Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I take back almost everything I said about the game being linear.

After getting to The Gulch and beating the boss there, I was wandering through Majula and
found an itty bitty path before the town. I used a fragrant branch on a stone woman expecting to get a ring, and now I've begun what might be the longest path yet.
In other words, it's clear that I've been going down multiple, separate, equal paths leading to places that might progress the story and might not, but I'm having a great time.

This thread moves so fast that it's mainly the same questions being asked and answered in spoiler tags over and over again. We need some sort of FAQ first post.

Make one. I switch between enchanted and magic long swords, I got so used to the fire long sword and didn't want to put any more points into STR/DEX, so I just stuck with the long sword. Was tempted by the magic mace you find around though.

If its good enough for Gandalf, its good enough for the rest of you magic types.

Bunch o' Questions:

1. What are the good Faith spells for a STR/FTH user? All I have so far is Lightning Spear

2. Where can I find better chimes? All I have is the starting one you can find in Majula

3. Boss weapons that are good for STR/FTH?

4. For the Bell Covenant/getting Chunks, is it an easy process to go through? All I really want is a bunch of chunks but I haven't even gone through the area yet to get to the covenant. Is it worth the effort?

5. If I'm using lightning weapons, am I better pumping STR or FTH? Also, any general stat advice on where to go from here:

VIG 15
END 20
VIT 20
ATN 13 (? I think, I know I have two slots)
STR 30
DEX 13
ADP 20
INT 3
FTH 26ish?

anyone got anything on any of these?

Is there any shield in this game that boosts stamina recovery like the Grass Crest Shield from DS1?

I want to do a Zweihander build (probably best damage for its speed) 2 hander build.

how the hell do I even beat this? the giants hit through my shield like paper and there's giant one hit ko fireballs that have a 500 mile radius hitting the battle area every 5 seconds

this is just ridiculous

Run past the first 2 giants, then the last one is pretty easy, just avoid the big ass sword.

Fight is 2 ez as a caster. 30 seconds it took me to down him.

It's ridiculous how much easier that fight is as a caster. I was hoping to beat him as a melee, but was worried about running out of effigies. Because of that, I just used a soul vessel to get a ton of intellect and proceeded to beat the boss on the first attempt after that.

Wow, the
Clear Bluestone Ring+2
the Sk
ellington Lords
drop on NG+ is amazing, went from
~90 to ~200 casting speed.

They're pretty much perfectly functional as full-on bow replacements now that they're aim-able just like bows. They take longer to reload between firings (by about half a second by my testing) but you can shoot them one-handed in case you get anxious when you haven't got a shield between you and the enemy. They've got generally shorter ranges (though comparable to the lowest-range bows) but in practice there's not a crippling difference between, say, a 35 range bow and a 45-50 range one. They'll both do the job. Bolts cost more than arrows, but ammo's not really all that onerous of a cost even going the crossbow route.

The main disadvantage crossbows have is that there don't seem to be any poison bolts, whereas poison arrows are both plentiful and awesome. The main advantage crossbows have is that they've got goddamn Avelyn.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking into using them to further mix up my paladin build.

total shot in the dark here but you guys seem like cool people so I'm hoping you'll be able to help me out.

ever since the patch last week I haven't been able to connect to the game servers and have been stuck playing in offline mode. not a huge deal as I typically enjoy solo-ing boss fights - however I think I've hit a roadblock with the ruin sentinels.

it's really strange, the ps3 is online, I'm able to connect to the playstation store just fine but the game for whatever reason simply will not connect. I did the network test and I'm on nat type 2 and everything else says that it's connected. so what gives???

Sounds similar to what I was talking about. I have no idea wtf is going on, but it's really frustrating cause I do want to play with others. =/

There are two, I believe.

Do you, by any chance, remember the names? Sorry to bother :/, I'm just trying to find them online, so I can find them in-game.

Also, have we figured out what the soft cap for Endurance giving you Stamina is? I remember in DS1 it stopped at 40, and I know that in this game you stop getting 2 points of Stamina after you've gone over 20.

