Please don't laugh at me for asking this: Would the newest 15-inch rMBP running in Bootcamp be able to handle any VR?

Nope. It will handle some VR. There are going to be VR experiences that will tax even high end PCs.
Technolust is a pretty impressive (and somewhat demanding) Rift demo too. Highly recommended for any interested parties.

no it's not porn.
Thanks for the response. That's disappointing, but what I expected. But I'm a little confused by "Nope" and "It will handle some VR".
This is a no-go for me then, sadly. I wonder how many people will even be able to use the Rift?
It's funny, my brain actually figured out stereovision a couple of years back (long story about how that works) and when it happened, I'd look at a balloon and be blown away. It was amazing. So yeah, I'm looking forward to all of that, and am already planning on starting over.

No way CV1 comes out earlier than December '14.
even just considering how little time that gives developers to get to grips with DK2, I think any time this year is overly optimistic at this point.
Anybody know the state of Oculus support for A-10C Warthog?
Is there actually record of anyone from Oculus saying 2015 for the proper release? A few sites have said probably not this year, but I've never seen an actual quote.
From the sound of it, CV1 isn't that far off. It's apparently specced and designed, they're just waiting on parts. There are 1440p smartphone displays in the pipeline from several manufacturers. What else could they be waiting on? Everything else sounds like it's ready to go.
DK1 sold 60,000 units with a suboptimal hardware and an even shorter supply of demos. There's easily enough market to sell a hundred thousand finalized units on the back of early-adopter enthusiasts and eager developers. Plus EVE Valkyrie is still claiming a 2014 release.I don't think it's every been specifically or 'officially' announced. But July at the EARLIEST for DK2 doesn't give developers that much time at all if it's releasing just a couple months after. It might, but with what software? You can't release the CV1 with 10 year old games and some demos. There has to be one or two really compelling titles that will cause fence-sitters to spring for $400-1000 (assuming upgrades + Rift).
Even if the hardware is up to spec, they have to line up manufacturing for it and see what demand is outside of DK1 and DK2.
It's feeling 'close' but there is still design testing, refinement, etc ... (which I'm sure is going on right now). But I think it's still about a year from release.

I guess I'm just trying to be optimistic in the face of the notion that I was offline all of yesterday and if I try to order a DK2 now, it'll be like November before I get it.
Judging by that simulator it looks like 4k will be the "sweet spot". At least for me.
Yeah. I'd hope for some details to firm up for E3. And an announcement ahead of the first batch of DK2 shipments might mean a bunch of cancellations from consumer lookie-loos which will free up units for real developers who will actually use those few extra months.Yeah, I can see both ways. But with the manufacturing and such I just don't see it. Right off the DK2 they'd have to go into production practically and if shipments are staggered (not as much) like DK1, you're going to see a couple months after July before everybody receives their DK2. That's only a couple months from a holiday/late year release.
This really all stems (heh) on how fast production is and how many of DK2 they sold. I could see 100k sold for CV1 but they probably want more than just what their beta units would sell. So refining and getting some software to REALLY sell it should be #1.
I imagine we'll get an official release date around June, right before DK2's ship.
Just got done playing Half Life 2. I can't believe how amazing that game is, even on DK1! After an hour, I start to forget that I'm playing a game. It's an unbelievable experience in VR!
First thing I'm gonna try on DK2!
As I said earlier in the thread, I don't think the resolution is particularly accurate, since it can't accurately know your monitor's physical pixel size or your distance from the screen. The persistence / low-persistence simulation is really well done. Exaggerated a bit of course.Saw this Oculus resolution simulator: http://vr.mkeblx.net/oculus-sim/
Can somebody with experience with the DK1/2 verify the accuracy?
Yeah, HL2 is great, particularly for just being a small retroactive enhancement to a non-VR game. (Of course, most of the HL2 design principles already fit VR well)Just got done playing Half Life 2. I fully expect CV1 to be 1440p and CV2 (probably a 2016-2017 release) to be 4K.
Is HL2 really that good? I've never played the game. Like ever.

And bought. Can't wait. My Dev Kit 1 is ready to retire.
Just play it in 1080p and it will be a very good indicator.Okay so if I am playing an Oculus game right now without the Oculus and its rendering the two scenes already, is the FPS im seeing a pretty good indicator of what I will get on the DK2?

If you're running it at 1080p, yes. That's exactly the performance you'll get.
The one with the dedicated 750M, yes. You'll be able to try many OR demos in 720p and some in 1080p as well. In the office here we run OR on a 5850 machine and I've been generally happy with the results with various demos. Please don't laugh at me for asking this: Would the newest 15-inch rMBP running in Bootcamp be able to handle any VR?
Back then it was the best game of all time IMO.Is HL2 really that good? I've never played the game. Like ever.

Oh fuck it, I pulled the trigger.
Alright, I have to tone down my hype. It's just a waiting game at this point. Man, July is SO FAR away.

VR is tempting, what GPU would be needed to play AAA games in VR, I would only be willing to upgrade my GPU, is a 4670k CPU and 8GB RAM sufficient.
Keeping it?
