Also, people should be careful with healing.Warmth can heal bosses.
Many of those are actually the reason I like DaS2 better than 1. To me it's comparable to Demons in a way that if I don't like to explore an area, I can just warp to another one, from the beginning and without too much pointless walking around. Dark 1 just felt annoying to me because of it, nor did I like its design choices very much. DaS had huge areas, but they just went on for too long. DaS2 areas may be too short, but it's better than Anor Londo. It was great when I first got there, but it really grew stale on me pretty fast. These are the impressions I had of the game: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=104760780&postcount=19658
Heh, I managed that with a brute force pyromancy tactic.is an asshole. When heDarklurker, it's just full on panic mode.clones himself
Out of effigies again. F this, I'm doing it later with a sorc. character

Which boss? Is that theDarklurker? I noticed I needed to burn an effigy every time I visited the Abyss, but I only died twice: once in the first dungeon (got mobbed by the phantom turtle knight and pyromancer), and once in the third (Havel and Ricard ganked me, bastards XD). But the boss itself went down in my first try. It did do some massive dark magic damage at some point, but that's the only time I was ever in danger. Pro-tip: firestorm absolutely wrecks this boss. Try pyros?
Yup, same haha.Heh, I managed that with a brute force pyromancy tactic.
What shield is this if you don't mind me asking. I've been hunting for the Black Dragon Shield farming the guys, but it's not working out so hot.
You can get all of those covenant reward spells in single player during NG+/NG++how did you do the miracles / spells? Don't you need to get thousands of pvp kills?
Platinum already!
Christ you must of been booking it.
Im 40 hours on playthrough one and only just on my way to the castle.
maxed out 2 covenants and pretty sure i still havent found every secret before the castle.
In fact i know ive missed a boss.
I have a question about the Bonfire Aesthetic. When you use it, what exactly does it effect? The whole zone, or the area of the bonfire where there were fog gates? I was curious to ask because I might want to refight some bosses, but I want to make sure I don't waste it.
If someone can help explain to me its range, that would be swell.

Yah, that guy. That would be fine advice if I wasn't melee only. The boss absolutely destroys me and I have barely anytime to attack due to the speed of my weapon. I mean the first half is fine but he becomes nearly impossible to damage once he splits. I'm gonna try to tank the spells with either Havel's shield or the mirror shield (which says it deflects spells?). The fight is incredibly difficult as melee only and I could tell it would be a much easier fight as a caster but I won't fall to that level.
So Yah if anyone has suggestions for where to farm effigies that would be great.
TheFarm the dogs in Lost Bastille, I believe it's called. The area before the three sentry bosses.
Make sure you put on a gold serpent ring and merchant cap if you have them. They drop pretty frequently.
so are servers down now?
What bug is that?About 60h in (had to restart due to the "no MP" bug that has yet to be patched), and I'm on the last of the four Old Ones. But I'm a real sightseer and grinder. I hate missing things.
Im trying to killAncient Dragon, which is a bitch in itself. It really seems like its luck which way he breathes fire when he goes up in the air.
Anyway, since all his attacks kill me in one shot I might as well use the red tearstone ring.
Problem is I don't have any item that drains my health. You guys come across any I could safely/easily use to get myself down to 20% hp?
Best tactic I've seen is to stay a fair distance in front of him so he does the forward fire breath attack, run in and hit his foot a few times then get back in front of him. Takes forever but his flying attack can be unavoidable if he is too close to the edge so not worth the risk of triggering it.

Gyrm greatshield yo. You can block his fire with it. Makes the fight easy as.

Can you even block the flying attack with that if you are facing the right way?
Heh, yeah,Ah, nice title change. I've got Vengarl's helmet, I find it goes nicely with my knight armor. I wonder whenhis body will show up to be fought. No need to tell me though, I'll find it eventually.
The bug in his brain that compelled him to join the hardcore covenant at the start, probably. I just went "no thanks" and turned away, though I guess I should've joined then immediately abandoned. Eh, it can be done whenever. What bug is that?
Im dreading getting to the castle and then getting that bug that can happen there.

I can dig that, and it's weird because that video game feel isn't necessarily bad, but is made more obviously unintentional. It's not like the game screams out features or systems. If anything, Dark Souls should feel more videogamey due to its more obvious structuring. But the aimlessness of Dark Souls 2 exposes some weird design imbalances and obtuseness that I'm not sure works in favour.
The game as a whole just seems to be one big hodge podge of bosses and areas, all of which I'm really enjoying, but together weirdly aimless and disjointed compared to Dark Souls.
I tried to explain it to my housemate and probably did a bad job, as he couldn't fathom why a more open world would be worse than the structure of Dark Souls (he has no interest in playing either, mind you), but I thought Dark Souls did a fantastic job of giving you the illusion of an open world with the freedom to explore yet just the right amount of non-intrusive guidance to steer you towards your goals. You could still piss off and explore multiple areas, try bosses in non-sequential order, and even tackle optional challenges, but the difficulty scaled pretty nicely with your progression and there was a good sense of "That area is really hard, so I know if I return to it later I can conquer it, but I CAN try and do it now", whereas Dark Souls 2 is more "HERE IS A BIG WORLD FILLED WITH BOSSES. GO KILL 'EM, CHAMP". The "get big souls" objective is also far more abstract and meaningless for so much of the game than ring the bells, fill the vessel, conquer.
So, finally here
My first post in this thread and.... well.... I'm totally disappointed.
I was under media blackout, so please (if you can and want) answer my questions, if possible:
1. What the hell happened with the animations of the character and the monsters?
First time they have used motion cap and it sucks ass.
Sometimes, it looks like the main character and the monsters are gliding on rails or ice. Absolutely horrible!
The animations in DS1 were great. Why ruining it with this crappy mo-cap work?
I already saw it in the first trailers (and talked about it, here, on Neogaf) and somebody here said "they know about it and they're gonna fix it in the end". Welp.... didn't happen
2. Why in the hell would you remove the "kick"?
In DS1, I could kick the enemies away from me, etc. Now you can only "push" them, which sucks. WTF is this shit? Why removing it?
3. What happened with the combat errrr..... hit detection in DS2?
Hitting an enemy with my sword feels and looks like I'm hitting him with a small/thin iron stick. There is absolutely no weight behind it. I don't "feel" it anymore.
It was perfect in DS1.
4. Main issue: WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE RUMBLE?
I mean.... where is it? Played for 20 hours now and my controller rumbled twice! Two times, in 20 hours!!! What happened here? Checked the options/settings, etc. --> Rumble should be there, but it isn't. What's going on here?
Am I the only one here?
Playing it for some time now and I'm getting used to it (to all the downgraded/removed stuff, which was better in DS1), but... what the hell?!?! ;_;
By the way, does the bonfire ascetic do anything significant at Majula? Or is it just for Death Piggies 2: Electric Boogaloo?

How do I get the TMNT shell I saw in a video? Is it just a rare drop from the turtle guards or is it something else?
Also, never actually used a BA. Does it permanently make the area NG+, or just for one go?

The one where he goes in the air and breathe fire all over the place? Yeah. The shield needs to be upgraded and you need about 20 endurance (which is what I had when I beat him).
It's the only attack I ever had to block though, I'm not sure you can block his head on fire breathing attack but it's so easy to avoid (just run towards him) that it shouldn't be a problem.
cool thanks-
Yup, that is what I have been trying. (8 tries so far) but he eventually does the fly up into the air and most of the time I can run away but then like you said if he is too close to the edge its a done deal.
My question still stands: are there any items that drain my health steadily so I can get myself to under 20% HP easily to trigger the red tearstone ring?
