Tales of Hearts R coming to the West - Winter 2014

Really cool news. People seem to have a lot expectations for the whole #JRPGVITA thing, but personally I feel like even if they don't push for other games any time soon this is enough for me to feel thankful. Obviously the more games the better, but sometimes you just have to slow down and appreciate one thing before you go asking for more. Hopefully this helps put the Vita on the map for a lot of people who previously wasn't very aware of the Vita Library.

My exact reaction. We can't blame Shahid though, the Tales games were on top of the jrpgvita request list.

But as long as we get at least an announcement of Type-0 this year, I'm ok with this.

Most of the disappointment is because people thought #jrpgvita would be over after this.
People need to readjust their expectations if they seriously expect Square-Enix to port Type-0 to the Vita based on a western Twitter campaign.

Cool; can't get too hyped for a Tales game if it doesn't mention Graces-like battle system though.

Hearts R has one of the better combat systems in the 3D series. I'd say it's actually more fun of a game than Graces, because in that case it took like 30 hours for the combat system to grow into something super god damned fun. In the case of Hearts R, it gets fun fast and stays fun until the end. I would say postgame Accel mode Graces F is a bit better, but that's after the game has already ended.

Seems the Tales of Hearts DS fan translation is put on hold to support the Vita release. I guess it's the right decision for now, though I hope they will continue with it a few years or so after the Vita release, as the DS version seems to be very different.

I'll buy it day 1, I like the idea of a portable Tales.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
actually I want them to release Destiny R way more.

I'm pretty pissed off right now.

According to the page they're switching focus to Phantasia X and that just adds to my anger because I want Destiny R too.

Lmao that fan translation was never going to finish anyway

I'm sure it would've taken forever but they were actually getting work done for once lol.

Nice. I guess we've missed the boat for Innocence R, but considering I never thought we'd get to play either game in English this is more than acceptable.

I'm actually glad, because I really want that Phantasia X translation. Well, Destiny R too, I have both games sitting here, but I want Phantasia X more.

Nice. I guess?

Oh, they changed the 2D battle system to 3D? I take back my "nice."

Namco is strange, skipping these games when the DS was on fire but releasing them on Vita as sales are plummeting.

I think I'm tentatively on board for this. Not sure the DS changes will matter to me in any way (in the same way I didn't miss the changed content in Persona 3 Portable because I didn't know any better at the time), and I'll have to judge the story on its own merits but honestly Tales games have always been middling to slightly poor in this department anyway so whatever.

Ah, here's the post I was looking for when I mentioned it in the other thread.

Shahid just confirmed on Twitter that #jrpgvita is an ongoing thing, it's not just one game.

Ah wonderful. That makes me feel better.

On topic, is Tales of Hearts R any good? I have never played a Tales game and I enjoy supporting devs who support the Vita.

first off... and as always... install base does not equal sales just because the ds had good sales hardware wise and the vita doesn't, doesn't mean that it would have sold better on the DS then it would the vita. This is a niche release period, you are likely looking at 50-200k sales either way, of which both install base are quite a bit bigger than. would it have sold better on the ds, maybe, but in general tales games sell better on sony products because that is where the fans are. (heck we have seen some cases of games in japan getting released on the 3ds and vita at the same time and the vita version outselling the 3ds version by a decent amount) (also I know the remake of hearts sold worse than the DS version, but I have often heard these aren't very good tales games in general, thus no fooling twice in japan, but you can still fool people once in NA/EU :P)

second off it's a different namco now then then... they are localizing a lot more tales games in general which is a good thing.

Can't wait. I played both the original and the remake multiple times.

I'm interested in how many people complaining about R and making comparisons have actually played either game.

There are plenty of people who would argue both very good and very bad things about the game despite not having played it.

My two cents: give the game a try before you write it off or start praising it as the best thing ever. I thought Hearts R was going to be crap, but I wound up enjoying it immensely.

I think it's a very nice game. A lot of complaints with it stem from the changes made to the game and its story (see the link Flamfas posted above) in its transition from DS to Vita. IMHO, Hearts has one of the stronger stories in the series, and the gameplay offers a very, VERY fresh take on classic Tales conventions while adding a few new wrinkles of its own. It would make a nice first Tales game, IMO. Definitely recommended.

Looks like I am going to buy a Vita

Semi Off-Topic: Does anyone know where I can find the Tales of Innocence (Nintendo DS) english patch and the instructions on how to implement it??

I use google for most of my questions about gaming piracy.

Hell yes! I love Tales games so I'm super happy about this. Tales of Symponia HD, Xillia 2, Hearts R, and possibly Zestiria all in 2014? sogood.gif

I doubt Zestiria will be 2014 over here. Hopefully it gets here around March or April 2015 or something. At the very least by the first half of the year.

Same here, never played a Tales game - what am I missing and is this a good one to jump in on?

Tales is one of the best RPG series out there. You might find some games divisive, but generally it's a very fun series with great battle systems, (IMO) better casts than most RPGs, and enjoyable stories.

No idea if ToHR is good to jump in with. I'd probably try Xillia or Vesperia first...

Honestly at this point, I'll buy this game regardless of its quality because I want developers to keep making Vita games lol.

Graces is a good starting point too