What worked for me personally is going to the top of the platform to the left of him.

Up there, he only has two attack options and both are easy to dodge.

Slumbering Dragon Shield and a Rose shield I forget the name of
(You get it in a Giant Memory).

that'd be great if I didn't get cooked like steak trying to reach the boss giant

i don't know if it is the same issues but i have also been having connection problems. Whenever i start the game it always fails to connect to servers or fails calibration. So far i have just kept selecting the go online option on the title screen until it finally connects me. Usually just after a couple of tries.

My PS3 is dying and I can't play this anymore :( sometimes it will load up fine but if I die once it will take 5-10 mins to load or sometimes it will never load.

For those who have used the Ascetic to kill bosses on NG+ (and beyond) modes, what are the easiest ones with the best rewards? For example, I currently wear Life Ring, cloranthy ring, and ring of blades. Are there upgraded version of any of those from NG+ bosses?

Lost Sinner if you are still on NG. The red phantoms don't spawn. Gets you Flame Weapon

You can get a Ring of Blades+1 without using ab ascetic, just go back to Smelter's Room.

Giant Lord fight? LOL, that was me last night for awhile.
Just stay to your right and run straight to him. Try not to heal until you get under him and then do so after avoiding a stomp. From there he is cake and you don't have to worry about the other two giants and the mortar blasts.

They have notes on the right side - there are 3 with stamina regen.

Looks like the Blossom Kite Shield is the lightest, at 4.0 pounds. (Slumbering Dragon being 4.5 and Insolent being 6.0), if they don't make a difference in Stamina recovery speed, that's probably what I'll be rolling with, since I'll be two handing.

Just started a second character, a Sorceror. Thinking of going to Heide's first because I prefer the area more. What equipment should I use on the outset and where can I find more/good spells?

Might have made a mistake killing every NPC before entering NG+. I'm getting ganked by the blue covenant pretty much every five minutes, lol.

Got another invasion at Shrine of Amana. I'm 4 for 4 on wins. Guy didn't stand a chance against my Sunlight Spear. Took 2 hits and bam, dead. :)

Oh sorry, I thought you might not want the locations spoiled.

There's 3, turns out.

I'm going to mess around for a bit before hoping into NG+, but I want to try to run a sorcerer on a new character as well. Just for a change of pace.

I pulled it after the Devs warned me

Man, keeping the NPCs alive at a bossfight can be a challenge in itself. I'm not on
The Lost Sinner NG+ now (actually NG++ since i used a Bonfire Aestic in that area unfortunately, not thinking that it would affect the boss), and i try to keep Lucatiel alive, but even with another human player, that isnt easy (i need to do that for a trophy). Especially not with the two pyromancers spawning. Do these spawn all the time by the way, or do they go away like normal enemies after 10 kills or so?

I can also imagine that spawning Bernhart at the Freja fight will be pretty difficult. I imagine that the NPC would suck at avoiding the laser beam.

What is everyone's choice of element upgrade?

Wondering if I should just go raw instead of using elements after finding out how it fucks up the scaling on my weapons. I have A listed weapons and they fall back to D and E in certain upgrades.....

lol

You can do the same boss fight 3 times to get it.

finally did it. where to now? DS?

Make sure you exhaust Gavlan's dialogue in No Man's Wharf. Then he will move to Harvest Valley, where you should do the same. From there you will find him in Doors of Pharros, where he will stay and will have an unlimited supply.

You sir are a legend. Cheers! :)

So, my situation - I'm rocking a high dex/high endurance character. Mostly running around with a full Drangelic set, a Flame Longsword+8 and a Lightning Great Club+9. I've put literally no souls into anything magic related and nothing towards Adaptability.

Smashing dudes in the face is fun, but I need more. Contemplating using a Soul Vessel to try to mix things up. Right now my STR is at 31 and my DEX is around 20. Vitality is around 26, along with Endurance.

Any suggestions on how I should reallocate? I'd like to still be able to swing hard, but also want to be lighter and dabble in some magic use.
