won't kill me on the way to the ancient dragon (I make the run like 20% of the time...) optional boss

I don't really understand the layout of
The Lost Bastille

There are 3 areas, with one boss, a couple of shortcuts, and no shortcuts to the boss as far as I can tell

Can anyone tell me how to get the loot that's on top of the wall at the top of the stairs near the bonfire by
the blacksmith
?

heides knight sword vs fire longsword vs falchion vs richards rapier. Which is better?
I tried the Ricard rapier earlier for my mage build and I didn't like it that much. The r2 attack seems nerfed. Doesn't do as much damage as it used to and it destroys the durability. The fire longsword is alright but I'm not the biggest fan of its move set in this game.

The number seems to vary for me. Sometimes it feels like 10. A couple dudes I swear I only killed 2-3 times before they disappeared forever. And then there are a few normal mobs that disappear after the first kill because they drop something important (Heide area)
for example, one of the Heide knights. He drops bone dust and never respawns.

I only know about Heide vs FireLong.

Heide has the better damage and in the long run, it would be the most powerful weapon, given how it can be enchanted with another element and won't lose it's lightning property. But you will find better swords before you get the dull ember, so you may not want to invest in Heide.

But FireLong has the way better moveset; the H2R2 stab is godlike, and super quick to repeat, and just destroys opponents.

Keep FireLong.

What is the deal with gaining humanity from helping out as a phantom? A bunch of times helping take down a boss has reverted me to human form and a bunch of times it hasn't. What gives?

Also, how do you become an orange phantom rather than a beige one?

Seriously cant beat ruin sentinels in my own game. Its been 3 days since I've gotten to them. Only have beaten them once in co-op and every time I summon people to my world they always die leaving me to fight the last two by myself. Im level 41 so this is pretty bad lol

No shortcut as far as I know, but what I did for that area was clear out all the enemies before that building (so the dogs and that big guys). And then for the one and only entrance to that building: I would run in, go down the stairs, go quickly up the ladder, and then run to boss. They are too slow to catch up.

I've been curious as well actually.

Aromatic Ooze won't go on the Heide sword in my experience. I didn't try any resins but I don't think they would be any different.

1) I've noticed this inconsistency as well.
2) Praise The Sun!

It wasnt intended to happen and will be fixed later.

It's pissing me off because I suck at this game (I do the majority of my boss fights with summoned help) and I don't want to be in a DS1 situation where I have to farm dogs (rat farming, ugh) for effigies just to progress.

Exacerbated by the fact that the dogs disappear after killing them a bunch.

Think that boss is my only way of progressing, anyone else found the same?

Maybe that loot is linked to the
Pharros Contraption
?

Already used both of the lockstones I bought, there'd better be a way of getting more

Did you buy them all from Melentia already?

Enjoying NG+ more than the first playthrough. Wish that the new enemies were more prominent, though - it's mostly just the same old enemy placements with an addition here and there, and a black phantom gank squad popping up once every level or so.

Some things which I thought were overkill:

Those ninja things with the Flexile Sentry were impossible for me. Hits hard, hits fast, in a confined space smaller than the Capra arena from DkS1, with two of them + the Sentry itself. And to add insult to injury, they can inflict Toxic.

Ended up eating an effigy to summon Lucatiel, who took their attention long enough for me to wreck them.

---

Fuck those pyros with the Lost Sinner. Fuck them to hell.

---

Not a fan of how Heide's population doubled in size. Just dumping random enemies in doesn't up the challenge factor so much as just sheer frustration and annoyance, FROM.

---

More of an annoyance, but those two scythe-wielding BPs that respawn in Huntsman's Copse are lame as hell. I hate the frequency with which you are pitted against doughy, hard hitting mobs in tight corridors. Reminded me of the horrors of fighting through the Pilgrims of the Dark areas, with its random holes on the ground.

Wait, so now in NG+
bosses have adds? Because I hate that...

God rat covenant is so damn fun. I never really got into PvP in dark souls 1 but fucking with people in this covenant is so deliciously evil.

Make sure to stack up on Sorceries or Pyromancy. People you are summoning love that shit when they are trapped between the dogs and the elephants.

There is a ring that will prevent you from losing souls and remain human. Really over-powered, but really really useful. I love it. :P

Sunbros Covenant question:
Is the Sun Sword any good? I'm doing a lot of co-op anyway so I'm only 8 medals away from it.

Cheers

Have you been to an area, two words starting with H and C? If not, might want to explore the path to Heide's again.

Yes there is a shortcut from the blacksmith fire,
open the door that just opens to a straight drop off. Then from the bonfire run up the walkway and take the first right where a dog is waiting, Sprint forward off the ledge and you'll land right in the open door.

I really need to farm some more lockstones and go to town on that place. Do lockstones/rat traps stay open in NG+ or should I just hoard them for my second time through?

Been wondering the same tbh.

If you guys mean in the Bastille,
there's a pair of hidden doors near the top of the tower, in the room with the 2 zombie prisoners hidden in vases, in one of the little alcoves. You open the first one then there's another inside that little room. Afterwards, there's a bunch of treasure on the roof, and then you have to jump to the wall and run all the way around to get the last treasure. It's a shield and i think a firefly jar?
hope that helps.

You can. Did it while messing around with a new mage character.

This is awesome possum. I'm going to start dragging the AI everywhere I can think of that they aren't supposed to go.

Initial tests seem to be showing that it depends on the enemy. Some have higher limits than others, and a few never stop spawning.
