I got to say that getting new weapons kinda sucks in this game because they are guaranteed to be worse than what you already have. You have to get everything you need to upgrade them and even then your not always sure that the weapon will be better than the peak level sword your using.

It's like that in all of these games, unless you look up the stats. If you're in the late game, upgrading multiple weapons is faster than in the first game.

Any tips for the Lo
st Sinner
on NG+? I've tried a few times with
Lucatiel
but it seems that the boss immediately targets and mauls her to death within a minute. I can't even deal more than 50% damage before
the two phantoms appear, which then start adding shitty pyromancy to the Sinner's already quick attack patterns. Healing becomes almost impossible at that point and the phantoms aren't frail enough to be killed in two or three hits, at least not with my current equipment.
Haven't seen any player summoning signs around either.

So I got an extra cast of Flame Swathe by invading
Belfry Sol
and picking up an item there, no doubt dropped by one of the
dwarf enemies
. I know as a phantom or invader you sometimes pick up lifegems, so I thought that's what it was. Talk about lucky, haha. Even better, this happened on my mage build.
Oh man, might have to spend some time farming these guys...

I find it weird that a Ricard's Rapier dropped for me from an enemy. Thought it was a unique weapon from that chest.

Did it frop from a spider? Those things drop the weirdest things (Zweihanders, Mastodon Greatswords, Mail Breakers..) so it seems like a bug.
Is it just me or is the Mace overpowered in this game? I feel like I'm doing major damage and it's only +3

The Mace does more damage than it should theoretically do compared to other weapons, it's insane. Also seems like something that should/will get patched.

I doubt it. You can't put a summon sign inside
the Velstadt boss room and putting one outside of it will only summon you for Velstadt. If the host tries to go through the Velstadt fog door (which always appears regardless of whether the host has killed the boss or not) and they've already beaten him, it'll just kick you out.
Oh, I didn't know V
elstadt (can't ever spell it right)'s fog re-appeared.
Interesting.

Shout now that makes worried to upgrade it if they nerf it. My mace/club combo is lethal.

The spiders also drop them. I've got about ten of them.

Ah yes, I think it was the spiders.

Are they special? I got like a few of them from drops.

It was a unique weapon dropped from an enemy in the first game.

Ricard's is the brand name, I guess.

Haha, maybe he got famous.

yea, I think so too.

I've read a couple of times here that Carhillion needs 10 INT to talk to you, but I have 8 and he talks to me fine, so I assume you only need 8.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Titanite isn't too rare in the end and there was never anything announced about the damage being too high. It's just that some bosses can be stunlocked with dual-weilding maces/clubs and maces do more damage than clubs even though they shouldn't. That doesn't seem intentional.

Upgrade those things and abuse them as long as you can. :D

Ah ok, I was just repeating what others have said. He wouldn't talk to my 7-int dex, but on my mage (with 20+ int) he did obviously. So 8 is the minimum, confirmed.

Remember that it has to be base INT. Buffs from rings or equipment don't count.

Yea :(. Still bitter that I died and heard the girl scream as the long as loading started up. I was like "oh no what happened." I thought I'd just flip the switch and get to the bonfire.

My BF nearly took her out when the poison guys came out - thankfully he didn't. Now that I know that can happen, I make a point to reload the area to get her to move.

I was cheap in that section and
drew out the poison guys first one by one by shooting arrows through their doors on the second floor, they all jumped down and all I had to deal with was the frog thing behind the door.

I should try out some more weapon types before I shelf this game. I swapped around a lot until I settled on curved greatswords, still quite a few I didn't play with.

I *hope* next game they make whips actually worth having in the game. I really don't understand the point of some of these weapons.... some just seem to be in the game to illustrate how shitty they can make a weapon. Power stance whips could of had so much promise.

Easily the hardest boss in the entire game. I managed to solo it melee after about 30 tries, but that just requires a ton of patience and luck.

One strategy I've seen is
to equip the Redeye Ring, a shield with high fire resistance (e.g. Gyrm Greatshield) and summon Lucatiel. The Redeye Ring should draw aggro as long as you don't get too far from the Sinner, and the Gyrm Greatshield should absorb any fire damage. At this point, you basically just want to play tank, and let Lucatiel whittle away at his health. Keep your shield up, roll away from his heavier hits, and keep moving. Eventually, Lucatiel will kill the adds, and then you should be able to take the Sinner down pretty easily.

Aldia's Keep is a cool little area.
It's like every terrifying enemy in the game has been captured there for study, but they can all be freed by the trolls. I angered one of the trolls and he freed the big monsters from Sinner's Reach and a newt. Terrifying. The place is missing the bellyflop monsters though.

YES! rank two in rat covenant! Ring here i come only 15 more fools to smoke!
Btw i found out pate and his nemesis fighting, i killed them both for the evilz did i missed anything good down the line?

The quest is supposed to give you a key and the armor or weapon of the one who you helped, but I only got the key. Seems like one of those quests that you have to do exactly in order. The fight is the end of the questline though.

