Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

The difference is that Mega Man Classic's design has been basically unchanged for over 25 years, while Sanic, a character who has had major design changes over the years, used his modern design, so I'd assume the same would be true for Pac.
I would be very surprised if we didn't get wakka wakka Pac-Man.

thou there was a game where Simon Belmont could fight Snake... Dream Mix something something, I think it was something like a Konami Smash-eske game

I think people have a good reason to be worried. He didn't go with the classic Sonic design and instead went with the modern design which was also Sonic's design in his recent games. I think Sakurai had freedom with Mega Man because Capcom hasn't really done anything recently with Mega Man. I'm assuming it's because Sega asked Sakurai to use the modern design and Capcom just didn't care since they didn't use Mega Man and have no Mega Man games coming up. If Namco does have any say in Pac-Man's design, it's more than likely going to be the one that would be inline with their current Pac-Man title.

hmm that's true, dammit lol. I will have faith the Great Samurai will do what's right.

I'll take pacman over bayonetta any day
I think Bayonetta would be a more interesting, fun and practical fighter but I generally think 3rd party characters in Smash should be important to Nintendo and tied into Nintendo history. Sonic, Megaman and Pacman are all mascots for their respective company that have a rivalry with Nintendo's own mascot, Mario. Im not too keen on 3rd party characters like Simon Belmont, Bayonetta, Snake, Leon, etc.

Remember when everyone thought we were going to get Lloyd Irving?

Those sure were... times...

Pretty much everyone expected every character from everything ever during the Brawl years. "I mean if SNAKE, a Sony character could get in, then surly Cloud Strife, Master Chief and Inuyasha will get in as well!!!" Thankfully, the disappointment of the Brawl roster has made our expectations relativly more realistic, but I don't go to Smash Boards anymore, so I can't say for sure.

Tales of Symphonia main protagonist.

He's the protagonist of one of the Tales games.

From Tales I think
Ah.

...Seriously thought he'd be in? Wow.

I... Am in this same boat.

98% this!
The other 2% is because I kind of want Simon Belmont.

Here's probably a dumb question, but if Pac-Man has no arms or legs then what kind of fighting moves would/could he have?

I'm legit looking for ideas/thoughts as some one who prefers the classic design as well.

...people thought that?

Yes.
People presumed we would get a namco rep as they have a hand in the making of the game.
Now look at the list of Namco games on gamecube/wii
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Namco_games#Nintendo_platforms

Of all the games there, the only reasonable characters that had a game on a nintendo home console from namco in the last 2 gens was either A) Pac man or B) Lloyd Irving, having shown up in 3 different games on nintendo systems (The two ToS games, and Soul Calibur Legends. That they chose lloyd as the cameo character for a nintendo soul calibur should be at least a little telling what they think of him with regards to nintendo fans over at Namco). It's help that ToS was the first 3D Tales of game, and somehow the gamecube version is still the definitive version despite 2 rereleases(PS2 jp only and a hd remake ...of the ps2 version)

Is pacman a lot more likely, even ignoring the leak? Sure. That doesn't mean lloyd is a bad guess.

Pac-Man has had arms and legs since the very beginning. Like every other video game character from the early '80s, his sprite doesn't reflect his intended appearance.

Snake seems like an offbeat choice until you realize that it isn't about how he's important to Nintendo but how Nintendo is important to him. The franchise would probably not exist beyond the first game if the NES port of Metal Gear hadn't sold well enough to spawn its own sequel, which in turn prompted the creation of the actual Metal Gear 2, which is the foundational game for the rest of the series.
