Trying again.

I am a dex/str bandit (sl70ish) but want to try some magic, how much int do I need for a semi good spell and what is that spell?

It panned out kinda weird for me, and I didn't entirely grasp what happened 'til I was already dead.
I let the torch guy live since he didn't attack and there were a bunch of messages saying "friend" on the ground in the room, but otherwise I didn't pay much attention to him. I cleared out the room with the witches and zombies then trotted back to the bonfire and lit a torch of my own. Carried it into the room and Agdayne gave me a warning to put my torch out, so I did. Went up the stairs and started talking to him and everything was fine.

Meanwhilst, unbeknownst to me, the torch guy had slowly been trotting after me. He wandered into the room and as soon as he came up the stairs Agdayne went all "I warned you about torches, yo!" and attacked, while his whole horde of guards came up from behind and speared the shit outta me. I was all like "It's not my fault! I don't even know that guy!" but they totes didn't care. They were still aggro when I came back so I headed to Cromwell and got my ludicrously expensive confession on and then they were chill.

So basically Agdayne warns you if you're carrying a torch when you enter the room and goes aggro if you bring a light source of any sort up onto his little platform. I don't think putting the torch out once he's mad would fix anything because as soon as you show him the torch he starts acting like you just used it to burn his dog to death, and I'm not sure what he does if you pick a fight with his guards and I wasn't about to try because I was pretty much walking on eggshells around him from that point onward, the touchy bastard.
LOL damn. Well that was very informative, cheers. I'll make sure to
always murder that torch dude from now on. I left him be, I was lucky he got stuck between pillars or something and didn't follow me. O_o

You didn't read my last sentence...I'd rather die than have the off chance of accidentally smacking a chest more than once. As I've come to realize dieing is of little consequence when you have 2 rings of protection, 1 ring of soul protection, and a ring of binding to back you up.

I did. It's just.. not that hard to only press the button once :p Not something I'm worried about accidentally doing. I also think you have to hit the chests 3 times for them to break?

So I can't beat the first boss in
Iron Keep
.

I'm lvl 74, any boss I can sunbro farm to lvl up a little ?

Try the lost sinner, I was getting tons of action there at that level

Aldia's Keep spoiler question:

So I killed that assassin guy. I originally said yes to him just to see if he'd give me neat stuff for taking on his contracts, but the first guy he asked me to kill is Gilligan. Gilligan. Also known as the guy who sells me an unlimited supply of Aromatic Ooze. So I said fuck you to the assassin guy and offed him. Does he end up being meaningful in any way?

I think we all know the true best emote is the channeler's trident dance.

I love busting that out in co-op after killing a boss. It's the ultimate victory dance.
You don't have to kill the guy you mentioned above. You just need to
purchase the ladder miniature from him and give it to the assassin. He will assume you killed him for it.

Yet the design choice that caters to one group provides a better fuller world, while the other is, well what we have here. I do realize how selfish it is for me to want others to play the games like I play the games, but the reality is that it is a change of design that differs between the two that isn't as simple as "well if you don't like the warp, don't use it". Not that you made that claim.

I also feel the need to once again point out that I love this game and am just nitpicking on what I feel is worse from the last one. A bad souls game is still better then most of everything else that is out there.
Personally, i'm not sure if they designed the world around warps. The reason why i'm not sure about this is because warping is possible in DS1 as well. Eventhough this option isnt available from the start, FROM Software could easily have made the Lordvessel (the item that allows you to warp) available from the start in Dark Souls 1, yet the design of the world would have been the same.

I understand that you prefer the world design in Dark Souls 1, no problem about that of course, i just wanted to say that i dont think that the warping is the reason for the different world design in Dark Souls 2 :)

Just left a message for the first time:

This.

Which one is that? I forgot.

Sorry to ask again but, when did you try it on your female toon? The wiki says this:

"WARNING: As of patch V1.01, and calibration 1.03, using the soul vessel to change your stats has an adverse affect of defaulting back to male body if playing as female. (Gender bending coffin boat in tutorial area may fix this)"

Can you tell me if you tried using the vessel post 1.02? Thanks.

The one where
you use both thumbs to point at yourself

The interconnected criticism is weird because the game isnt going for that. Its going for that Dark/Demons mix. In Demons you could wrap to every area/bonfire from the nexus, but it never detracted from the game. This game is also going for more variety than Demons, with a more loosly/spokelike world. Kind of like Dark Souls as well. I think both of those games did those things better though, but I'm not knocking ths for not being like that.

