MGSV: Ground Zeroes - Spoilers Thread - #TeamBowie

r.e: strangelove

when skullface says "the scientist was our way in" i have a feeling he may not be directly talking about huey.

it may be possible strangelove used her influence on huey to sway him on the inspection.

I raised the possibility of Strangelove being the other Cipher agent within Mother Base earlier in the thread (she'd know when ZEKE was ready, she'd have influence over Huey, and she left MB shortly before the attack) and people called me crazy.

Then I come back a few days later to be greeted with Chico = Quiet.

FWIW, in 1984 Otocon would be 4 so it'll be interesting to see if the little nipper makes a cameo, possibly alongside a 12 year old Solid Snake, aka Dave. It could be like Muppet Babies, but with Metal Gear cast members. ;)

They need tiny bodies and giant heads. :D

For people thinking Paz offering Chico sex is "sexist". Remember that women can be pedophiles too.

Im sort of joking but the double standard irks me.

That actually makes sense too. It would give Huey motivation, and an out that would allow his survival.

Clever girl too. It would mean that even a legitimate UN inspection would have ended in failure with someone on the outside knowing where Huey would have stored ZEKE and the nuclear warhead (I imagine she gave him that idea too, for reasons I'll mention shortly), and the televised declaration of peace would have backfired horribly.

Now you have somebody that knows the location of the nuclear weapon and ZEKE, both ripe for the picking by Cipher, and Strangelove herself is a possible person to be working on the AI functions that would eventually become the Patriots AI; a sensible evolution, an AI designed to act in making military nuclear strike decisions that are considered too much for the average human decision making, into an AI designed to control media and handle decisions on how society should progress with the same distrust for human decisions.

Just started playing. Quick question about one of the tapes I just picked up. The Pow tape with Skull Face talking about the factory that burned down, is that the same factory that was blown up with the mini nuke (Davey Crockett) or is my memory from that game bad?

All this fighting in this thread... Errr, Kojima is playing us like a DAMNED FIDDLE.

That would be almost impossible, when it comes to raw characterization and development. Chico had a standard birth, has a "normal" family. Ocelot's parents are on some hype shit. His mother is cited as the woman that ended World War 2 and his father has mind/spiritual powers. He's been a double/triple agent, has had Liquid inside of him, has incredible hand and eye coordination, has multiple ties to different military groups.

Chico's past thus far has been tame. I don't see Chico having similar motivations or aspirations as Ocelot.

It would also be impossible since Ocelot is shown in the trailer.

Please no. I'm all for seeing returning characters, but we don't need to see every character from every MGS game ever in a prequel. Especially together.

I enjoyed Campbell in Portable Ops because it was believable to see the origins of a CO that knew Big Boss well and their relationship, but Huey Emmerich was stretching it.

Huey sticks out like a sore thumb. I really disliked that a lot.

that's basically mgs theory threads in a nutshell

Huey's suicide in the pool was one of the darker implications of the series along with the stuff with Big Boss/Solidus and child soldiers. I'm kind of glad he is in if only because he fits the whole "Sins of the Father" theme even if it is a silly coincidence that he and Big Boss interacted.

Riddle me this non believers, why has most of the cast for Phantom Pain has been shown except for Chico? Huey, Ocelot, Skull Face, Kaz, young Psycho Mantis, Code Talker, young Liquid, yet no Chico? Chico is one of main side characters in Peace Walker and plays a huge part in Ground Zeroes, why not show a older Chico? Its not as if Chico being alive is some sort of plot twist in of itself, nor was he a character most MGS fans cared about. A 20/21 year old Chico being in the Phantom Pain wouldn't be a stretch at all.

Chico being some sort of Gray Fox, cyborg freak would make sense. Making him a messed up cyborg would make his reveal in Phantom Pain more powerful. BUT, Kojima would probably show Chico off if he was in this state. Raiden's shitty transformation in MGS4 was shown way before release, Kaz is shown armless and legless, broken and disfigured.

So, either Chico is in some of really fucked up state and still has to be shown, or he went through a transformation and has become Quiet. Chico was in the Phantom Pain trailers all along.

