· S.H.I.E.L.D was the #1 scripted series in its hour among Men 18-34 for its 19th-straight original telecast. S.H.I.E.L.D. is Tuesday's #1 TV show this season with Men 18-34 and Men 18-49.

· S.H.I.E.L.D. improved its hour by 64% for ABC year to year in Adults 18-49, over the year-ago night with original programming.

This is why I don't see a problem with it getting renewed. It's not the mega-hit that you'd expect a MCU tie-in to be after the Avengers (nor is it critically acclaimed for the most part), but it's something that will continue making ABC money with the only demographic that really matters for a show like this.

Only way it is getting canceled is if Disney/Marvel just have no idea where to go with it next season as they prepare for the end of phase 2 with AoU and Ant-Man. In other words, creative reasons instead of it just being a massive disappointment to ABC.

Also just wanted to post this behind the scenes video for the latest episode about the executing the cellist music. I have to say, on re-hearing it, it is the first time in Agents of Shield that some of Bear McCreary's work and style (from BSG) has shawn through. His work on SHIELD is typically very saturday morning cartoon action power hour stuff (intentionally so) but I hope we get some less predictable stuff from his going forward as the show continues to go in new directions and tones.

The show has found its steady audience and does really well in DVR numbers too. I'm pretty confident it'll get renewed.

Personally Bear has been a disappointment on both Walking Dead and SHIELD for me. His BSG stuff is amazing and I listen to it pretty regularly.

So, the raid of the fridge could be an origin story for the Netflix shows?

Also, just for shit and giggles:

My favorite (and unintentionally funny scene) is when Coulson kisses the Cellist and just GTFO as Simmons took his place. :lol It was just done so casually.

Ming Na was in Joy Luck Club?!

the-joy-luck-club00993020-13-14.jpg

It's kind of amazing, she barely looks a day older now and she's 50. 50!

EDIT: goddamnit Dai101

I was just thinking the Fridge plays really nicely with the post credit scene in CA2 as well. All these powers being released anf the age of "Miracles."

The lie detector didn't fuck up Koenig did.

EDIT: Other people have stated it much better than I. Its funny how relatively far the show has come, as it now has things happening where people feel strongly enough to go into in depth detail. Upwards and onwards!.

Using pain to throw off the receptors trick is one of the oldest tricks in the book, and it fooled the machine quite easily. Ocean's Eleven used that same trick on a regular one. Koening only started messing up when Ward failed to keep the pain up. It is why he clearly started pressing the spike again when Koening saw through the lies. But this is Koening, not Hand so the incompetence isn't a problem. It is as expected.

And we have been discussing the details since the very start. Only a month ago we were discussing those guards they murdered. Who now might have been working for May's mom.

"Can't wait for ext week episode"

That's something no one would expect a few episodes ago.

I felt this way the whole season.

Episode 21 "Ragtag" synopsis:
[...snip...]
Guest starring are Bill Paxton as Agent Garrett, B.J. Britt as Agent Antoine Triplett; Ruth Negga as Raina; David Conrad as Ian Quinn; J. August Richards as Mike.

All recurring characters.

For the record, the link above is a press release from the ABC network.
They will only mention positive stuff and may spin the facts.

The final numbers are in:
ABC Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 1.9 6 6.04

Third-lowest episode of the season.
The show did also not beat Castle this week.

Still on course for renewal though.

If it gets renewed I can see it getting rescheduled and having its budget slashed.

What should ABC put on Tuesdays at 8 then?
SHIELD is the first thing in a while that works.

Third lowest of the season? Or 3rd (2nd?) week in a row of improving ratings since Turn, Turn Turn? I prefer to look at trajectory more than numbers B)
So Skye totally left a message to the rest of the team on one of those fake rotating windows right? That's the reason they panned to it once she found out.... right?
Chekov's Rotating Window

Too what slot? ABC needs it at 8pm on Tuesday, they have nothing else. As far as budget goes I doubt that one too, this is Disney's baby now, and all that marvel money will keep flowing in.

May interacting with Maria is an exciting prospect. I hope May's mum also gets a substantial role in the next ep.