Please read my other followup posts and responses to other people's comments, as they directly relate to exactly what you just said. I'm done derailing this thread and would like to go back to talking about the gameplay.

I did. I don't think it changes what I said. With designing a world with warp from the beginning like in DkS2, the world design in this game makes sense.

If they wanted to create a world like DkS1, it would be better to give you warp later. Or just make it so you can only warp to certain bonfires.

I prefer the world in DkS1 btw.

So I was 16 hours in with my swordsman taking the game easy and slow, about lvl 43 coming up against the
ruin sentinels
and the
gargoyles
and
the lost sinner
. Between the 3 of them I probably died about 60-70 times, lost all my human effigies and nearly threw my controller at the screen I was getting so pissed. I was fed up with my squishy dex build and decided to restart the game as a warrior, and freaking tank out and beat the crap out of those bosses. Maybe I will return to my swordsman in a while but I need a better build for my first run through.

Question on str./dex/tank build. Will the drangleic sword serve me throughout the game if I update my stats for it? Is the bastard sword or the claymore better?

I dont know what the hell is my problem with The
Pursuer. He was the only boss I had to summon help. After that, I had little to no problem with almost all the boss battles (not counting Smelter Demon) and yet here I am again, trying to beat him in the Iron Keep and I just cant. It sucks because its an easy fight, but I dunno... I cant lol

Then we are in complete and total agreement.

No, the best emote is turning into a god damn horse head statue after being summoned and just "running" around away from your attacker. Someone did that to me in iron keep pvp and I just lost my shit. Was about to jump into the lava to give him the kill when he did it himself.

Just wait till NG+...

People, where do you get the Old Mirrah Greatsword?
Lucatiel Questline? I know she uses it.
How are you guys enjoying the Halbred in this game? Worth upgrading?
So many options though...the base halberd is solid, but with twin blades now, and more variations you may want to hold off a bit...there are not many upgrade materials around til late in the playthrough.
We posting our characters now?

Cool! I already posted this stuff so sorry to anyone seeing the links twice, but the thread moves so fast I thought I would throw it up again:

45 sec. slideshow (from photoshoot in Majula)

1 minute or 2 minute armour "unveiling" vid coming out of the coffin, she was previously male and hollow lol!

Me and my bud were having a ball with that, I would be dueling a guy and he would just approach them with the giant bull head just to scare them. It was hilarious.

Having just cleared
Drangleic Castle
last night, I am coming to the conclusion I like the progression of this game a bit more than Dark Souls 1 and more than Demon's Souls. DS1 is pretty infamous for building up to Anor Londo then having a bit of a sketchy last 3rd with cleaning up the Lord Souls. DS2 is practically the inverse order of things, and it's better for it regardless of the different world structure. On the other hand I'm glad the two games are rather different in that structure - DS2 for all its improvements doesn't obsolete DS1, just as DS1 didn't obsolete Demon's Souls.

Dark Souls 2 would be painful without warping. In fact several sections even early on would be impossible. It's a necessary crutch.

At this point, I think the concern over warping was misplaced because it was assumed the game would basically be just like Dark Souls but with warping from the get go.

But individual paths branching from the hub are like Demon's Souls. Getting to a bonfire, usually, marks conquest of a major section, usually a boss. Like Demon's, you choose to press on or retreat home to regroup. I can't even call it a crutch.

Do you not dodge a lot in your play style? Like every single one of his attacks can be avoided by dodging towards his shield side. If you are use to blocking everything or staying at range I can see how he is hard, but for me he was the first boss that I just put away the shield for and kept circling. Just stay to his shield side since his impale seems to hit even if it looks like it shouldn't on the other side.

Well, finally beat him. I think complaining about a boss on GAF helps you beat him afterwards lol

Anyways, yeah, not looking forward to see him in NG+....

yeah, thats my problem. Im pro-shield. In DS1 it was easier to tank bosses thanks to the better Chloranty ring that made stamina regen faster. Here it seems like it takes forever to regen up.

I agree with everything you said, I just love that interconnected world, but I also love the nexus. This is a great mix of the two games.

sad no
pursuer armor
;_; Also does the vessel reset stats to original or relocate every single point so that you can have 0 in a stat?

Can someone confirm: the first big guy in TLB didn't have any bandages the first time through, right?

Also, what's up with the Gold-Dreadlocks guy in TSW?