Are there any weapon types with good powerstance animations? I tried dualing Maces, but it never really felt more effective than two handing a single mace.

I think it bugged on me.
I saved Pate, but he would only keep saying over and over "I don't know why he attacked me" or some such. Never gave me anything else so I killed him too.

Falcion heavy attack is really nice... the light attack is okay. Fist weapons light attack is nice, the heavy is all kinds of stupid.

Everything else I tested was pretty meh to down right terrible. Both whips and ultragreatswords were unbelievably boring. Come on... could of done so much.

Yea, my friend did that after claiming that he was "playing blind" (which I am doing). Part of me hates that I'm playing without guides but on the other hand I sorta wish I had known that stuff before playing because it sucks to have an NPC die. I just don't want to ruin the surprise and I suppose when it finally comes out on PC or next gen and I decide to buy it, I'll have the upper hand.

Anybody got any suggestions for S rank dexterity scaling melee weapon? Upgraded of course. I'm currently on a Scimitar +10, and it only scales to A. My dexterity is at 40 ATM, I don't want to invest more in as I read there's a cap.

Who the hell thought the Dragon Shrine boss was a fun battle? Worst boss in the game BY FAR...
Regardless of what I do, I can't find a foolproof way of avoiding the AoE attack. I run into the arena, dodge the first fire blast, hit him twice, then run straight behind him (along his tail). I might dodge the first AoE, but then he lands close to an edge, blocking of pretty much everything and most likely killing me with the second AoE attack.

Anyone? :(

I played half-blind and made some stupid mistakes (late-games spoilers)
freeing Navlaan.. :/
, but at least I had that experience once and can play the PC version with that knowledge.

DO NOT run behind or under him, run AWAY from him as soon as he starts his animation. You can somewhat manipulate his AI. After you dodged the first AOE, look him straight in the face for a second and then run at him. He'll most likely do a normal fire breath and you can attack his foot 2-3 times. Then stand diagonally a few feet away from his face away and run away as soon as he does anything, most likely his AOE. You should be far away from it if it works. Rinse, repeat. Sometimes he does something else and you have to adapt, but that's how I did it.

The only S-rank I found so far is the
blacksteel katana
, it's a drop from enemies in
the Iron Keep. It has the same moveset as the iaito in Dark Souls 1, pretty good. Gotta farm though... I got lucky and it dropped without me explicitly farming for it.

DEX weapons seem kinda weak in comparison with STR ones, tried upgraded Falchion, Black Steel Katana and Manslayer.
My Mace +10 wrecked everything - its fast, does more damage, poise breaks easily and has a good amount of durability.

I think im going back to a STR/FTH Build for my NG+ run.

I really think this game encourages a mix between str/dex.... between diminishing returns and the lack of any good min/maxing swords. Hell even at S rank the damage boost you get say from... 40 doesn't seem that high.... imbueing weapons with elements seems to pull more damage.

If he flies straight up in the air run completly to the wall. If he hangs on the wall to breath run to the other side of the area. The single fireball shouldn´t be a problem.
Hug one of his leg when he is on the ground, if he stomps roll away and give him one hit after that.

Thanks, I came much further with this now actually.
I managed to bait him to use his fire blast a couple of times, but the last time he used the AoE attack twice in a row, which killed me :(
At least I'm getting somewhere now!

I managed to defeat the final boss last night with help. I still haven't killed
Darklurker
,
King Vendrick
or the
Ancient Dragon
, but I think I'm going to move on to NG+. Other than the optional bosses, is there anything I should do before starting NG+?

For my first playthrough, I went with a heavy armor build, but I don't think it's very viable on most bosses. It just seems like so many of them require you to dodge attacks. Even with a ton of armor, poise, resists and health, you still get murdered in a couple of hits from a lot of bosses, so it seems almost pointless to have all that armor. I had to summon in help for most of the boss fights.

For my next playthrough, I'm thinking about either switching to an agile melee build or just playing a caster. I have a ton of spells that look like a lot of fun.

Anyone have recommendations for interesting builds including gear/stat breakdowns?

Yeah he screwed me often if he used his AOE two times in a row. If you're facing him, just make sure you always have enough room behind you to be able to run away asap. Good luck!

Holy crap just had the most bad a** souls moment ever. So I have been progressing steadily with my new character, trying out
the pursuer
here and there and getting my butt handed to me. So I upgrade to lvl 28 and decide I want to give him a few tries... Get butt kicked handily again. I think of new weapons I can try out and realize I can dual wield power stance my mace and my club. Thinking I have no shot without a shield I thought I would give it a try. I freaking beat the crap out of that jerk with my clubs. He only got two attempts on me because I just kept staggering him with my L2 dual power move. My clubs were unstoppable. One of best feelings ever when I smacked the crap out of him. I freaking love this game.

Get the Stone Ring for more poise damage and it will be even better.
Kill the Ogre at Things Betwixt.
