Saw it last night (thank you Regal for showing movies on Thursday nights at 8pm...) and this one is definitely one of the better Marvel films thus far. The fact that it played out more like a spy thriller than TFA did was pretty refreshing actually and it worked quite well.

The opening was great, story was surprisingly strong and the characters were used well - even the supporting characters.

Really enjoyed this one and all the little nods to the characters as well.

I'm just going to see this in IMAX because I want to see it early in the morning before the theater gets packed, and of course the earliest show by an hour is IMAX 3D. I love good 3D, but poor 3D like in IM3 pisses me off. At least it'll have a great sound system.

Got back an hour ago.

Movie was really good. It's definitely among Marvel Studios best. Right up there with IM3, IM1, and Avengers, it had better character moments than all of them too. Only IM1 can compare there. The hand to hand combat for most of the film was great, let us take a moment and remember that shit...........

.....cont.

Winter Soldier was pretty badass, and the third act had so much shit going on and it was all patched together beautifully. I do have a few issues with the film, but nothing too major. One I can mention without giving anything away was the sudden close ups, and shaky cam during some of the more intense action scenes. The editing never felt sloppy during the action, but cutting into those shots didn't help them. Nonetheless, it was a fucking fantastic action movie, and the political thriller element added a lot to the film. Out of all the standalone Marvel films, I think this and IM3 nail the tone they were going for, and do the best job of keeping you interested.

Btw, I was so surprised that most of the people in my theater didn't know that Bucky is the Winter Soldier. Like isn't Sebastian Stan clearly in the posters? Or credits lol. Either way, I'm glad that some of them were surprised by it. A girl behind me was like, "I KNEW IT!" I lol'd.

Since people are giving trailer impressions:
GoTG, lots of laughter
TMNT, "that looked awful" -Group sitting in front of me and my friends
Lucy, no notable reactions that I was aware of
Adam Sandler movie, laughs
I can't remember whatever else they showed.

No X-Men, no Spidey. I head someone mentioning those two movies MIA lol.

No one knows who Sebastian Stan is. Kind of makes the casting perfect, you want the general audience to go "ohhhhh yeah".

Leaving in a few hours for an IMAX 3D showing, I'm so hyped!

Shame the 3D seems to be crappy, but hopefully I won't mind it much.

Just watched it..
Best standalone Marvel film IMO..
Heres how id rank them..
Avengers>CA:TWS>IronMan>Thor2>IronMan3>Thor>IronMan2>CA1

Just got back from a showing here in Austin, TX. Watched it at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Great movie, I'm a CAP fan as well as a fan of military industrial complex politics.

This is a good political action thriller with a superhero in it.

Just saw it, was pretty good. Fight scenes had a lot of promise but were horribly marred by how it was shot... Quite sick of tight quick cuts to hide the actors inability to choreograph. And wobble cam everywhere!

Still enjoyable.

Finally someone keeping it real. A lot of praise as 'best fight scenes...' plague this thread but it was shaky cam and quick cuts. Show me some real damn fighting!!

I enjoyed it still though. But whoever did the choreographed fight scenes for Undisputed 2 and 3 should've did this. That's the real deal.

This was the best Marvel movie yet in my opinion. I didn't like the first Captain America, and coming off the horrid Thor 2 I didn't have much hope, but damn was I pleasantly surprised.

I heard the fight scenes aren't great because it filmed too close and the do these quick cut aways. Is that true?

Uh....take the shades off.

To quote myself!

Just a little grip. It didn't really feel necessary, since most of the action was spot on.

I didn't mind the close ups, I stated it was the shaky cam and quick cuts during the fights that watered them down a bit..

Shaky cam has never really bothered me. For all the complaints about the Bourne films(especially the 3rd) I could barely ever notice it. Didn't notice it at all in WS. Quick cuts are only a problem if they don't flow and end up having a fight make no sense.

That was never a problem in WS.

