Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

The phantoms will luckily stop spawning after 10 times or so, like other in-game enemies also does.
that's nice. the easiest dungeon to try is the one in Shaded Ruins, I guess?

the boss should be easy with some high level pyromancies that I have, but still I get one shotted (or almost) by those magic attacks. I'd say the hardest boss after the Ancient Dragon.

well, it would help keep your humanity when you die, but it breaks. Only 3000 to fix it. Cheap price in terms of keeping your humanity
Ah, right, i almost forgot about that ring. I didnt know that you kept your humanity if you died using that ring. Thanks for the tip :) And luckily the next patch to the game would grant humanity if a co-op mission is successfully completed.

I dont understand why being invaded isnt optional. I have to rant a bit about it after what happened earlier tonight.

You got really lucky with invasions, I only got invaded twice in 70 hours...Hopefully your story is a sign that PVP is kicking into gear at lower levels.

BTW do we know the upwards and downwards SL limits for invasions and co-op yet?

He's optional. But if you want to kill him, it's better to stay underneath him the whole time.

Tried that and I can't get it to work. I could kill him in 2-3 fire storms, but I just cannot get a good position on him. He'll just have to stay alive I guess.

Is there any reason I need to kill the RRA? He's a cheap piece of shit. I have no problem with the 4 minions, one arrow and firestorm take care of them. RRA though can kill me in 2 hits regardless of my shield, my defense, whatever and I can't get away from him fast enough to dodge. If he's optional, then he's staying optional.

I'm kind of astounded people are having so much trouble with him. When you walk into the room, creep forward until you get the attention of his adds. When they get close, a few hits from a sweeping weapon should finish them off. When it's just you and the boss, just run under him and attack his hind legs. If he leaps away, do exactly the same thing and run under him. If you're under his body, he can't do shit to you, and you can just wail away at his back legs. Beyond that - and this is important - DON'T LOCK ON TO HIM. EVER. It'll screw you up big time.

You can attract his minions without aggro'ing him?

lol, I just got him. The key was not sniping the rat minion so far back. Took you advice and crept up until the minions started to run at my. Everything was dead after the 3rd firestorm.

So how hard is it to get the Alonne captain gear to drop?
I have multiple captain gear, but not sure if I have completed the set. I think I did, but that is because I've been wearing jesters hat or travellers hat since it became available to me. I only take those things off during boss fights lol.

Invasions are common in NG+ as there is no soul memory and you can buy infinite cracked orbs.

Minus the buying part from that. It's 10k souls an orb, not worth it. You get it from duels en masse in the pyramid scheme whose name is the Brotherhood of blood.

You rack up souls so quickly in NG+ so 10k per orb is not a problem in my experience. You should not need to level any more anyway. I'm just playing through a zone or two, co-op a bit, gain 200k+ souls for buying orbs. I mean, I'm enjoying playing NG+ at the same time.

Finally managed to kill the E
xecutioner's Chariot
. I've been beaten to a pulp, but managed to get through.

Had some of the most frustrating co-op moments ever during those fights. Will stay around to help other players tomorrow, now that I'm basically a professional after playing it so much. :P

Except you actively ask for help when you summon, not being invaded. I got sick of the shit back in DaS1 trying to get from the top of blighttown down to Quelaag's lair, so finally I wisened up and yanked every time they tried that shit. Couldn't care less if it pissed them off.

So? Like I said, the fact that you can request people to join you to make the game less dangerous for yourself is the trade-off for the potential of being invaded. Hell, in Dark Souls II, I got invaded a couple of times when I wasn't even human because I was being punished by that stupid covenant.

Does it quit the game when one yanks their internet cable? I always saw it as gratifying when someone did that during the numerous times I invaded in DSII because it means I had successfully frustrated them, which is really my only goal when invading.

We are, like, totally different kind of players.

:P

I dont quite remember how the Shaded Ruins one is, but i think the one in
Drangleic Castle is the easiest. It only has 4 phantoms, and the dark portal is just a few seconds away from the bonfire.

I agree that this boss is one of the hardest in the game.

I'm at soul level 240 or something, maybe that has something to do with it. Same here, i hardly got invaded in my first playthrough, but then i played most of the game as hollow. I'm not sure if that have any effect on being invaded or not.

I'm also curious how the match making stuff works. I dont know if there is any solid info on this unfortunately.

if you dont like invasions you are playing the wrong game. ;)
Hehe, well, personally i dont think the game would be any worse at all if invading were optional :) I played through Demon's Souls and Dark Souls mostly in offline mode and i love those games. I played through Dark Souls 2 alone in my first playthrough too, so i could have played the game offline there too and still enjoy it a lot. Its just that in Dark Souls 2 i want to try out co-op more after i have beaten the game the first time, and i dont particurally like to get randomly invaded when i want to do something else. But i dont really have much of a choice. I kinda understand why, its most likely to keep this game mechanic active (which probably also explains why you cant easily go in offline mode in-game without disconnecting from PSN or Xbox Live). And i dont really expect it to change in Dark Souls 3 and further, but i just had to speak my mind about it =) Doing co-op and then getting invaded can be fun at times i think, but its the 1vs1 PvP that annoys me the most.

