Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Awesome news about always turning human after successful co-op.

My concern is that I'll miss out on the zeitgeist of the second game by the time I've finished the first. I game maybe 1-2 hours a day at best and at that rate, it could be a good while before I can get around to the second title.
I know what you mean, Souls games really have legs though people play them for years, DS1 was still super active right up to the release of DS2, it probably still is, Demon's Souls is still active even.

You may as well play DS1 if you already have it. :)

i know we can approach the game from many angles but what is the suggested progression in terms of difficulty? I managed to struggle through the Ruin Sentinels/Lost Bastille and later realized I missed out on Heide's Tower of Flame and ended up beating the Dragonrider with ease.

For the early game areas, this is what I've found in terms of difficulty:
Forest of Giants, Heide's tower, Cathedral of Blue, No Man's Wharf, Huntsman's copse, Harvest Valley, Earthen Peak, either of Lost Bastille/Shaded Woods/Grave of Saints/Undead Purgatory
and then pretty much up to choice. Old souls:
Black Gulch or Sinner's Rise first of the old souls, Freja last.

Zone Spoiler:
Forest of Sleeping Giants > Bastille > Belfry Luna > Sinner's Rise > Heide's Tower of Flame > No Man's Wharf > Backside of Bastille > Huntsman's Copse > Undead Purgatory > Harvest Valley > Earthen Peak > Iron Keep > Shaded Woods > Shaded Ruins > Doors of Pharos > Brightstone Cove Tseldora > Drangleic Castle > Shrine of Amana > Undead Crypt > Aldia's Keep > Dragon Aerie > Dragon Shrine > Memories > Throne of Want

this is crazy talk if you are doing difficulty order. If you have strike weapons (mace) Heide's should be the first place you go. My current game I'm in
The Iron Keep
without having beaten the
Sentinels
, and believe me
Huntsman's Copse / Harvest Valley / Earthen Peak
was way more fun and difficulty appropriate going there at much lower level than I did on my first character. The bosses actually have some challenge instead of being ridiculously easy.

I fear of them shutting down the servers for DS1 and Demons Souls eventually. A while back they said they were gonna shut down the demons souls ones but I think an uproar happened and they held off. It'll be a sad day indeed when the servers go quiet. The worst part of online games that require dedicated servers, especially on consoles. PC can at least get fan patches/mod to get some kind of work around.

Neo VS
Twin
Pursuer fight on NG+++++ done with fists only, no damage. This was an absolutely BRUTAL fight, all their attacks would 1 shot me on that difficulty and the bare fist moveset is complete shit. No shield either, all dodging and parrying, just finding an opening to attack is a process in itself.

I went to town on them though, I think it's worth a watch :)

You have amazing skills, well done.

Dark 1 doesn't need servers as it's peer to peer. That's the trade off for all the lagstabs.

Demon's servers were taken over by Sony, I think, it was a PS+ game and it's probably secure for years.

what do you guys think is a good level for ng+? i beat the game at level 133. after 80 hours. i was doing lots of sunbroing and general exploring, and a bit of pvp.

150 good enough?

Interesting, I had a hellish time with them in my first game with the flame long sword. I have put them off for a while in this run (I even opened the way to bypass them entirely) but I plan on fighting them solo when I tackle them this time.

You can
flip between his fire breaths or block them. Once you are in melee range you just have to dodge him like a champ and you can finish him. Easy peasy boss.

By the way, if bone of order works only 'bans' and not human effigy burns than that is straight up bullshit. One is supposed to be tactical the other is a punishment. Not the other way around :-|

And no, didn't join the Champion Covenant. I already know its effects.
I think the Bone of Order is ment to be more of a "warning sign" (or what i shall call it). From what i've seen, there is nothing in the game that clearly tells you that disconnecting while being connected to another player will give some kind of punishment. Maybe it says something in the game manual or something though.

I learned it the hard way. I got kinda scared when i got that "banned" message. If that had been a permanent thing, it would have ruined my overall experience with the game. Luckily they give you a 2nd chance with the Bone of Order, and i havnt disconnected since then, even if i still find being randomly invaded annoying at times.

