You can want Tom Nook and Chrom more than Ridley, that is fine, but I would cut X character so X character can get in seems so odd.

"Cutting characters" to put another character as if there are some slots.

There are slots though. It's called dev time and they have to prioritise characters.

They would prioritise a second AC character over a third FE one.

Like how Mewtwo wasn't in Brawl because he was low priority.

Not that hard to understand.
 
The one time I don't stay up for an update in a looong time they announce a goshdarn fricking DIRECT. That TroubledBat touch, yo!

Best gaming news I could have woke up to, though! Was hype as could be upon finding out (helped some at the gym, as stupid/pathetic as it may sound), but it's odd, now I'm cooled down. Must be that I'm keeping expectations down after the latest Direct, but I'm not OMG DAMN HELL YEAH anymore. However, I'm sure that I'll be hyped as fuck on the day itself. Blow us away, Sakurai!

Oh, and weekend Smash!GAF is gonna be quite something with the prospect of a Direct ahead.

Well that assumes there are time constraints. Why would you think of characters in that scenario? Any character can be in the chopping board if we are going to assume time constraints.

And you have no basis for the second statement. Just assumptions that you're projecting.
 
Do you guys all think we will get a newcomer in the Direct? Hard for me to imagine having a dedicated Smash Direct and not announcing a newcomer.

Well yes I'm talking about my hypothetical roster.

I had two choices left with my 49 spaces.

I chose Tom Nook and Ridley over Chrom.

So much hostility in this thread over other peoples opinions god damn.

Yes, but the approach always will be "We've got enough development time for around X amount of characters, let's see how many we can do until we get close to the deadline", not "we need to have EXACTLY 49.4236 characters!".

How do you know Mewtwo was low priority in Brawl? He was obviously the furthest into development out of all the cut characters. We only assume he was scrapped so they could include Sonic (which is a very likely possibility), but we don't know for sure, nor do we know the reasons why he was cut. This doesn't make Mewtwo a low priority character - quite the contrary, after all, he was considered and even built for the roster.

Would be weird for there not to be one in the Smash-focused Direct when other Directs have had newcomers.

And frankly, it is my fault, I shouldn't have posted like that. I'm just tired of the same arguments being used over and over again through out these threads it just gets to me. Sorry for the posting behaviour.

Again, I was not attacking your opinions. I was just stating that you may want to reconsider how you look at it, but that was before I knew you were talking about your Smash roster list thing.

This is how I've felt since day 1, it's a small detail but I certainly interpreted it that way - perhaps as a secret fighter, but I don't think it'd hurt if he made an appearance, AC has become a very profitable, popular franchise from Nintendo, but Villager's move set already covers what the game is about and represents it perfectly, and I'm sure the devs already had a hard time designing his move set as it is.

Exploit was that 1 veteran_newcomer in direct doesnt = 1 veteran confirmed to return + 1 newcomer revealed

Right!

The fact that he appeared once in the reveal trailer and has been absent ever since... That's very very strange to me. He'll either be an AT or a secret character. AT more likely, maybe, but playable is still possible.
 
Nook is the Vllager's FS. Villager changes into his Nook work clothes and Nook appears and tells him that his next chore is to kill everyone.
