Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

It's been right in front of you all along!

I'll keep trying to hit it :3

I'm kinda salty about Dark Link not being playable actually, lol. I don't even have a good reason for that other than I like Dark Link. I just think it would be cool for him to have a moveset where he jumped through shadows.

I'm not counting Dark Link Costumes btw :P
Well hopefully Hyrule Warriors delivers and has a ton of playable fighters from the Zelda series. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and fire emblem are all franchises that could have their own dedicated fighting game spinoff and have large rosters.

Zelda really needs a spinoff akin to the idea of Mario Kart where you can play as tons of characters in the series.

F-Zero would have a great cast of fighters too. Imagine Samurai Goroh vs Captain Falco vs Silver Nelsen vs the twins

Something weird I noticed: Donkey Kong is solidly meh-tier (below-average but not close to bottom) in every Smash game. Is there any other character with a more consistent tier position in all three Smashes?

(At least he has it better than Link)

I'm pretty sure that Luigi's always near the bottom.

Yoshi is consistently bad
lol

That is such a strange thing for a character like donkey kong, in any other game, a big, powerful character that is also fast and agile(relatively) would be usually a broken character. Or just a really incredible human being in real life.

The best Samus got was mid-tier but she's solidly crap in 64 and Brawl.

consistently good (this is a really shaky category due to Melee Pikachu/Brawl Fox): Fox, Pikachu (Marth, Falco, and Ice Climbers too, but they only have Melee/Brawl)
consistently meh: Luigi, DK
consistently awful: Ness, Yoshi, Link

and for this "Fox is awful in Brawl" business, he's still solidly in the top half of the cast at least >_>

Mmmm Zelda maybe?

I've really wanted one since Soul Calibur 2 on GCN. That would be an amazing game for Zelda fans.

A huge hitbox and really bad recovery make him almost a glass cannon, IMO. And he doesn't have as much firepower as, say, Fox.

Samus just is usually slow and floaty.

Speaking of slow, I have no doubt Bowser will be low tier in Smash 4, and he probably would have been low tier if he were in Smash 64.

Link is pretty shitty in all three.

edit: And Mario's in the middle bit of the pack in all three, which is to be expected.
Mario's complete shit in Brawl. Just can't kill worth a damn.

Mario was bad because he had like zero hard hitting attacks, no priority on his moves and stubby limbs.

Awww hell naw. Long live aMSa!

Has Mario always been consistently average? I always find it weird that we never see many players, except a long-shot Dr. Mario, play with Nintendo's main mascot.

Meanwhile in Project M, Mario is slowly but surely being considered the new Melee Sheik (i.e. the character that gate keeps other characters out of God Tier).

Besides the fact that he wasn't MetaKnight, why was Mario so bad in Brawl?

Biggest thing is probably the loss of his down b to aid his recovery makes him extremely predictable when recovering, he also has problems reliably killing people. Mario literally lose a move (his down a), had his original down b nerfed (it became his down a) and his new down b is completely worthless in vanilla brawl.

^ Thanks for the answers Re: Mario. I never got to delve into Brawl to the depths I did with Melee.

I wonder if his FLUDD move will be worth anything in SSB4. I was honestly surprised to see it brought back.

So many fireballs...

It's not even the fireballs even if they're nutty as fuck. It's the combination of giving him stupidly high attack power (who's brilliant idea was it to make his fair vary between being a spike or Dr. Mario's dunk; let's not even get into fsmash or dsmash), making everything recover a billion times faster than you are ever truly prepared for, giving him huge priority on down B, a slide that stays active as long as Zero's buttons in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that can combo into itself up to 3 times, DI taken into account, and of course a faster cape that can launch you if sweet spotted.

This character is amazing and stupid at the same time. :lol
