· S.H.I.E.L.D was the #1 scripted series in its hour among Men 18-34 for its 19th-straight original telecast. S.H.I.E.L.D. is Tuesday's #1 TV show this season with Men 18-34 and Men 18-49.

· S.H.I.E.L.D. improved its hour by 64% for ABC year to year in Adults 18-49, over the year-ago night with original programming.

This is why I don't see a problem with it getting renewed. It's not the mega-hit that you'd expect a MCU tie-in to be after the Avengers (nor is it critically acclaimed for the most part), but it's something that will continue making ABC money with the only demographic that really matters for a show like this.

Only way it is getting canceled is if Disney/Marvel just have no idea where to go with it next season as they prepare for the end of phase 2 with AoU and Ant-Man. In other words, creative reasons instead of it just being a massive disappointment to ABC.

EDIT: Other people have stated it much better than I. Its funny how relatively far the show has come, as it now has things happening where people feel strongly enough to go into in depth detail. Upwards and onwards!.

Using pain to throw off the receptors trick is one of the oldest tricks in the book, and it fooled the machine quite easily. Ocean's Eleven used that same trick on a regular one. Koening only started messing up when Ward failed to keep the pain up. It is why he clearly started pressing the spike again when Koening saw through the lies. But this is Koening, not Hand so the incompetence isn't a problem. It is as expected.

And we have been discussing the details since the very start. Only a month ago we were discussing those guards they murdered. Who now might have been working for May's mom.

Too what slot? ABC needs it at 8pm on Tuesday, they have nothing else. As far as budget goes I doubt that one too, this is Disney's baby now, and all that marvel money will keep flowing in.

Yeah, i've been disappointed as well. I was hoping for a score that would rival Human Target's, but it seems he probably doesn't have the budget to pull off something that great. This show has also been kinda lacking in lengthy action sequences, which have resulted in some of his best work.

Never liked Bear that much even on BSG, so I am still disappointed.
(Richard Gibbs' influence on the miniseries was way better imho)

So, I liked the episode for the most part, especially the lie detector scenes ("The TARDIS!" - oh Simmons! ). I'm annoyed that there was such a cheap cop-out with Ward. I knew he was gonna pass, but I was still disappointed. I liked Amy Acker's character, and I also hope that the establishment of the Darkforce's existence means that, perhaps, we'll get some Darkstar action. One of my favorite heroines from the books.

Yep. For all the FUD from certain quarters about how it's a sinking ship, or fans'/ABC's hopes of a major boost from TWS, the ratings have been extremely consistent since December. Maybe the availability of S1 via Netflix et al. will help S2 do a bit better, maybe not, but as long as it stays around this level, it's safe from cancellation.

Interesting how they did it, but it worked well. I used to play violin so my mind automatically starts analyzing stringed instrument performances in movies.

Last episode was enjoyable yet again. Cap 2 really has improved the series a lot and given it a driving force to link each episode which previously had been lacklustre or non-existent. I also really like the whole Fitz/Simmons dynamic of late, their arc has been a highlight for me.

To be fair, pain apparently affected the readings and he was the only one in the team to have recently been beat the fuck up. Enough that Coulson wanted him to stay behind and recover. Koenig probably only gave him some leeway to make sure the readings were accurate.

I think Simmons is "the one," at least right now. Skye was only in the picture because he didn't really know Simmons yet. I don't think Triplett is a threat, nor do I think he'll bend for an "easy" woman if she happened to come by.

What I will say about Triplett is that he still brings a very ominous feel to every scene, his allegiance still feels ambiguous. I'm not entirely convinced, even if he says all the right things.

Wha? Fitz and Simmons knew each other before Skye came onto the scene. They went to school together.

I love the idea of having an LMD of him at every single shadow base that Fury has set up.

The biggest problem is making someone believe that they are failing the test. It's lie detector 101 to not tell people how they're doing on the lie detector test. They fail it and afterwards you say "ok, thanks for your time," and then tell Coulson: "yeah, he didn't do as well as the others."

Pointing a gun at someone in anything other than a magical SHIELD lie detector would make you fail hard since your stress levels would be elevated. The machine wouldn't be able to differentiate between "I'm telling a bit of a lie," and, "I don't want to get shot in the face."

But really, I don't care. Because it's a magical comic book lie detector machine.
