Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I'm trying to mess around with the rat covenant, but even though I'm in it and I have the ring equipped, enemies are still hostile towards me and after like 30 minutes nobody has come to my world. I'm in Door of Pharros. Anyone know what's up?

Yeah, the spiders seem to drop so many kinds of weapons. I've gotten at least 2 others than the ones you mentioned.

The weird thing is that I checked the guide, and none of those items are listed as drops for them. According to this, they're only meant to drop:

Human Effigy
Prism Stone
Tseldora Cap
Tseldora Robe
Tseldora Manchettes
Tseldora Trousers
Large Titanite Shard x2

I just got a
Mastodon Greatsword
from another one.

Oh god theres spiders?

I absolutely HATE spiders. I couldnt finish Skyrim because of it or dragon age.

Though to be fair Dark souls 1 and Demon souls are probably the perfect game to have huge spiders...oh well guess it was only a matter of time :(

any drawbacks to respeccing? I've got the
soul vessel
from the mansion and I just wanted to know if more will be available to me in the future (before a NG+)

Please make a video of yourself *screaming internally* when you get to that part lol.

I feel that bowing should be reserved for duels. If I get invaded I'm probably going to bum rush the dude. If I'm the one doing the invasion I'm definitely hunting the guy down.

Seriously? So if someone in PVP bowed to you your first instinct would be "aha! an opening!" It's kind of a dick move in a game with limited communication. I try to bow as often as possible unless someone is clearly just going to kill me, and since this guy was hanging back, I figured he'd respond in kind.

Wow, I can't believe I missed the path to Huntsman's Copse and other areas this whole time. The way you "unlock" that path is kind of stupid imo. I'm way too strong for these areas, but it feels nice to shred through enemies and destroy bosses
(Skeleton Lords and Chariot)
on the first try.

I still haven't found it. Trying to do everything by myself this first run, but missing that and need to find better robes ASAP. Maybe time to finally hit that wiki.

You start out as a deprived build (6's all around) so you may not have as many points as you expect since some starter classes have less than 6 points in a particular stat. At least that is what I heard.

Reposting since I got buried a few pages back:

So, I haven't played Dark Souls in quite some time.. was more of a Demons Souls veteran...

I started Dark Souls 2 as a swordsman, and I know you can't parry if you're dual wielding. Ok... It's supposed to be more offensive, right? So your basic options are attack -> roll? I've read a little bit about power stance, but I don't see it's full utility this early.

Should I just throw a shield on? I'm only a couple of hours in, but dual wielding feels really weird right now.

Is there a good resource for learning all the ins and outs of combat, etc. in this game?

You dont fill me with hope!

I came across one of those
mimic chests
today for the first time in that
poison place
(cant remember the name) absolutely crapped myself as soon as i saw the teeth!

can't believe I"m getting better help from sunbros then normal summons

sunbros

I feel like I"m turning into one

Shouldn't surprise you. Sunbros = best bros. The sunbros i've experienced tend to be really efficient, helpful players. When I have the choice I ALWAYS summon sunbros first.

Soul Greatsword can be obtained if you have a branch of yore. Most of the best spells are either found or in the latter half of the game.

Really, I thought that was all the way in the
castle?

Can I maximize pyro damage by investing only in INT, or does it require INT and FAI both?

Honestly, yeah. If we aren't dueling in one of the arenas then I'm going to treat a player phantom the way I treat other mobs in the game. Their task isn't jolly cooperation when they use an orb.

There's spiders in pretty much every game. My wife jokes about this all the time. "Hey, there's a spider in this game...that never happens." You should use this as a way to empower yourself and defeat them.

Early in the game, there a room with
5-6 big crossbows, and there is door down there that only opens from one side.
How on earth do i get in there? I've tried to search around that area several of times, and i have also tried to look for hidden wall entrances, but i havnt found any entry point.

A person who worked on the official guide said there's a penalty for disconnecting. No details on what the punishment is.

Each time you disconnect you accumulate sin, you will keep getting invaded until you are out of sin, you lose 1 sin each time you are killed from invasions

So I am having a hard time with smelter demon, where else can I go other then iron keep? Where is sinners rise, I thought I would try that out and come back to iron keep later.

I really wish cracked red orbs weren't so rare. I know you can duel other reds for them, but that's hardly the same as having the red orb in DS. Seems like they are pushing for PVP in NG+. It's a shame that regular style invasions don't seem to be happening much in the normal game.

Do any of you happen to know which enemies drop the (midgame weapon/area spoilers) G
yrm
A
xe
in the D
oors
of P

?
I'd really like another one in addition to the one you find by default, but the wiki doesn't get more specific than 'dwarves in Doors of Pharros'. Is it the guys with the greatshields and great hammers, the guys with the two greataxes or the small guys with the anvils on chains?

Yeah but not mingy spiders like in skyrim or dragon age!

Can count on one hand the amount of games that have gross spiders in them.

Anyways i did just google it....mmm not looking forward to a certain
boss!

So just had a duel where we were both having a naked fistfight and we ended up killing each other at the exact same time and it was probably the best, manliest thing ever. I love this game so much.

Great Axes
dude dropped a
Great Axe
for me.

Do you like this weapon? I'm going to give it a try.

Does anyone know if i
tem discovery
stacks across multiple items? If I wear the J

and C
ovetous Gold Serpent Ring +1
, am I getting the buff twice or am I wasting of my equipment slots.

Be polite and knock.

I think the door opens when you
activate the Pharros contraption in that room. It opens another wall, but it also sneakily opens that door so the guys in there ambush you.

One of the enemies in I
ron
K
eep
did something interesting:
he punched me with his left hand before drawing his right hand katana. The effect was that the very quick punch set me up for a slower strong attack. I'm thinking of trying this out.

Try dodging all the time. Never block his attacks (you don't want to run into one of the worst bugs in the game either).

Dumb question, but how do I do the jump attacks with my sword?

Quickly thrust forward on the analog stick at the same time as R2/L2. Must be perfectly timed.

Same. If I see them casting Sunlight Spear, I tank the boss while they just destroy it. Otherwise they just tank with a greatshield while I whale on it. Always bet on a Sunbro.

Nah, I specifically mean the normal one. It has A scaling in STR, and just looks bad ass. I'd just like to dual wield them.

I don't know about the great one, but I believe it has only D/E STR/DEX scaling.

I will give him a couple more shots, but I was asking just in case I get tired of him. I have already died enough times for all the enemies to disappear and I am out of effigies lol.

I have no idea why i didnt try to hit the door. That worked. Thanks! :)

Is there any way to do a proper knock by the way?

It didnt do that when i tried earlier, but simply hitting the door opens it. Thanks for the answer anyway :)

Hit the door.

Edit: beaten like a locked door.

One thing I always love in games is a bunch of hidden secrets unlockable areas and goodies tucked around the world. This game might have the most of that type of stuff I have ever seen!

Iron boss one shotted me through a wall....at the end of the fight
-
what the fuck ever

I got one shotted by one of Duke's Dear Freja's babies 2 seconds after I had already killed her.
