This talk of connecting the two versions to unlock stuff makes me hope that if there are unlockable characters in this game like the rest of the Smash series I hope that you can connect the 3DS version to the Wii U version to automatically unlock all the characters so you don't have to unlock them all a second time.
I understand the reasoning, but I guarantee even if Sakurai flat out stated Ridley will be a stage boss, there will still be people digging further and further to try and justify him still somehow being playable. It's delusional mental gymnastics. Maybe I'm being overly critical but damn if people don't set themselves up for disappointment willingly. It isn't hype at this point, it's almost obsession. We saw how carried away some users here get about the discussion.
I guess.Come on, most of the games at EVO sold only like 1-2Mil copies. Smash4 should easily sell at the very least 2-3Mil copies (I assume the worst and put WiiU lifetime at 10Mil units here). It won't have any problems building up a competitive scene.
I was more wondering about new blood. I'd be worried if the only people playing Smash 4 competitively were the Brawl or Melee players.the competitive community won't depend on overall sales
and thank goodness
Why are you so eager to hear my viewpoint on whether a purple space dragon clone in a shitty game has the same memories as a black space dragon in a good game? You picked a convenient time to be done arguing.
This is just as good as Facebook arguments

So, anyone think we've seen all the items already?

Definitely unlockable, and I would guess it probably has something to do with music. Maybe you have to get a certain number of songs unlocked, or listen to a certain number of songs while playing? So if the Chorus men are playable, do you think they'll be default of unlockable? How do you think you'd unlock them?
Nothing from Punch-Out!!, but we've seen two Animal Crossing items: the Pitfall from Brawl and a new one, the Beehive.3/4 of them all I'd imagine.
Have we seen any Punch Out, or Animal Crossing ones?
So, anyone think we've seen all the items already?
That would be disappointing, considering we still have months before the 3DS version even releases. So, anyone think we've seen all the items already?

Also, the 3DS and Wii U versions might have different item rosters.

I'm not sure what type of items Punch-Out!! could have. A chocolate bar?

It's definitely a BIG deal.Quite a bit of vitriol going on here for some harmless roster speculation. Not that big of a deal if someone believes Ridley will be in the roster.
I still want to know what Sakurai means when he says that the 3DS and Wii U versions will have roughly the same Assist Trophies. Does he mean they will each have a few exclusives? The first thing I thought was that maybe the Wii U version will have all the Assist Trophies that the 3DS version has and more because it is coming out later.
I wonder, obviously we are all against characters being unlocked by having both versions, but would anyone be against the Wii U version launching with a few more characters and those being released as paid DLC(actual DLC, not on cart DLC) on 3DS unless you have your copies linked in which case you get to download them for free? It probably won't happen, but I think it's a cool idea. No, but probably pretty close.
Ideas (some taken from other gaf members) for 'connection' between Wii U and 3DS:
- Unlock Characters you already unlocked on 3DS on the Wii U (or vice versa)
- Unlock shared trophies (Trophies that exist on both Wii U and 3DS)
- Unlock new trophies (thank you for connecting, have a trophy!)
- Transfer or (hopefully) sync profiles (Names list, records, button mapping)
- Transfer/sync custom move sets for characters
- Transfer/sync online records
- Transfer/sync custom stages
- Unlock stages (boooo!!!!!!!!!! Hisssss!!!!!!!!!!!)
- Unlock characters (again, Boooooo!!!!!!!! Hisss!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- Unlock character skins (not AS bad, as it's just cosmetic, but still booooooooo)
Another idea could be an entirely new game mode that has 3DS and Wii U play together. Would be similar to smash run in that it has a map/stage exclusive to this mode that isn't found in normal play. Maybe it has 2 different maps, where 3ds players work to achieve one goal while wii u players work to achieve another, then they are ranked accordingly, or maybe they meet together on a custom map/stage for this mode only, and duke it out. Just throwing ideas out there about how the Wii U and 3DS could interact without it actually being an actual smash fight while still being SOME sort of game mode.
We should get Mac's trainers bike. Throw it around as a whole bike or hit it and bust it into smaller pieces that get thrown farther.I'm not sure what type of items Punch-Out!! could have. A chocolate bar?
Ridley the space dragon lived in a base
And fought a bounty hunter lass in outer space,
Poor little SmashGaf wanted to play as him,
But that mean ol' Sakurai threw those plans in the bin.
I'd be completely okay with this. Bonus points if the 3DS DLC doesn't actually release publicly for a few weeks, so Wii U users get "early access" of a sort.I wonder, obviously we are all against characters being unlocked by having both versions, but would anyone be against the Wii U version launching with a few more characters and those being released as paid DLC(actual DLC, not on cart DLC) on 3DS unless you have your copies linked in which case you get to download them for free? So a replacement for Wario's bike? I'd be all right with that, especially if it meant Wario getting his shoulder charge...We should get Mac's trainers bike. Throw it around as a whole bike or hit it and bust it into smaller pieces that get thrown farther.