I think a lot of people are still clearing achievements, so there doesn't seem to be any clear SL limits. I did a lot of Bell PvP at SL50, and after NG I did a lot of Dragon dueling at SL150.
I don't know if that thing about SL or SM restrictions being removed in NG+, but I have a SL150 with 4.7 mil SM there and I can barely find any Bell action.

I'm certain that's it's removed for NG+. A friend and I were about 1 million SM off in NG+ and were able to summon each other.

Just beat the game - love how
NG+ is in the bonfire option.
Can you guys recommend somethings for clean up besides bosses.

I think you can still get invaded even if you're hollow (and then you cant summon other people for help), but maybe there is a less change to get invaded when you are hollow in the game. I think it can be fun to do 2vs1 or 3vs1 (where my team is the majority, makes it harder for the invader to achieve his/her goal), but i dont really like the 1vs1 fights.

No, if you disconnect during an invasion (or even outside an invasion as well for that matter), you will just get a message on the screen that says that the game is now running in offline mode. The game continue like normal, just in offline mode. There is no reset or quitting or anything like that. You must quit the game back to the main menu if you want to get the game in online mode though.

Reconstituted my STR build into a DEX build. Not really digging it, seems like there's no reason to go with DEX when you get much more damage from strength builds.

Washing Pole is ballet as fuck, and I've been rocking that over the black steel katana (even with 40 DEX, I barely get anything out of it). The really low durability sucks though.

I'm missing my great club, and actually want to go back and maybe do dual zweihanders (can you even do that in NG?) :(

Shaded Woods spoilers...
Holy crap, this trap:

dark_souls_shaded_woods_1.jpg

Falling into a pit of basilisks was one of the more panic-inducing moments I've had so far in this game. Somehow managed to pop a Triclops Snake Troches and survive and then all my equipment broke on the way out of that cave.

Extinct pigs for cracked red eye orbs, and old knights for cracked blue eye orbs. Pay off sins, and
check Freja's boss room for a memory.

Hm, well if you can get invaded while being hollow, it sure isn't in the conventional way because I don't think anyone I've ever invaded using Cracked Red Eye Orbs was a hollow. Probably other stuff like that covenant that punishes sinners.

And thanks for the d/c info. It's still enough of a hassle to make it worth it, heh.

Shaded Woods spoilers...

Thinking back on it, I guess I should have been more scared of what happened there than I was, but I just rolled away and did my magic thing. There've been some scary moments, though, usually via near OHKOs from enemies that were off-camera.

Only way you will know if the person you invade is hollow is if they aren't wearing armor. They'll still show a full health bar regardless if they really are at 50% or not. If you DC a lot I think you have a less likely coop match rate and higher invasion rate. Only way to reset it is to use that item that you start with, forgot the name.

Sins transfer over? Interesting. And what are extinct pigs again?

Sins are confusing and I'm pretty sure they don't reset. Extinct the pigs in Majula and Brightstone

Giving it a second though, i cant say 100% sure that its possible to get invaded while being hollow, but i'm pretty sure that it happened to me a few times when i was hollow. Unfortunately i dont remember a very specific scene in the game, so i have to just say "pretty sure" and not "100% sure". I might be wrong.

No problem :) I would guess that many people who disconnect while being invaded does it to minimize the risk of losing their souls. It coud be worth it a few times, but if someone disconnect too many times during invasions (and maybe during co-op too), its actually possible to get banned from doing co-op. The game keeps track of how many times that you disconnect during invasions. You do get a warning before anything is permanent though (if the ban is permanent in the end that is, maybe its just temporary).

He's saying kills the pigs until extinction. Not sure if he's talking about the ones in tseldora or elsewhere.

Did I get sin for joining the bell covenant? I wanted to farm some chunks lol.

That item is called Bone of Order :)

Speaking of this item, does anyone know if its possible to get more than one Bone of Order? I read on another forum, and someone said that if you used the Bone of Order and get banned again, a new Bone of Order will spawn at the portal/padeo at the very begining of the game where you start. Does anyone know if this is true?

i'm SL 150, SM almost 4 mil and can't see any summon signs around sinners in ng+. pretty sad. i'm sure i could find plenty in ng.
Have you tried looking outside the bonfire? If i put my summon sign there, i almost always get spawen within 30 seconds or so. Maybe more people are putting their summon sign around that bonfire.

Beat it.

. Love the game, but that shitty
final boss fight
soured the game for me. Felt like a second-to-last boss primer. I didn't have any familiarity with the lore because this is my first Souls game, but I was really left with a "huh, that's it?" Regardless of whatever reasons there are for her being there, it was a lame boss through and through.

And yes, I know what her role is.

Yeah, the last boss felt like the penultimate one. But then the game just ends. Slightly disappointing.

Just beat that lame ass boss dragonrider. Easiest boss ever...and I used the same "stay behind him" strategy as I did on the giants. So far dark souls one is far superior, but I still have a lot of game left.

I've been invaded A LOT while hollow. I think you don't notice it as much because of the Life protection ring nowadays though.
