Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

If Marth's Alt was Lucina
with the mask
, I think I'd still be okay with that because
when the announcer says "Marth", he kinda wouldn't be lying since she refers to herself as that while wearing the mask.

That would be one way to do it for Marth.

Alt costumes that actually change the character themselves are not my cup of tea, personally.

I do not expect it to happen either. Too messy.

Well we already have WFT though as Mory Dunz said they probably don't talk. But still I would think that option is still on the table/

But wouldn't that require doing more voices? Which isn't impossible I guess...

I don't think WFT will talk so changing sex might not matter.

Guess it would depend on what their development schedule looked like. Since doing some voice work for a skin would be easier than a whole new character.

They could probably even use the voice work from the Awakening games if they were desperate.

I think my favorite idea is the one you mentioned about tag teaming with Chrom. Not only does that rep Lucina, but it really epitomizes what makes Awakening stand out among other Fire Emblem games.

My fear is that Chrom will just get Ike's moveset, and they'll swap.

At this point I'd be up for the tag team, even if it's only like Zelda's phantom knight dude. I can see Chrom getting Ike's moveset.

If anything Having Marth's Alt costume be Lucina and Ikes Alt Be Chrom is what I think is most likely at this point.

heh, when you say it like that it kinda makes sense as a last resort. lol. This game will have many, many blue characters.

The Trainers also move exactly the same too, basically functioning as the same person.

Chrom and Ike are not the same person. Marth and Lucina are not the same person. I don't think most fans of any of these characters want to see them amalgamated like that.

To make Pac-Man look best in Smash I would think:

-3D, but no shading or very very light shading.
-No teeth
-simpler boots
-classic eyes

I thought she was going to talk a lot. In the developer direct from last e3 I remember Sakuri saying she says stuff like relax, talks about breathing exercises, or says the name of her attacks. Something like that.

Nope. People are arguing him as a roster inclusion, and that is the condition of the bet. For everyone who keeps talking about it, it's "nut up or shut up" time.

Are you still taking bets? I'm totally willing to bet on Ridley being a playable character (Meta/Standard/whatever).

If Crash or Spyro had survived to the modern day... *sigh*

Snake was the PS for a good long while. He's got the iconic down... even if he doesn't really fit into the universe as well. (Brawl did a hella fine job of it though)

Anyway, anyone got any good reaction vids to the Smash direct? I need some hype.

God I hope Ninty has an E3 show this year

We're going to get the stupid teeth Pac-Man. This is a thing we need to accept or prepare to be crushed with disappointment. My only hope is that we get a classic Pac-Man stage and not some Pacmopolis crap from Ghostly Adventure.

Namco is promoting their new unholy design, no way they let Sakurai go back to the pre-cartoon design.

Well Ike never had a move set at all like he did in brawl. So throwing chrom as having the same move set I don't think would change anything.

As for Lucina considering the spoilers around her they can get away with that skin easily.

This is more of a last resort thing. Since who knows how far along they were in before they realized they needed more awakening in the game or something.

You know, I did not see one instance of that new Pacman design while in Japan. Maybe the cartoon isn't popular in Japan and so that design will not even be brought up. It's described as a Japanese/American/Canadian production so who knows how much the Japanese side cares for the design compared to the western departments. Silver lining.

If it's not very popular it only gives them more incentive to promote him in a popular video game.

The cartoon is apparently renewed for a new season this year. It just depresses me, because I think it's almost nuDante level of bad (except that at least Namco is helping making the game so it's fair I guess) but it's how it is.

Isn't Pac-Man and the GA the only Pac-Man game on Wii U? I don't think we can dodge this bullet.

They used this design in Mario Kart GP DX last year and also for Pac-Man Museum that came out in February. We're doomed.

lol.

The design appeared years before the TV show and it's been in every game Pac-man has appeared in since. Don't hold your breath.

Edit: That being said, it's possible that he may not have teeth like he does on the show. He's made appearances without it as noted several times in this topic.

It's worth noting that Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures comes out in Japan under the title "Pac World" on June 19th 2014 on 3DS and June 26th on Wii U & PS3.

The show started in Japan last week, on April 5th on Tokyo MX.

It's only since that cartoon that people have had beef with his design. Before then people were indifferent to it. There are clearly aspects to it that displease people like the teeth.

Obviously I only spent two weeks in Japan so I'm not exactly an expert in Pacman's penetration there but if I ever did see a bit of memorabilia for the Pacman games it was usually sporting his more classic design. That's the design that resonates more with the general public.
That and the IP Namco was more interested in promoting was iDOLM@STER. ;)

Smash Bros is technically aimed at the young teenager and up market. The Pacman cartoon on the other hand is aimed at kids. While Namco is indeed helping out I doubt Sakurai will want to put in a design whose only aim is to advertise a show none of the game's supposed audience cares for. We heard what he had to say about Megaman. I mean we are assuming Namco's rep is Pacman thus they have already got better treatment than Sega and Capcom by the fact their other references (items and assist trophies) comes from their wider library rather than just the game their one rep is from, but I doubt they have such a big say to force a bad Pacman design in that no one likes.

So E3 would be the perfect time to reveal him and promote the upcoming show at the same time.

... Which means we're probably getting that crappy new design.

So, could someone explain to a noob like me how they can mix 60fps with 30fps?

My understanding is that the game screen will update 60 times a second. However, 30 FPS characters and objects will only change their pose/position on every other frame.

The most obvious performance benefit is that, for 30 FPS characters, you don't need to recalculate their pose every frame (which involves applying transformations to a base model). Furthermore, there may be rendering shortcuts you can take since you know that a part of the screen covered by a giant 30 FPS character won't change on every frame, so that part of the screen doesn't need full recalculation.

I'm not super informed on how game graphics systems work, so feel free to correct me if I misunderstand.

For whatever reason last night I had a dream that I was at this year's Nintendo E3 press conference and they were showing off a new character trailer for Smash Bros. After a really elaborate set up involving no sound whatsoever and just a world building into place out of Super Mario World tilesets the big new character they were bringing to the fold was... Shy Guy.

I think Smash is too much on my mind lately.

Well, Mega Man was given some slight design tweaks from what we've seen of him, so far. Maybe they'll find a compromise and Pac-Man will end up getting a more tolerable look. That, or we could get the classic/World design as an alternate skin.

Shy Guy would be HYPE AS FUCK.

Seriously, he(?) is the best Mario enemy.

I'm getting a little tired of that space dragon right now. lol

It'd be pretty awesome if there were an fe awakening rep for whom every b move was a tag attack with a different character.

hah, that would be something. It would be the only way to get in all the popular characters. Tharja, Owain, etc.

Shy Guy has been seen in Smash Run as an enemy, so unlikely to be playable.

but Alfonzo tho...

I didn't see Wii Fit Trainer's side-special/volley ball attack in the Direct. Although, her up/side-throw is like it, but instead hitting the player. Maybe they're reworking it?

Just to warn you that Alfonzo doesn't have a Halberd driving licence so Metaknight will not be returning as a playable fighter as he will be stuck in his ship.

I somehow don't disagree with that statement, but for the life of me I have no idea why. There's no rational reason why pac-man shouldn't be in the game, but as a character he feels too...irrelevant.
One of the most undoubtedly iconic and important video game characters of all time is irrelevant?
