Releasing the 3DS version so far ahead of the WiiU version could temper the hunger the WiiU version.

They should have done everything in their power to have Mario Kart 8 ready for last Winter too.

Man, pretty awesome direct. Sakurai's manly voice almost overpowers the translator even when faded haha. At this point Fire Emblem is criminally underrepresented though. Link would be badass with his Hyrule Warriors blue scarf too. Mega Man looks awesome, as expected. I'll probably main him since he looks so fun to play.

At this point Nintendo has probably shown Mega Man more care than Capcom has in the last few years.

We only know that it doesn't have that specific mode. It might have other stuff that they aren't willing to reveal yet. That mode wouldn't work on the WiiU anyways (unless it was online only).

Well, it could have two player local multiplayer (one person on the gamepad, one on the TV) and/or online multiplayer.

This Nintendo Direct delivered, one of the best in a while. I wasn't bored any second of it. It was suprise after surprise and it covered A LOT of new stuff. Iwata should learn from Sakurai's hosting skills on Nintendo Directs hahah.

As nice as it would have been to see Shulk announced today, I really wasn't expecting it. I imagine the next time we get a trailer or new gameplay on the X will be when we see Shulk announced and I'm thinking that will be at E3. Honestly though, I just can't see them not having Shulk in this Smash Bros. Shulk has to be in this!

Has anyone checked to see if there have been any 3D videos put up on the 3DS eShop? I remember the first time I saw the ALBW trailer in 3D my hype went up two fold, so I would love to see this game in motion...you really can't get the actual beauty of a 3DS game without seeing it in 3D.

I'm a little disappointed with this Direct to be honest. I have no clue who Greninja is (even though I'm sure he/she will be fun to play as) and while Charizard looks badass, he's also a downgrade from Pokemon Trainer.

How? Charizard, Squirtle and Ivysaur were all semi-decent in Brawl, yet their main problem was that they were lumped and awkwardly forced together. Transformations were slow, left you vulnerable and were forced upon losing a stock.

Not only this, but let's say you're against a Marth. Squirtle and Ivysaur definitely don't do so great, so your best bet is with Charizard, but... Pokemon Trainer doesn't work like that, because every 2 minutes your Pokemon grows visibly tired, and have drastically reduced power. How to fix this? Switch out to a another Pokemon and recharge, but now you're in a worse matchup. It's a fantastic tribute to Pokemon, but in practise it really doesn't work well.

It's gimmicky, inefficient and forced. A singular character with extra moves and a pure focus is better.

Glad to see some of the lighting from mario kart slowly dripping into smash - let´s hope they use the time to polish things up. I am glad they won´t release it at once. All the hype can be build with the 3DS version and i believe the audience will grow until the release of the Wii U version.

no, if anything as stagelists have shrunk people play on FD more, but even then it's not the most common one (hi Smashville and Battlefield)

I just noticed, Smash Bros has a lot of subtle fingers towards Other M.

• Samus is unable to lose her Varia Suit in the middle of a heated fight.
• Ridley appears as a stage boss in the Pyrosphere, only this time either Samus or Zero-Suit Samus can beat the crap out of him.
• Zero Suit Samus has a completely different design from her Other M incarnation.
• The one design element from Other M, the heels, were turned from a liability to a source of superpowers.
• Dark Samus appears and Metroid Prime is acknowledged.

Even if these aren't intentional, they're hilarious.

I don't see it, the heels are still pretty crappy, and her breast size is ridiculous just like in Other M. The varia suit is from Other M, which I'll admit is the superior version. But it all indicates that official Samus is now Other M Samus.

Nah, this is nonsense. Mario Kart 8 is Wii U's biggest summer game. Releasing Smash so close to it would have been absolute overkill. Christmas 2014 for Smash U is just perfect!

I don't know why people dont think companies can't announce games at e3 and have them release later that year? Nintendo did that with Donkey Kong country returns and even 3d world last year. We'll just see what happens.