Just left a message for the first time:
How do you leave multiple messages withiin the same message?!?!?!?I have been trying to do this since launch with zero success?

Cool, didn't know you were doing a let's play

You and Soulhof log in and off continuously in the vids!!!LOL One time I read about something you posted here, about something I was doing,(oh yeah the X button press in the Copse Cave....) then logged in, I PRESSED X, and you logged in SIMULTANEOUSLY....totally coincidental but LOL'd notwithstanding.

Yeah I am a new channel just started for this game, and not really into it for cash, just trying it out for fun as I talk for a living and dont find it particularly difficult to ramble on while I play. ;) My style is a mix between Kay Plays (I try to to be comprehensive) but I am more loose, less worried about minor spoilers and like good jokes like Jeff Green more, although I am not likely as funny, and much much younger (lie, I was alive before video games existed as well). As you know, I am not the best player in the world or anything, but only 2 episodes so far where appreciation of schadenfreude is required to watch the whole vid....I prolly should edit. HIghlight of the series was killing the Pursuer Boss after only a few tries solo with no shield or ballistas, I got destroyed my first couple times solo and pulled off a pretty good fight...was intense:

Check it though if you like. (winning fight @14:10)

The gold haired one can combo if the hit connects. And yeah i think the big guy always had bandages.

Cracked Red Eye Orbs are extremely rare in NG. They drop and are found in only a very few locations. I think I had like 5 after beating the game--so people aren't bothering. Most of the PvP seems to be going down in NG+ as you can get the invading orbs more reliably--which is a shame.
isn't there another item used in order to invade? And not a one-use item.

You want to know what's funny? I found a way to kill him during that 2nd fight of his at Iron Keep without him even being "spawned". Prob a bug, as I'm sure it wasn't intended

How to do it:
With the pyromancy spell "Flame Swathe", if you aim it at dead center over the place where he spawns, it will hit him. For me it took 6 shots (with last one when he fully spawned, so i could get the drop) This can be done just before the doorway near the bonfire, on the main 1st floor. It requires you to be in an exact position, so it's hard to always hit it. but if you can line it up, his health will start to go down.
:lol

Still not understanding Belfry. There's teh first area I can get to, there's a bell to ring, and it loops around. Where is this further area that people talk about? Someone told me to use al ockstone, but I don't even see a place for one...

Uh, for starters which one are you in?

What's the best way for a Sorcerer to deal with crowds? Specifically the
Ambush area with the basilisk.
I did it once, but it wasn't pretty.

Am I forced to get
Pyromancy spells
?

Soul Vortex is good for that, Homing Soulmass can help thing out crowds quickly, and Soul Greatsword is the best AoE sorcery. You might not be far enough along to have found those though.

Is the boss fight any different on NG+? I killed him before the bossfight (when he drops from the sky) on my second play through and he didn't seem hard at all.
That version of the fight no. But later on...
2 Pursuers at once!

I bought the official guide, it's actually pretty damn good. I'm worried about spoiling things though, but so far it seems to be very well made.

Fellow paladins/clerics, what do you guys recommend as a replacement/backup weapon for the mace? I just picked up the
Dragonslayer axe
and the claymore, but I'm curious which is better after upgrades and infusing with lightning.

I haven't found a suitable replacement yet for a str/faith build. Maybe try the Great Club?

Goddamn A

ragon
. This is just so disheartening.
Sometimes I get perfect runs, dodging all the flames properly, then I keep doing the same thing and somehow the flame gets me. WTF? I always run towards the tip of its tail, always make sure I have enough stamina for a long sprint, and so on. And most times it works, but sometimes it doesn't and then I die. I can't explain why the fucking fire gets me or not. And even when I survive it, he tends to land on me as I get back up anyway. And this one time the fire got me while Flash Sweat was active, so I took half damage, but it knocked me off the cliff. ASDFGDHFDGHJFGJFGHES

Could someone give me an idea on this:

Am stuck on the place were you have to jump a whole, and there a bunch of undead, after couple of seconds, there bell rings, and those legless, sword+shield people (i believe 5-6 of them are present) are casting some hardcore magic and pyro. I tried everything, but there just isn't anything i can do.

They are after the ghosts in the wall, and the two dudes with shield weapons.

Any tips for the treasure under the wooden bridge in Huntsman Corpse? Starting to piss me off.

Destroy the stone statues/coffin-things where the swordsman come out from, then they won't respawn. Also make sure you kill the asshole ringing the bell all the time.