They had some shaky cam but I think it was intentionally done really well on certain spots. Most of the action is very clear and damn awesome. Cap2 have the best action scenes in the MCU thus far.

I don't understand the complaints about some of the quick cuts or shaky cam.

This is a PG13 movie pushing the boundaries on hand-to-hand combat. The moment they start letting the shot linger on impact, they step over to the "dwelling on pain or injury" which is an automatic 15 here in the UK and probably many other countries. You cannot be serious with The Raid comparisons...

The directors did an amazing job making a great action film within the boundaries of getting worldwide family-friendly rating.

Movie starts in less then 2 hours for me. I'm leaving in about an hour. I have remained pretty nonchalant up to now but am starting to feel pretty damn hyped.

Just saw it. It was really great, and I'd definitely rank it as Marvel's best non-Avengers movie. Very bold and interesting story that shakes up the Marvel universe in exciting new ways. Evans and ScarJo killed it and Mackie was a great new addition too. Actually, the Russos did an excellent job of balancing all of the characters they had on their plate, everybody got their moment and no one felt shortchanged on character development.

Action sequences were ace and easily Marvel's best so far. Only a little shakey cam toward the beginning, but for the most part fights are clear and easy to follow.

The ending and post-credits scenes have me totally hyped for not just Age of Ultron but especially Cap 3. Can't wait to see what happens next.

This is my 3rd favorite superhero film with only Dark Knight and the Avengers ranking higher to me.

It's surpassed Spiderman 2 and Iron Man 1 imo.

Unfortunately, we're still no closer to having Black Panther and ANY type of Wakanda representation in live action.

:/

Thought this movie was really good though.

Nah, Marvel killed it. I said "damn" and winced a couple times during some of the moves. Cap's kicks and knees might as well be a shotgun. They got him down pat no question.

Dat first fight was sooo good. Whenever Cap takes his helmet off and stops using his shield it's game over. That was straight lightwork. lol

Scarjo was awesome too, definitely down for a Black Widow movie. Pretty much everybody was tbh, even the Manu Bennett look-alike. Would have liked to see VanCamp more but that's it.

Great overall movie

This movie will definitely get multiple views from me for sure. Felt like I may have missed a few things. The consensus on GAF is highly positive, wonder how long it'll take for the full 180 to take place.

do they already give away the identity of the winter soldier in any of the trailers/promos?

just curious because i was watching some marvel cinematic universe special on abc the other weekend and they didn't bat an eye with giving away the winter soldiers identity.

I don't think so, I was surprised when they revealed it so nonchalantly to a mass audience in the special.

Just saw it and I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked it a lot. Good story. I couldn't help but think during all fight scenes why don't they just shoot captain America in the legs?
I saw 1 scene after the credit it stay until the very end? We're there any more? And if so what was it?

There's a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. They're actually both important but the former is more substantial.

There should be 2 scenes: a mid-credits scene and then a post-credits scene.

Always happens, doesn't it? LOL. I wonder what will the driving force be this time.

Same as the others. Enthused praise by a lot of people (particularly mentioning it in other threads) and high BO earnings. See most recently: Frozen.

Just got back from seeing it, I was pleasantly surprised. IMO, it definitely, lived up to the hype! I'm looking forward to Captain America 3 a little bit moreso than Age of Ultron... crazy.

Unexciting fight scenes
Bland cinematography
Looks like a TV film
Plot holes
Predictable

Take your pick. It'll most likely be one of those, even if the film contains none of them. We all know the hate for this will boil down to it being a Marvel Studios film.

Fantastic movie. It's my favorite Phase 2 movie so far and in my top five Marvel (both MCU and non-MCU) films (#3). GotG may dethrone it. I'm definitely excited for Cap 3 now after watching The Winter Soldier.

And then, after that, we'll get a series of:

Iron Man 1 > some generally panned movie like Thor or Iron Man 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cap 2

yeah, but WHY DOESN'T ANY OF THE OTHER AVENGERS APPEAR ON THE FILM THO
