Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

I don't know about Peach, but the previous page noted Zelda was not exempt. But it's not going to be noticeable in gameplay, so it's not anything newsworthy or gamechanging.
It's not like they added loads of cleavage and jiggle physics, it's just a change upward in size. When you're playing the game in 2015 or whenever, you won't even think about it.

Brawl comparison doesn't make much sense. Here's a better comparison:

Also, don't forget Sakurai's quote: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAADRUqFvxcSrIQ
Pic of the day. This dog is huge… Wait, no, the playable characters are small. The Smash Bros. series doesn't always stay true to scale.

That's obviously not her breasts, but some kind of under-armor piece so she doesn't get punched in the tit. Large breasts don't look like that in a spandex/wetsuit/leather/rubber/whatever that is. I personally think her micro waist is more whack. 3DS model seems more realistic.

I'm going through the Direct, looking for new arrangements of themes from Nintendo games. Here's what I've got:

??? (Animal Crossing: New Leaf) (Even less sure, it's in the 3DS stage montage)
Ballad of the Goddess (Skyward Sword)
Rocketbarrel Theme (Donkey Kong Country Returns)
Area 6 (Star Fox) (This one sounds different from the Brawl version to me, though again, not 100% sure)
Fairy Fountain Theme (Zelda series)
Gerudo Valley (Ocarina of Time)
Green Greens (Kirby series)
World Map (Pikmin 2)
Flower Garden (Yoshi's Island)
Comet Observatory (Super Mario Galaxy)
Main Theme (Punch-Out series)
??? (Animal Crossing series) (Showing off the Villager)
??? (Mega Man series) (Showing off Mega Man)
??? (Wii Fit series) (Showing off WFT)
Opening/Character Select (Super Smash Bros.)
Trainer Battle (Pokemon X & Y)

First Animal Crossing song was a new arrangement of the Tortimer Island Minigame song. Second one was a new arrangement of Kapp'n's Song

Zero Suit Samus has always been about sex appeal, deal with it.
I don't see how that factors with something so unrealistic. It looks like she's smuggling volleyballs.

They do when she's a 3D model in a video game, not an actual woman. If they say that's what her rack looks like, that's what it looks like.

That's like saying Mario must be in a costume, humans don't look like that.
There is a harmony to perceived concept and actual execution. Like .002% of anime is realistic, but many find cohesiveness with their own style that it comes off convincing, just like Mario does with his concept. Her art style conveys more realistic intentions. I'm just saying that her model looks whack and it's probably because of some artistic disconnect.

Brawl was nice because I could just hook up Gamecube controllers. Now, I'm not sure what I'd do, as it seems like it would be a $400+ investment just to play Smash with my friends (and, of course, other games eventually). Some friends came over the other day and we played Melee for a couple of hours, so I know it'd be popular, but still.

For now, the 3DS version. I'm actually quite excited for that new mode.

I'm not sure how a Brawl comparison doesn't make sense. We're talking about SSB here, not LoZ. The "complaint" is that ZSS had a chest upgrade from Brawl, and it's been noted that Zelda, Peach and Rosalina also got upgrades.
Zelda has her arm out in the SSB4 render also so it's not the best comparison.

I don't know if this has been pointed out yet, but Smash Run mode actually appeared very briefly in the debut trailer (and set of screen shots) for the game. Here is a screen shot from E3 2013 and the breif clip from one of the trailers:

I made a post about it at the time since this area didn't appear in any of the other screen shots or video. This hasn't resurfaced in any of the promotional material since that time so it has never left the back of my mind. I guess the mystery has finally been solved.

If there is an unrealistic aspect of Samus's boobs, it's their floatiness, not their size. Some women have huge boobs. That's a thing that happens. But if they are that big, they hang lower.

I dont know all the pics by heart, but maybe he was off-screen? Because that would be really weird. Wasnt there a Pic of the day explaining why Alfonzo was there in the first place? Weird

All 4 characters are visible in some. The possible point for contention is that Link is there and that may be causing it

That's not really a meteor smash and is something that can be pulled off regularly in Project M. Not sure about Brawl.

In Brawl the attack would only scatter foes horizontally or diagonally upwards depending on how it connects. In SSB4 the kick seems to inherit similar meteor smash properties as ZSS' D-Air had in Brawl. It's generally not a practical move for KOing though, however Sonic's still crazy good recovery might offset some of those issues.

why do some of you care so much about how the female characters look.

samus gots rocket heels. wow.

raiden from mgs also has heels. he uses them to jump and hold things.

Was that area actually shown in the new Direct, or does that mean that there are multiple arenas for Smash Run?

So it doesnt have to be Toon Link rather a Link? Sounds semi-plausible.... Will we get a ALBW-world stage for the 3DS? We know the spirit track-stage and Sakurai said that 3DS-version will get handheld-game stages, so it would make sense? Maybe with some rad crayon-wallpaintings :D

The Mega Man song is Spark Man's theme from Mega Man 3.

It was only a matter of time before the nitpicking began.

Who cares if she has bigger boobs? She looks fun to play. Zero Suit Samus has always been about sex appeal, deal with it.

If you want to gripe about it, gripe about how she's practically nude in the NES and SNES Metroid games.

