Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

wow. Its going to take me a few more weekends to get through it. :D

Tonight I downed 2 bosses.
Demon of Song
was SUPER difficult for me.
Velstadt, the Royal Aegis
on the other hand I killed first try. The difficulty swings of this game are crazy.

I should have not made the pact to play this game only on stream. Now I must wait until Friday.

I completed the game yesterday (
beat Nashandra
) and I think my in-game clock was at 90 hours. I am already feeling sad thinking about going home from work today and not having anything new in NG to discover (well, I guess I have
Darklurker and Ancient Dragon
, but those are a bit hardcore for my tastes). I think your method of distributing the game time over a longer time period is probably healthy. There is a real trauma to getting to the end of these type of games ... Sometimes I stop playing right before the last boss to have the (fake) promise of something to return to.

My big regret with the game is cheesing some of the more difficult bosses in coop. If I had resisted coop that would probably have extended my playthrough with ten or so hours ... But when you decide to coop there is no way of getting those hours back.

For me it was almost directly the opposite.
Demon of Song
is pretty easy with ranged combat, just needs to
time attacks, when he exposes his skull
.

Started my lvl 1 Deprived run yesterday. Looks like the only weapons I'll be able to use are a dagger and a broken straight sword. Killed Last Giant, Dragonrider and Flexile Sentry so far. This is gonna take a while.

Use an ascetic and fight the bosses on NG+(++++++) level :)

Some of them have new additions to their fights.

Yeah, I guess that is an option, but I think I will try and amp myself up for the PC version instead and do a purist solo run (maybe as a spellcaster (played as a warrior, int = fth = 5) ... but I guess that would trivialize many bosses like coop does) while enjoying the improved graphics.

Anyone got a good character build suggestion for lost sinner (NG+++)? My tank spec finally reached its limit and I can't handle the encounter anymore.

Welp, done with NG, on to NG+ and trophy mop up. Just need the Luca and Benhart + all miracles, pyro, hex, spells.

Faith build still breaks the game tbh,
Darklurker
was trivially easy with 50 faith and the dragon chime. Three Sunlight Spears to the face is all it took.

I didn't know you got put straight into the battle after dropping down the final fog hole, but two flame swathe's and one chaos storm wrecked him.

For those struggling with Vendrick, if you hug his left leg (your right) his horizontal sword wings actually go over your head. No need to dodge them. If he jumps away just roll your way back to him.

Pilgrims of the Dark related question:
How do I repeat the Darklurker fight? I got in there, was surprised, popped of one Hex and then got smoked by some fireballs.

I'm going to guess enter any of the 3 locations and run to the fog hole. The one in Drangleic Castle is probably the easiest to run to and avoid enemies?

Question for INT/Faith builds: how much do you put into Vigor and End? What's an optimal number to get through NG?

So, Sunlight Spear in PVP is pretty absurd, huh? I know it's easy to dodge, but I'm killing people with one hit when I find the oportunity to use it. I'm using a Lightning Claymore+10 and Sunlight Spear and winning about 90% of the invasions. When people try to defend the miracle with a shield it does around 500 of damage.

Really fun to use, but I even got a rage message from one guy.

Finish whichever dungeon you want again.

Thanks guys.

My Hex build has 30 for VIG, END, ATN, STR, FTH and INT. For the Warrior class it adds up perfectly to SL 150. With the Third Dragon Ring I've got more than enough HP and Stamina.

Edit: Actually, that would add up to 149. I've got 1 point in DEX so I can use the Mastodon Greatsword.

The lightning spears are just about the easiest spells to dodge in pvp, so yeah. I only find them useful if people estus or try to run.

You must be over-leveled as hell.
just leveled enough actually. 270 currently. I'm in NG++ and don't really feel over leveled, esp when it comes to PVP. Unlike others, I'm not playing the 150 meta game. I still find the game quite challenging.

Also, yes. I know I'm crazy. Lol

I prob had mine around 20 at end of NG. Now its 40 currently.

Get End up to 20 as close as you can. I prpb had something like 15 or so

That sounds pretty good. I think I'll try respecing my dude in NG+ and see how she fares against the Luca/Bernhardt bosses. If it's easier, I'll try going all the way.

18 is mine. Gives me enough to always be under 30%.

I'll try this out in NG for my second character.

Killed
Darklurker
last night. It took me about 20 tries using a pure melee build. Definitely one of the hardest bosses in the game but the time I beat him I got lucky and somehow stopped him from splitting. He started the animation but I hit him a few times and it stunned him out of it or something. Not sure if that was intentional but I'm not complaining!

I had another run where I got him to split and managed to survive for quite some time and got him down to just a sliver of health. I found an opportunity to strike so I went all out for the win but left him with an infinitesimal amount of health when my stamina ran out. I sat there pounding the attack button just trying to get one last hit in before he had time to get a move off... I managed to get the hit, but somehow his sword attack had already started and he took me down from the grave. There was no anger, only tears.

Really fun boss fight overall. Still not quite O&S level but pretty good nonetheless.

I've been having lots of fun with it. The only downsides are the very low Vitality and Adaptability (6 and 5 respectively), so drinking Estus is slow and I have to rely on multiple rings in order to carry what I want.

I am so glad there are four ring slots in this game. Maybe by Dark Souls 5 we'll be able to use all ten fingers.

I know, but the hosts really like to run to heal. That's when I one shot them. It's also possible to parry or backstab them and use the spear when they're about to get up.

I want WotG, but no way I'm doing the ridiculous requirements to get that. Only buying it in NG++.

They completely deserve getting one shotted then.

WotG is nice, but range is limited. I mainly use it as a backup since they need to be next to you. But sure works out well when you get a hit. Nice to banish an unwanted invader.

I have a few more points than that so I may put them into Vigor/Adapt then. I'm not gonna be doing Hexes much. Are they good?

What SL were you guys going into NG+? I want to make sure I can get summons/be summoned for early on bosses. I'm currently 130.

Also does the covenant you're part of carry over, or do you need to join them again? Considering grinding out some sunlight medals on the last boss if I need to rejoin again in NG+.

At 130 you'll be perfectly fine and covenant ranks/membership carry over.

i was 130. you will see less summon signs in ng+. you will get summoned within seconds though.

thbpt

I still hear the music from Firelink Shrine pop into my head.

You're all hearing it now, aren't ya?
Despite playing multiple characters I never found the Firelink Shrine theme to be that memorable except that that initial sound that comes when you enter the area :O

I did Heide and No Man's Wharf first and arrived to Lost Bastille through the backside...only to discover I don't have a certain key and cannot skip the Ruin Sentinels.

What gives? I am the worst at sequence breaking.

I'd consider that the front entrance and Pursuer way the back way.

Eh? Warp out with a bonfire?

So I got washing pole up to +10 expecting something really great after hearing it's one of the best dex weapons.

It still doesn't beat my blacksteel katana +10 folks. Am I missing something or are you all simply wrong?

70 hours and I still haven't gotten a blacksteel katana from any of the Alonne dudes. I keep getting their damn armor.

Blacksteel Katana is the best if you got enough dexterity. Washing pole has superior range and better damage if you have less than say 38 dexterity.

I think its appeal is supposed to be its range.
