  • Game Arts is the main team for preliminary development stage

My takes on Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Schedule
  • Sakurai probably started on brainstorming phase in Jan 2012, and finalized his roster plan and design document in March 2012.
  • Namco Bandai and Sora, LTD probably started working on the games somwhen during April or May 2012, which would explain that they have completed prototype in their hands during June 2012.

Predictions: Yoshi right at the beginning, with some gameplay footage (like we got for Sonic, iirc).

About 15 minutes showing a couple of matches, (one in a new mode) and discussing overarching game changes and a new item or two as they come up.

At the end, of course a nicely done trailer showing a newcomer. I'm guessing Pac-man; third party characters usually get shown off early for promotional purposes.

Concluded with a confirmation that the games are coming 'this holiday season'.

Major disappointment: no new names.

Point was : yes, they can have several directs, as long as it's not a standard Nintendo Direct (which means game-specific Direct are fine).

***

Because they want to highlight the differences here to make both worth purchasing, rather than hiding them?

I think For 3DS/WiiU are bad titles though, but I don't see them throwing those titles away, and, even if they do, I think each version would have its own title, rather than an uniform naming scheme.

Actually, it's two totally different games, though they do share the same gameplay system.

How does it get delayed when we never had a release date, or release window?

Well even if they don't call it a delay, if they announce the game won't be out until 2015 it'll be considered a delay by most as everyone is expecting this game to be out fall 2014

3 new reveals is a stretch but it would be the perfect opportunity to reveal the disappointing Mii and Pac Man combo alongside someone I actually give a damn about.

Really I'll just be fine seeing more footage and details in general, despite the many screenshots shown so far information on various aspects of the games content is still a mystery.

Honestly I do worry about them skipping the regular Direct with this taking its place. I'm actually not that excited for Smash 4, which is mind-boggling as I was hyped to all hell for Brawl. Maybe Brawl did leave that bad of an impression, or Smash 4 is not the evolution that Mario Kart 8 is, to me it is kinda Brawl in HD and a bit prettier. :(

Right, it's stretch because I think they would save one newcomer for bimonthly direct. We will see what they are going to do this Tuesday. It's exciting.

I really thought the next ND would focus more on MK8, but I'm okay with this. I have to figure that since there hasn't been any character reveal since Diddy Kong from February, this will be a chance to show off a newcomer or two and maybe a veteran

Two predictions for newcomers that would seem logical:

1) Pac-Man (Due to Namco co-developing the game)
2) Someone from The Wonderful 101 (Due to Platinum's relationship with Nintendo)

I hope either one of those is announced during the Direct.

All I need is Snake to be revealed. Everything else will just be icing on the cake.
He's the biggest question mark when it comes to a return if you ask me. I'm really feeling that this will be a bigger blowout then some expect at least for the veteran characters.

Assuming that some newcomers will still be kept under wraps as secret characters along with other events on the way to release that could use an injection of newcomer hype I might suggest that this direct only shows one newcomer and a returning veteran.
After all there's still lots of other SSB stuff to actually show us, things we've only seen in screens so far and such.

I would love Wonder Red or Bayonetta, or both.

We know Pac-Man, Mii, and Palutena are all for sure in, so I suspect the announced newcomer will be one of them. I expect a vet or two in addition to a newcomer announcement though.

Choo choo

Please not Raiden, please not Raiden...

(nothing against his character, but when we're talking third party characters that should be in Nintendo's party fighting franchise, it's not that's he's far down the list, he's not even on the list. By way of comparison, Snake is far down the list).

Actually, it's two totally different games, though they do share the same gameplay system.

It's the same basic engine and characters, but (mostly) different stages and also game modes, if those early interviews from before the development started still mean anything,

Do we know these for sure?

Fuck boarding a hype train, I'm chasing that motherfucker down, fueled by raw hype.

This is the correct answer.

I'm trying to keep my expectations in check (Mii confirmation...), but still...

I just hope this and MK8 yesterday won't be the only info drops we'll get. I still want my Zelda Musou updates!

Well Pac Man and Mii were "leaked" in the same rumour that "leaked" Mega Man, Little Mac, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer before last E3. So far it's 4/6 correct...so those last two are probably in there too. For Mii at least the whole viral campaign of trying to get Reggie in smash that they have been running since late last year is obviously leading to this.

For Palutena there were some leaked images that still haven't been debunked, but even if they aren't legitimate there is no way there isn't at least one new Kid Icarus Uprising character and she makes the most sense. Sakurai also trolled regarding her for like a whole week a month and a half or so ago.

With all that in mind I would say that Mii is 99% for sure in, Pac Man is like 95%, and Palutena is like 80%. I am pulling those numbers out of my ass, but I feel pretty confident about them. Any other potential newcomers are literally complete guesses.

I really do want to see Wonder Red though.

Ah, I see. Well, fuck the Mii, that's dumb, but I could be up for the other two.

My guess, two vets and one new comer. Yoshi, Snake, and Palutena. With new gameplay footage and maybe some details on some of the game modes.

I think Palutena is a given, much more so than Pac-Man. Not that it matters though, both will be in the game anyway. But Wonder Red won't.

Is it true that Hideki Kamiya wrote about this on Twitter but deleted it shortly after?

If so, hype.

It's misunderstanding situation. Smash Fans need to stop taking other people's words as facts. Boss Doggie made mistake and thought that Kamiya retweeted the Direct but it was E3 2012 Wonderful 101 page.

Snake will get his own trailer, like sonic, I assume.

Yoshi, Ness, and Mii. Mii because I have a feeling it will be what sakurai was referring to when he mentioned 'customizing', so it'll require a direct to explain how that works.

I'm hoping for an early summer release date announcement and some uncut gameplay footage. I will probably be disappointed by the actual release date though.

With the Mii, I'm honestly more surprised that it wasn't in SSBB. No way it's not in here. The only thing I wonder is how customizable it is. Will it use moves from popular Mii-using games, like Sports, Play, etc, or will we be able to change its moves (in addition to, of course, its appearance? Probably the former, but a custom Smash character would be pretty cool.

Pac Man just seems like an obvious choice, as both an iconic character from video game history, and a nod to the Bamco collaboration. If he makes it, I'm really curious to see how the design ends up.
