Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

LOL, the rumor.

I am a fan of Pokémon, arguably one of the biggest, but that annoys me :p

Grumpig is the one Pokémon I hate. I don't know why...something about it just irks me.

was it because spoink has the greatest design ever created and grumping couldn't even touch its legacy

I used my photoshop skills to express myself : )

What's this about a delay?

Tweeted job listing for Namco Bandai mentions a programmer needed for Smash Bros (2015).

The bright side if this turns out true is that this means we'll probably have a pretty large character roster. We already know 24 characters, if the game is another year away, we could very well have a 45-50 character roster.

They wouldn't announce a delay unless the had a game to announce with it.
Melee HD with online would cause me to not even care about a delay. But I don't think there'll be a delay honestly, because holy hell would that make the Wii U look worse than it already does.

Either Sakurai screwed up or the game is going to get a big expansion of some sort. We still know nothing about the single player content, after all.

Sakurai always screw ups developing time because he always wants to do more than what is humanly possible.
Having to make 2 versions? Im not surprised if the game releases in 2015. The idea was not very well thought when it was started and now it shows.

I hope the 3ds version is the one delayed
forever, so all the efforts can go into the big version

i have a hard time believing they push this to 2015. Not because i don't think they need the time but they need this game out ASAP, i believe they would cut content first before they push it to 2015.

They wouldn't announce a delay unless the had a game to announce with it.

A delay also would make no sense. The hype of adding Sonic to Brawl might have sold systems and games, and the Wii could afford that delay. What other franchise now could achieve a similar, or even bigger, effect that'd make it worth it to leave Smash Bros for the next year? The delay would only make sense if they could have a comparable big announcement that could make up for leaving the Wii U empty this year, but I don't think there's a character based videogame franchise big enough for that nowadays.

Besides, it was listed as Smash 6.

I would be shocked if it was delayed. Absolutely floored. I mean it's entirely possible and not without precedent, but man, if they missed the target on this game... damn son.

The decision to make two versions was made by Corporate before Sakurai was ever on the project.

Indeed. This is the WiiU's last chance to make an impression.

Even Nintendo isn't foolish enough to squander that.

If the listing really was for an unannounced "Smash Bros 6", it'd make sense to remove it...

Yeah, considering how Nintendo ninjas are, I don't think unintentionally proving the existence of an unannounced game would go well with them.
I'm not really sure how these job listings work, but I do recall Namco did something like this in the past in regards to their then-unannounced F2P games (don't quote me on this.)

Also this bit from Silliconera:
Something to note: While the original recruitment page has apparently been deleted from e-career FA, it doesn’t appear to be fake. Tatsuya Matsumura, a consultant who uploaded the ad, seems to still have all of his other recruitment ads live on the website, which includes career opportunities for other companies such as Square Enix, Capcom, Tecmo Koei, and various mobile developers.

I have a good feeling that whatever this is, it's probably legit. I just wonder what it, well, is.

Sakurai "wanting to give people time to prepare" makes all the more sense now.

He wanted to soften the blow that the game is coming next year.

so why would he announce the delay now? theres still a whole half year left to develop.

It'd make sense if they could get a big addition into the game in a late stage of development, like Sonic in Brawl. So, they'd know that the delay would be necessary from the moment they got the approval to include that franchise into the game. But, like I said above, I don't think there's anything on that level at this point, especially considering the Wii U situation (and even the 3DS too to a point).

I really think that a third unannounced Smash game makes more sense. I mean, if you people are assuming that the 2015 wasn't a misspelling, why would the "6" be one?

The game would have to be in massive, huge trouble for it to be delayed to 2015 now. Like, Pixar-style "Whoops, I just deleted all the work we've done so far on the movie" trouble. That would be more worrying than just not getting the game immediately.

That said, I find it amusing the news story suggests "Oh, maybe Smash 6 is just a typo" but does not consider than 2015 is one. That would make it harder to get clicks, I imagine.

Sakurai is ill, maybe he had to abandon the game development to treat his arm.

He would certainly have to lessen what he does on the game (i.e. personally balancing the game with controllers in his hand), but he's not exactly sitting there coding. This isn't a Matsuno having eye cancer situation, they wouldn't delay a game in to next year at the beginning of Q2 because he needs to keep his arm in a sling.

I would like to warn everyone with the possibility scenario happening tomorrow regard with POTD.

I think we will get normal POTD tomorrow but after the Direct happened then update after Direct would be Wednesday POTD due to fact it's exactly what happened couple of months ago because Direct happened on Friday for Japanese, when we got Direct on Thursday. This time, Direct is on Wednesday for Japanese.

I'm going to bump my quote, so people would prepare for this.

Maybe Smash 6 is the Smash Bros. NFC-(Trading Card) Game they will show @E3
That could be a thing, no?
Would explain the (early) 2015 release date for another Smash

edit: Now that I think of it, it's possible (at least the NFC part) since Smash Bros. Characters are "toys", aren't they? So are Pokémon Rumble U characters.

If we're thinking about spin offs now, I think a 3d action/adventure game with the Smash Bros concept and brand (but not the engine, of course) could be pretty big for Nintendo.

I think, if Smash were delayed to 2015, it would not be a decision or announcement made now.

If it is, it speaks to something really dire going on with development.

I'm going to bump my quote, so people would prepare for this.

Correct. The 'little mac' update occurred 'early' for japan, so it replaced the picture of the day, even though it was evening for us.

That is, unless the direct doesn't have a newcomer and the potd isn't posted early. If we don't get a website update Tue evening, we might still get one Wed, but i dont think anyone will be disappointed we DONT get one.

If Nintendo launches in 2015, I'm not buying the game. I'm not keeping my Wii U. I'm 100% serious. This is literally the only game I want for this [dead] system at this point, and for it to come out this many years later is asinine.

I will wait for further confirmation though.

Good luck selling a machine that nobody wants. If Smash gets delayed until 2015, then Nintendo is literally doomed. What else could possibly revive the Wii U?

Still playing with a full deck of cards. I'm confident we'll see Ridley tomorrow considering the Metroid teaser.

One can dream, right?

Eh, Zelda U?

Couldn't the 2015 thing be....oh I don't know...DLC?

If it's true and it pertains to plans for DLC:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/e3-2013-no-plans-for-smash-bros-dlc-tripping-removed

"I consider my job at this point, and my main responsibility, to make the Wii U and 3DS versions the best and the fullest experience possible. That said, once finished, it's the type of thing we could take into consideration, but for now, you could consider DLC as not being in the cards."

Then they are near finished with Smash and the Direct will reveal it's coming out sooner than expected.

There's just no way they're going to delay Smash again. ; __ ;

I don't think that makes sense. We've seen the game running months ago. Something really "dire" at this point only could happen if the single player side was really ambitious but it ran into a wall, but that doesn't seem likely either with comments about no movies or story focus. I don't see what they could be attempting to do that would result in an unforeseen problem. A late addition, like what happened with Brawl, seems much more plausible for a delay, but I just can't think of any series that would make up for a delay to 2015.

Final Fantasy is in a downwards spiral right now, and something like Call of duty, although very popular, is not really the kind of franchise that would make people pick up a game for its characters.