Yeah, i've been disappointed as well. I was hoping for a score that would rival Human Target's, but it seems he probably doesn't have the budget to pull off something that great. This show has also been kinda lacking in lengthy action sequences, which have resulted in some of his best work.

The previous episode was rated 0.2 rating points higher, so there is no upwards trend here.
Longterm the show has settled at around 2.0 (never did the math)
and is more or less flat.

Never liked Bear that much even on BSG, so I am still disappointed.
(Richard Gibbs' influence on the miniseries was way better imho)

Actually, the whole MCU is more miss than hit for me in the score department.

So, I liked the episode for the most part, especially the lie detector scenes ("The TARDIS!" - oh Simmons! :D). I'm annoyed that there was such a cheap cop-out with Ward. I knew he was gonna pass, but I was still disappointed. I liked Amy Acker's character, and I also hope that the establishment of the Darkforce's existence means that, perhaps, we'll get some Darkstar action. One of my favorite heroines from the books.

Dat title change doe. May's mom MVP.

I think Bear has currently spread himself way too thin.

He's got Walking Dead, Davinci's Demons, Black Sails, Defiance, Agents of Shield and now Outlander

Yep. For all the FUD from certain quarters about how it's a sinking ship, or fans'/ABC's hopes of a major boost from TWS, the ratings have been extremely consistent since December. Maybe the availability of S1 via Netflix et al. will help S2 do a bit better, maybe not, but as long as it stays around this level, it's safe from cancellation.

Interesting how they did it, but it worked well. I used to play violin so my mind automatically starts analyzing stringed instrument performances in movies.

Last episode was enjoyable yet again. Cap 2 really has improved the series a lot and given it a driving force to link each episode which previously had been lacklustre or non-existent. I also really like the whole Fitz/Simmons dynamic of late, their arc has been a highlight for me.

So based on the episode. Triplett would have to be Gabriel Jones grandson. Gabe ends up marrying Peggy carter in the Comics. Fits the comment Peggy makes in TWS about Cap saving her future husband too.

Why didn't Oswalt's character just shoot Ward then and there? Genuinely couldn't get back on board with the episode after that.

SHIELD is no more, so he telling that he is doing for his mission or whatever don't stick, saying that he did for Skye which certainly is, at some degree, seems more convincent. See all the other responses, no one of them responded for SHIELD or something for that effect.

Yes but nobody else seemed to lie as much, I would assume given Hydra infiltrating SHIELD and all I would have just shot the guy.

I'm not going to say it was a stupid move because obviously I have a level of knowledge about the characters and situations that it isn't possible for Oswalt to have. It's not so much that I think it was wrong of the character as I know almost nothing about him but it just struck me as weird when I watched it.

To be fair, pain apparently affected the readings and he was the only one in the team to have recently been beat the fuck up. Enough that Coulson wanted him to stay behind and recover. Koenig probably only gave him some leeway to make sure the readings were accurate.

I think Simmons is "the one," at least right now. Skye was only in the picture because he didn't really know Simmons yet. I don't think Triplett is a threat, nor do I think he'll bend for an "easy" woman if she happened to come by.

What I will say about Triplett is that he still brings a very ominous feel to every scene, his allegiance still feels ambiguous. I'm not entirely convinced, even if he says all the right things.

Wha? Fitz and Simmons knew each other before Skye came onto the scene. They went to school together.

The biggest problem is making someone believe that they are failing the test. It's lie detector 101 to not tell people how they're doing on the lie detector test. They fail it and afterwards you say "ok, thanks for your time," and then tell Coulson: "yeah, he didn't do as well as the others."

Pointing a gun at someone in anything other than a magical SHIELD lie detector would make you fail hard since your stress levels would be elevated. The machine wouldn't be able to differentiate between "I'm telling a bit of a lie," and, "I don't want to get shot in the face."

But really, I don't care. Because it's a magical comic book lie detector machine.

Fact is, it also doesn't help that the show to WAY too long to get good. Even for a Whedon style show, it was just boring for so very long. It's much better now, though it still needs a bit of work.
