DirectX 12 GDC 2014 presentation: Low-Level Access, DX11 GPUs, Holiday 2015

I'm sure Forza has run on PCs for years (while they developed it), so unless there is a specific confirmation of a PC version I'm not expecting anything here...

Re all the support for older cards, I was just about to type something v similar to this:

Josh Walrath: We currently don't know what changes in Direct3D will be brought to the table, all we are seeing here is how they are changing the software stack to more efficiently use modern GPUs. This does not mean that all current DX11 hardware will fully support the DX12 specification when it comes to D3D, Direct Compute, etc

So what's the chance that MS will sit on the PC build of Forza and never release it to us?

so....Penello saying Microsoft created DX and all that shit sort of redeemed?
Not to say they'll get better performance than PS4 still, but it helps alleviate the gap?

On the PC side I'm hella hyped though, this is fantastic!
Pretty happy I maintained some hope MS would do something about DX :D
May this be the beginning of a new, better era, for all, and we shall prosper in increased efficiency for all!

Yea, doubt it. Considering MS' track record with porting their 1st party Xbox stuff.

Didn't they say 4 man months? I believe that means it took a team of 4 one month. I could be wrong though...

It can mean one man for four months, or 4 men for one month, or 2 men for two months, or 80 men for one day... ;)

No. 4 man months means it took the equivalent of one man working 4 months to get it ported.

Or a week if you had a team of 15 people.

sure, but it means a much shorter transition than before, when the amount of effort that went into coding for a flashy new API was hampered by adoption rates.

hardware adoption rates weren't the problem for the dx9-10 transition, it was everyone sticking with windows xp since nobody wanted vista

now dx12 will be tied to windows 8.1 and we'll probably see a similar effect, though possibly not as bad

Ryan Shrout: By the time they ship, 50% of all PC gamers will be DX12 capable.

Ryan Shrout: Ouch, targeting Holiday 2015 games.
