Darklurker
is an asshole. When he
clones himself
, it's just full on panic mode.

Out of effigies again. F this, I'm doing it later with a sorc. character

Got the Platinum, now to start a new character.

Also, people should be careful with healing.
Warmth can heal bosses.

Platinum already!

Christ you must of been booking it.
Im 40 hours on playthrough one and only just on my way to the castle.
maxed out 2 covenants and pretty sure i still havent found every secret before the castle.
In fact i know ive missed a boss.

Many of those are actually the reason I like DaS2 better than 1. To me it's comparable to Demons in a way that if I don't like to explore an area, I can just warp to another one, from the beginning and without too much pointless walking around. Dark 1 just felt annoying to me because of it, nor did I like its design choices very much. DaS had huge areas, but they just went on for too long. DaS2 areas may be too short, but it's better than Anor Londo. It was great when I first got there, but it really grew stale on me pretty fast.

Other than that there's the difficulty before you find that one ring (and maybe this games
cling ring
), which reminds me more of Demons than Dark. People always say that playing Demons is what made Dark feel easier, but to me it just was easier. This game felt more brutal until I got it, Dark 1 didn't (until the Dukes Archives, where it turned out my build was terrible and I hit a wall, rather than a nice slope).

As far as bosses go, I never thought most of the souls bosses were brilliant other than in graphical design, just good. These are no exception (even though there's nothing close in design like the Sif fight, I'll give you that).

Heh, I managed that with a brute force pyromancy tactic.
He split in the midst of a fire storm and thus died.

Which boss? Is that the
Darklurker? I noticed I needed to burn an effigy every time I visited the Abyss, but I only died twice: once in the first dungeon (got mobbed by the phantom turtle knight and pyromancer), and once in the third (Havel and Ricard ganked me, bastards XD). But the boss itself went down in my first try. It did do some massive dark magic damage at some point, but that's the only time I was ever in danger. Pro-tip: firestorm absolutely wrecks this boss. Try pyros?
Yah, that guy. That would be fine advice if I wasn't melee only. The boss absolutely destroys me and I have barely anytime to attack due to the speed of my weapon. I mean the first half is fine but he becomes nearly impossible to damage once he splits. I'm gonna try to tank the spells with either Havel's shield or the mirror shield (which says it deflects spells?). The fight is incredibly difficult as melee only and I could tell it would be a much easier fight as a caster but I won't fall to that level.

So Yah if anyone has suggestions for where to farm effigies that would be great.

Im trying to kill
Ancient Dragon, which is a bitch in itself. It really seems like its luck which way he breathes fire when he goes up in the air.

Anyway, since all his attacks kill me in one shot I might as well use the red tearstone ring.
Problem is I don't have any item that drains my health. You guys come across any I could safely/easily use to get myself down to 20% hp?

I have a question about the Bonfire Aesthetic. When you use it, what exactly does it effect? The whole zone, or the area of the bonfire where there were fog gates? I was curious to ask because I might want to refight some bosses, but I want to make sure I don't waste it.

If someone can help explain to me its range, that would be swell.

About 60h in (had to restart due to the "no MP" bug that has yet to be patched), and I'm on the last of the four Old Ones. But I'm a real sightseer and grinder. I hate missing things.

It works only for the Bonfire area. If you want to respawn a boss, you have to use an ascetic on a bonfire that's closest to the boss. Also, do keep in mind that using an ascetic is permament and carries through to NG+ (setting the difficulty for that area to NG++).

how did you do the miracles / spells? Don't you need to get thousands of pvp kills?

All the covenenat specific spells can be bought from the Councillor Wellager in Drangleic Castle in NG+.

Farm the dogs in Lost Bastille, I believe it's called. The area before the three sentry bosses.

Make sure you put on a gold serpent ring and merchant cap if you have them. They drop pretty frequently.

The
water creatures in Shrine of Amana
also drop them, in my experience.