This thing on NeoGAF where criticizing games = bad is really nonsensical. The whole purpose of a gaming forum is to discuss games, it can't always be corporate and game praising 24/7 since every person is different and has their own tastes. Trying to shut other people's views down as "deal with it" does nobody any favors.

You can't stop someone from having their own viewpoint, and I'm sure you wouldn't want someone harping on you for praising this game as if it was wrong to do so.

Because Twilight Princess Zelda doesn't originate from Brawl.

Nor does Zero Suit Samus originate from Brawl. But we aren't talking Metroid Zero Mission here, we're talking SSBB and SSB4. It's their appearance in the SSB series that's being talked about.

None of the artists who worked on SSBB or SSB4 worked on Twilight Princess. Their changes here are from Brawl, not TP.

Is that not what I've been saying? I never said I have a problem with large breasts or sexualization. Who gives a shit? I'm just saying they could have designed her a lot less awkwardly. Aside from the way they stick straight out in a static fashion, her ridiculous waist also increases the effect, so her upper body comes off like an upside down pyramid.

Olimar, Zero Suit Samus and Pit now all have something closer to the standard third jumps rather than tether recoveries or Pit's former free flight. So, I think Ness Up+B might be changed to something more like a standard recovery move, with no need to hit himself.

I hope they don't touch that move! One of the most satisfying things to pull off and get back on stage or hit someone.

Also didn't they 'just' remove Pit's glide ability? Maybe that move is exclusive to Glurak now.

I see what you mean. But I still hold my variety-makes-sense argument. Zelda/Peach/Rosalina/WFT are all EASILY in the A-B cup range. Having one big boobed character is not bad. Compare to Soul Calibur, where all but one female is C-cup or bigger.

Quas needs to update the ZSS stained glass to reflect her new boob expansion.

Sort of defeats the point of the switching in Alfonzo. No one is going to confuse Conductor Link for Smash Link.

Then again Rosalina has a giant head and tiny body with non-human proportions. So just think of ZSS as a cartoon character like the rest of them and it no longer matters.

You're right of course, it's just that lately every thread with a "fictional representation of a woman with evident feminine characteristics" has been turned in a debate between feminists, white knights, machists and perverts
, "normal" people too
.

See the thread about failed attempts at being sexy: that's basically "how to derail a thread 101". It's fine to have a few threads about it, or to discuss it once in a while, right now it's a constant occurrence though. It's just as tiring as "Ridley's too big, no it's not" arguments on SmashGAF.

Boobs debate?
I'm actually OK with Samus treatment. You can't spent your time asking for Nintendo being more for mature gamers and asking for a "mature" Metroid FPS game and complain about this.

Today on NeoGAF: Giving female characters bigger boobs is a sign of maturity.

Looking at the screenshots I would guess Zelda is now above A-B range but otherwise, sure. It's not Mortal Kombat or something, here.

I could care less about her bust size. My biggest gripe is that she's just very cut and dry for the lady behind the power armor. It's all personal taste/opinion, but I know I'd like to see a Samus who looks like she was raised by birds and who cares about practicality over beauty. The jet powered high heels and long, luxurious hair are all things you give to a female character because she's female. It doesn't reflect a more unique design, it reflects what's expected.

It is what it is, though, and if people like female characters who look nice over ones that are buff and grungy then that's totally fine. I'd just love to see a fresh approach to Samus, but her current design is obviously successful, just not something I find aesthetically pleasing.

I really dislike moving platform stages and scrolling stages, though it appears we're getting LOTS of them this time around.

There is always Battlefield and variants of final destination.

That said, I dislike that the temple is so big.. Looks like it would be really cool as two stages, but as one it has the same impression on me as New Pork City which I didn't like very much.

seriously guys:
Since we all know Smash Bros is canon (and everything else is just play), Sakurai can't prevent Samus from getting bigger breasts. She's a strong woman and does whatever the f*#% she wants.

Yeah, does anyone really have a scrolling stage that is one of their favorites? I really like Jungle Japes, Lylat Cruise and Spear Pillar; stages with some movement but aren't completely changing the lanscape and background both all the time.

Then again Rosalina has a giant head and tiny body with non-human proportions. So just think of ZSS as a cartoon character like the rest of them and it no longer matters.
No, because it doesn't match her perceived art style. As I said, there are principles to how stylistic categorization works. Everything else about her strikes too realistic for a barbie bod.

Has anybody noticed the placeholder images for some characters in Smash For Wii U's HUD? Lucario and Diddy Kong both have their Brawl renders instead of the For Artwork.

I'm assuming it is placeholder, but who knows right?

This thread has been pretty crazy for a while, I'm beginning to think NeoGAF needs more active moderators, ones that put their foot down and check these types of 'mega' threads.

In hate flat stages even more. I'm not really into competitive smash. At all.

My personal favourites are things like the Great Fox from 64/Melee (best stage ever), Onett, Zelda's Castle, Pokémon Stadium, etc. Stages with interactive stuff or unconventional forms.

Spear Pillar is cool until you get control reversal. Its only good for an occasional lark, because extended control screw its not very fun, especially combined with death lasers.