Couldn't they just increase the range of his forward smash? So a replacement for Wario's bike? I'd be all right with that, especially if it meant Wario getting his shoulder charge...
I hope they take advantage of the Wii U's greater power in SOME way besides graphics at least.I still want to know what Sakurai means when he says that the 3DS and Wii U versions will have roughly the same Assist Trophies. Pretty much. Except someone doesn't need to be playing as Wario for it to show up. Plus besides the bike, a ring bell and some assist trophies of other fighters I can't think of anything else for Punch Out items.I'd be completely okay with this. Bonus points if the 3DS DLC doesn't actually release publicly for a few weeks, so Wii U users get "early access" of a sort.

Wario's shoulder tackle isn't in the game unless it's a 1:1 transplant from the source material. It's only a coincidence that Wario's forward smash utilizes his shoulder.Couldn't they just increase the range of his forward smash?
If they made the shoulder charge a special instead it could presumably do some fun Wario Land things like letting the player jump while doing it or cancel it by crouching. Or do it in the air, though I don't think you could do that in the Wario Land games.Couldn't they just increase the range of his forward smash?

I hope not.
Beehive and Pitfall are from animal crossing.
I really hope we get items from other Nintendo series besides Mario and Zelda. The latter two are waaayy over-represented in the item department.
If by bad you mean nineties bad meaning awesome then, yeah, Big Blue is so bad.No loss there considering that Brinstar Depths is like the second worst stage in all of Melee.
Big Blue is the first for those curious. That stage is SO BAD.
Golden sun needs far more representation in smash then an assist trophy![]()
Most of us have said we don't necessarily think he will be playable, just that it is possible. My rage came from people spouting the same shit over and over acting like it has been 100% confirmed that he won't be playable.
Do I want Ridley playable? Yes. Do I expect Ridley to be playable? No. Will I care if Ridley is not playable? No.
It is the people saying that he WON'T be that anger me. If you don't think he will be playable or don't want him to be playable that's fine, just say that. Don't go around saying it is impossible.
it be pretty cool to get some pokemon like items in the new smash. Like life orb and choice lens. But what i really want is a few dijins from golden sun as items, Hydra represented, and replace parasol with mario series propeller hat
I can concede on this matter, then. It's not possible to say, for certain, if he will or will not be playable. There's people on both sides of the coin though, and it angers me seeing those people get incredibly defensive over something that's iffy. I hope he's playable, but my expectations are quite low.
Apologies if I offended with my brashness.
Yesssss, I'd love some Pokemon items that aren't Pokeballs.it be pretty cool to get some pokemon like items in the new smash. Like life orb and choice lens. But what i really want is a few dijins from golden sun as items, Hydra represented, and replace parasol with mario series propeller hat
what
I want the Parasol back
I agree, but then it'll end up being something from Dark Dawn and really, who wants that?
But Ridley's too big to fit in a crate or barrel!Ridley should be an item![]()