Ah, nice title change. I've got Vengarl's helmet, I find it goes nicely with my knight armor. I wonder when
his body will show up to be fought. No need to tell me though, I'll find it eventually.

lol, i was doing sunbro runs when i joined a player in the c
hariot fight. i was taking out the first necromancer when this guy who summoned me sneaked behind me in my hiding place --> killing me right there. what a fatty.

Im dreading getting to the castle and then getting that bug that can happen there.

Best tactic I've seen is to stay a fair distance in front of him so he does the forward fire breath attack, run in and hit his foot a few times then get back in front of him. Takes forever but his flying attack can be unavoidable if he is too close to the edge so not worth the risk of triggering it.

Gyrm greatshield yo. You can block
his fire
with it. Makes the fight easy as.

Eh, I just had some enemies come out of extinction on the way when I went to rejoin sunbro covenant. I'm 100% certain I killed all the giants in Harvest Valley but there they were, 2 of them come back.

Yea I died to this a few times yesterday and thought to myself there's no way to dodge that. Also is there a bonfire nearer the boss, the run up to him is kinda risky when skipping the mobs.

Can you even block the flying attack with that if you are facing the right way?

The one where he goes in the air and breathe fire all over the place? Yeah. The shield needs to be upgraded and you need about 20 endurance (which is what I had when I beat him).

It's the only attack I ever had to block though, I'm not sure you can block his head on fire breathing attack but it's so easy to avoid (just run towards him) that it shouldn't be a problem.

Heh, yeah,
he'll be hard to miss. That isn't one of the things that you'd only find out via a wiki or whatever.

The bug in his brain that compelled him to join the hardcore covenant at the start, probably. I just went "no thanks" and turned away, though I guess I should've joined then immediately abandoned. Eh, it can be done whenever.

I'm sure that you can get
Wrath of the Gods, and Chaos Fireball from Chancellor Wellager on NG++.
Not sure about
Hidden Weapon and Sunlight Spear, as I got those through ranking up.
So technically you don't have to do the hundred of PvP fights.

In fact i know ive missed a boss.

Playtime was 116 hrs, lvl 174. NG++. Total deaths 586, which I'm ok with for three playthroughs. Beat every boss except one on my second and third playthrough.

Overall, really enjoyed the game, and won't be putting it down soon.

Gyrm greatshield = life

So due to my life of protection I managed to rake over 750000 souls due to making certain area's new game plus. It was fun to level up with that many souls.

I think I will grind out some other areas by making them new game plus before I finish the game.

Also any tips for a new weapon? I have 34 strength and have been rolling with the heide knight sword + 10 for a while and it has out stayed it's welcome.

About the boss soul weapons: Some of them can be deceiving simply judging them on stats alone. For example, the Warped Sword is a bit weak at first but after a few upgrades it does good damage and scales A with Dex. Not only that but it seems to do more poise damage than other weapons of it's class and size. Also, the R1 swing is pretty fast and I can get a quick draw on the
katana weilding knights
in Iron Keep, where as using a Long Sword, which is also a very fast weapon, if I attacked at the same time as the knight I would also take damage. The R2 attack of this weapon is also really cool.

How do I get the TMNT shell I saw in a video? Is it just a rare drop from the turtle guards or is it something else?

Also, never actually used a BA. Does it permanently make the area NG+, or just for one go?

I can dig that, and it's weird because that video game feel isn't necessarily bad, but is made more obviously unintentional. It's not like the game screams out features or systems. If anything, Dark Souls should feel more videogamey due to its more obvious structuring. But the aimlessness of Dark Souls 2 exposes some weird design imbalances and obtuseness that I'm not sure works in favour.

The game as a whole just seems to be one big hodge podge of bosses and areas, all of which I'm really enjoying, but together weirdly aimless and disjointed compared to Dark Souls.