I think it would be nice if you could reverse the Effigy burning thing though, i agree.

I think I'm going to use Ascetic just to make enemies harder.
Just wondering, is there any need to do this? Besides making the game more challenging of course :)

Yeah, anything between 120-150 should be fine. But you get so many souls on NG+ and beyond that you can easily level to 200+ on them

It respawns all the enemys/bosses and items, so you can collect extra stuff without going to NG+

It effectively ups the level to an additonal + status. It also resets the level, so if you've killed enemies enough that they've stopped respawning it'll reset back. So it's good if you're fishing for a certain item drop or an item drop that only drops on ng+ and further.

Me doing PVP:

Lol, i kinda feel like this too. From the maybe 15 PVP i've done, i think i've won only three or four of them.

Yeah, thats true. I was thinking more in terms of doing this before going NG+. I should have specified that, sorry :)

I wanna pick up last two Estus Shards before NG+ but have no idea where could they be!
Just mentioning three of them:
There is one in the Lost Woods where the lizard spew fires at you in the narrow hallway. There is on in Lost Bastille very close to the bonfire outside of McDuff. Before the Magus boss, there is a hidden wall in that room
.

Lagstabs are still a thing yes, I didn't say they weren't, but they are less common. I am doing a lot of co-op, as I did in Dark Souls, and I am seeing way less obvious lag in 2 than I did in 1.

Color me psycho then, I thought the last third of the game had some of coolest areas and bosses of the entire game, maybe series.

That's what the consensus seems to be and if it's true then this one will certainly be on par with DS1 for me. Possibly 2 games from the same series (in the same generation) making my top 15 games of all time. Crazy.

Does anybody have any advice for fighting L
icia of Lindelt
? This is freakin' stupid, I've beat the game, most of the optional bosses, but I can't kill this stupid
NPC.
They just constantly heal when I get them down, and I've found it absolutely impossible to get away from their stupid area magic burst. I've tried using my poison blades and it still doesn't matter because they just spam heal again and again and again - even when I'm in the middle of smacking them!

There's a hex that silences magic, I believe, but you probably won't have access to that unless you're a dedicated caster. You could spend to soul vessels to get the proper stats and then remove them afterwards, I guess.

She's a right asshole. My only advice is to two-hand your weapon and stagger her to death. Maybe try guard break criticals if you can't land a backstab,

I'm not sure how I want to continue leveling up at this point.

I'm SL 67
STR 30
VGR 24
END 24

And everything else is pretty much base.

I'm using a Battle Axe +5, Drangleic armor set, and the Twin Dragon great shield.

I'm kinda wanting to go for a strength build obviously, heavy armor, massive weapon and shield, kind of a walking tank, since that's the only build I didn't do in DS1.

I'm wondering if I should start pumping VIT so I can at least keep my equip load under 100%, or start putting points in ADP.

Thoughts?

I respeced my hex caster slightly.

13ADP -> 8ADP
25ATT -> 30ATT
Fire Longsword + 10 -> Dark Longsword +10
And I got the Southern Ritual Band +2 by using an ascetic and killing
Najka again
. I highly recommend this as a great use of an ascetic if you're a caster. The boss is still easy, you get a ton of souls, and the ring gives you three spell slots!

I don't miss my points in ADP at all. I have nearly the same agility I did before (since ATT also increases agility, just not as much), just slightly less poise and resistances.
I've been trying not to spoil myself about bosses and items very much, but I did this on my sorcerer specifically to get those extra 3 slots and its amazing. Now I'm rocking like 10 spells at a time in any given area lol

VIT and like 20 ADP would seem like a good idea. If you really just want to tank, Vigor doesn't really stop being worth it until 50, so go nuts with that.

Have you tried using any of the Northern Band rings? The HP penalty seems nasty, but I imagine it could be worth it with all the low cast spells you get later on.

Is there an equivalent to Dark souls 1's havel ring ? (carry more armor ?) where can I find it ?

Lastly,is it me or does FROM removed the stamina penalty from big armors in dks2 ?

I was using the northern band for a while. I stopped using it because it doesn't stack extra casts with the hexer's hood, so I just use that instead.