Eh we havent seen Amanda or Strangelove either. Of course I'm not saying that you're wrong, but using the fact we havent seen Chico in Phantom Pain as a clue for this...

I cannot comprehend.

Here's what I think:
I think it is Strangelove who was the "scientist" that was XOF's way in. But Huey takes the blame because he doesn't want them to hurt her if he tells them she was behind it, he's "standing his ground" which is what Strangelove told Huey to do at the end of Peace Walker. But I think he'll eventually spit it out which is how he'll come to be on our side.

Also Strangelove goes where the research is. She was originally on Coldman's side to create Peace Walker, then she defected to MSF to help create Zeke, so maybe she defected to Cipher to create what she tells Huey is "a weapon to surpass Metal Gear" which Ocelot gets out of him.

I think it really fits. I don't see Huey as that type, you could say he was maybe captured and tortured into it but I don't think it makes sense as someone would know something was up. I think he was tricked somehow by Strangelove.

I always wondered how he killed himself in a pool (not knowing how to swim + taking some drugs + alcohol ?) but I guess the handicap explains some things.

Poor Huey, after being tortured in TPP and believing he has found true love (again), his son sleeps with his new wife.
Did someone the Emmerich family built their house on a native American graveyard ?

I don't think everyone has been introduced yet. The E3 trailer mostly focused on Afghanistan missions instead of Africa which is the main part of the game, so there's probably more people left to introduce including some cameos. I mean it would be a massive missed opportunity if Gray Fox and Zero weren't in the game somehow.

Knowing how Huey ends up, seeing him will always be weird to me. Every time I see him have a moment of happiness I'm instantly reminded he kills himself and almost kills his daughter.

Probably an allusion/throwback to the Peace Walker incident.

But what was the Peace Walker incident

*pulls up a chair*

And Chico grows up to be Quiet? i suppose it's feasible... mgs technology is more advanced than irl. Just hope kojima doesn't make it seem like he had a sex change solely as a result of traumatic experiences.

But what was the Peace Walker incident
I think it's more accurate to say within that particular context that the peace symbol was a reminder of what Paz claimed to represent.

Just because I'm insane and love coming up with stuff Kojima didn't, it might just be a way of saying that the peace sign was just a symbol, an image, but the bomb was a reflection of what she truly was: an agent working from within

I have my own theory that Skullface wants to achieve peace, or something along those lines. The fact that the incident where MSF was destroyed was attributed to crazy, greedy mercenaries makes me thing he wanted to get a point out to the world.

Plus, the V on Paz (which could be the peace sign), the peace sign on the bomb, and possible even Huey collaborating (who has a big intention of reaching peace), it all tells me that Skullface doesn't want a repetition of what happened to him younger.

Do you remember Major Zero's first codename in Snake Eater? It was Major Tom.

Wasn't that a reference to The Great Escape?

You're not insane. Kojima puts out enough material for you to draw those allusions. Those who want to stick to shallow interpretations can, but never be ashamed for finding something in his work. Most likely others will agree with you.

i'll say this about the quiet = chico theories, they're a lot more interesting than the punished snake is grey fox or decoy octopus shit.

even if they will turn out to be total bullshit.

i still maintain there's something in the ground zeroes ending we aren't seeing. or maybe we are seeing it but without any context.

i want to see some new phantom pain media before i go into total blackout, something old fashioned like screens.

Considering peace walker was my first MGS game, hearing that Heuy commited suicide because Otacon "was seduced by heuys second wife" in MGS 2 HD pissed me off to no end.

Normally all this dumb speculation about MGS (Snake is Grey Fox/Decoy Octopus!) just ticks me off but the Chico/Quiet stuff is hilarious, so keep it up.

I had experienced that the other way. I thought "why does this guy look and sound like Otacon, wait we're retcononing this guy as Otacon's dad?".

That wasn't a retcon though.

It's pretty silly that Otacon's dad and Snake's genetic dad ended having a relationship somewhat similar to Otacon and Snake. That's like 1 in a trillion odds. But, you know, poetry. Rhymes.