I tried to explain it to my housemate and probably did a bad job, as he couldn't fathom why a more open world would be worse than the structure of Dark Souls (he has no interest in playing either, mind you), but I thought Dark Souls did a fantastic job of giving you the illusion of an open world with the freedom to explore yet just the right amount of non-intrusive guidance to steer you towards your goals. You could still piss off and explore multiple areas, try bosses in non-sequential order, and even tackle optional challenges, but the difficulty scaled pretty nicely with your progression and there was a good sense of "That area is really hard, so I know if I return to it later I can conquer it, but I CAN try and do it now", whereas Dark Souls 2 is more "HERE IS A BIG WORLD FILLED WITH BOSSES. GO KILL 'EM, CHAMP". The "get big souls" objective is also far more abstract and meaningless for so much of the game than ring the bells, fill the vessel, conquer.

I'm disappointed, too :-/
See here:

So, finally here :)

My first post in this thread and.... well.... I'm totally disappointed.
I was under media blackout, so please (if you can and want) answer my questions, if possible:

1. What the hell happened with the animations of the character and the monsters?
First time they have used motion cap and it sucks ass.
Sometimes, it looks like the main character and the monsters are gliding on rails or ice. Absolutely horrible!
The animations in DS1 were great. Why ruining it with this crappy mo-cap work? :(
I already saw it in the first trailers (and talked about it, here, on Neogaf) and somebody here said "they know about it and they're gonna fix it in the end". Welp.... didn't happen :(

2. Why in the hell would you remove the "kick"?
In DS1, I could kick the enemies away from me, etc. Now you can only "push" them, which sucks. WTF is this shit? Why removing it?

3. What happened with the combat errrr..... hit detection in DS2?
Hitting an enemy with my sword feels and looks like I'm hitting him with a small/thin iron stick. There is absolutely no weight behind it. I don't "feel" it anymore.
It was perfect in DS1.

4. Main issue: WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE RUMBLE?
I mean.... where is it? Played for 20 hours now and my controller rumbled twice! Two times, in 20 hours!!! What happened here? Checked the options/settings, etc. --> Rumble should be there, but it isn't. What's going on here? :(

Am I the only one here?
Playing it for some time now and I'm getting used to it (to all the downgraded/removed stuff, which was better in DS1), but... what the hell?!?! ;_;

It's weird :-(

By the way, does the bonfire ascetic do anything significant at Majula? Or is it just for Death Piggies 2: Electric Boogaloo?

Turtle Knights are the only way afaik.

Not too uncommon though.

. My god what an easy boss fight, likely due to my build. Faith/Pyro/Dex (with STR 20 so I can equip any armor). Just toxic mist him twice to poison, then just waited for the breath attack, went to blind spot spammed AOE lightning attack each cast doing nearly a quarter of HP bar. Thought it would be much more difficult.

Hardest boss thus far for me I think is the S
melter
D
emon
. Just due to fact that you need to figure out how to raise your fire res high enough, luckily i had the hex set, slapped that on with the +1 fire def ring along with ring of restoration, and barely lost any health when I got close.

Question, been trying to get the black steel katana and have had no luck even with the jester hat, and rusted coins. I've gotten tons of the armor pieces that drop, but not the katana :( Any suggestions?

Yup, that is what I have been trying. (8 tries so far) but he eventually does the fly up into the air and most of the time I can run away but then like you said if he is too close to the edge its a done deal.

My question still stands: are there any items that drain my health steadily so I can get myself to under 20% HP easily to trigger the red tearstone ring?

That's interesting, I'll give that a go when the PC version comes out as I think I'm done on consoles for now with other stuff starting to come out. Already put around 150 hours in so I'm going to try and hold off until then.

cool thanks-

anyone who hasn't beaten the gargoyles yet should take advantage. the AI invader in that area is easier to dispatch than randoms impeding your progress.

it sounds precarious but I had more trouble getting to the gargoyles than the actual fight
(they are weak against any magic and lightning)

I know there's at least a few weapons that hurt you when you attack. One is a katana but I don't recall the name.
