Why does Tyson Chandler look like he came from his 2nd job

I don't understand the legal grounds for forcing him to sell his own property. I think the owner can fuck with the NBA for a long time if he wants to.

Its his team. What do you guys expect?

No one can just force him away from his business with no rewards. Batman isn't real

Steam can take away your games if you cause enough trouble on there. Why is he exempt? He has enough money that it wouldn't even bankrupt him.

Guess who is higher in the league valuation than the Clips? OKC. Do you think Oklahoma is a bigger market than Seattle? Is it bigger than LA? Seattle can make money, the landscape has changed. Winnipeg lost their hockey team in the mid 90s because their revenue was at the bottom. Today they're middle-of-the-pack.

Let's not get lost here. Seattle lost their team because their owner was shit and Seattle didn't put up much of a fight in keeping them.

OKC ended up working out. Silly fans, but it worked. Clippers still have a dedicated base despite their franchise being the West Coast Mets.

Banning him for life is good. But how can they force him to sell the team? This has all kinds of bad legal ramifications.

The commissioner can't. But the owners can through 3/4 majority. I guess it's a contingency to allow the owners to save themselves. Like if an owner doesn't want to buy an arena and makes the team play in a barn. In this case, Sterlings comments resulted in advertisers pulling millions of dollars out of the league. If there was no mechanism to remove him, the other owners would be forced to watch as potentially billions left.

How can he be fined if he's being banned? It's not a court order.. whats they worst they can do if he doesn't pay? Obviously he will pay to try and save face, but it just seems stupid.

I guess if he doesn't pay, they can withhold revenue from him.

He will probably file a lawsuit and this could sit in litigation for years.

The commissioner made the only real choice ao good on him.

Because the Seattle group will offer far more than any other prospective ownership group. Just as they have for every team that has gone up for sale the last couple years.

Why would the NBA allow a prospective ownership group to pay Sterling more money than he deserves?

Yeah I mean I get the whole reasoning behind it.These sports leagues kind of do whatever the hell they want unless someone puts them in check though. I'm not sure a judge would agree with the actual legality of it.

Yeah, I didn't mean the fans. They were just kind of left there holding their caps at waist level in disgust.

The spectrum of sports in Washington are far different from that point in time as well. They absolutely are on top of the list for a hockey/basketball team. Thank the soccer hipsters!

Hey, the Mets have won World Series. The fans still left alive have something to remember.

Us Clipper fans just have eternal hope (and tolerance for pain).

I said it's not impossible. People sound like I said bank on it, 2019 is set in stone. It was just an idea of... well if the new owners can provide their own venue in a basketball hungry place, it could happen, not saying it will happen. But could happen. Like I said, its not impossible.

It's not happening. Why would anybody buy something for $800 million and then immediately do something that decreases it's value? The reason the Clippers are worth so much is because they play in a top 2 media market. TV rights are king and any new buyer will stand to make a lot more from a tv deal in LA than Seattle. Not to mention the other owners make money from this to so they'd all have to approve a move that would cost them dollars. There is literally no logical reason to move the team to Seatrle other than "it'd be cool for the fans" and that is almost never why business decisions are made. I doubt Solver is going to want to engage in the same kind of underhanded shenanigans that put the Thunder in OKC to begin with, and even that stemmed from conflict about getting Seattle to build a new arena, of which the Clippers already have.

I know. The comparison works because next door they have the greatest franchise in history of the sport.

Clippers play in the same arena as the number two franchise in this respective sport.

Honestly, the guy is so rich and powerful that is impossible to actually punish his behaviour in any real way. Given that constraint, this is a pretty tooth and substantial sanction. $2.5 million, like any fine, is a token fine, but it'll do a lot of good to help worthy organizations, and the rest of the stuff removes him from the picture (even if he will profit from selling the team).

I think reputation is important to these sorts. And especially control, he says that much, I do what I want or I find someone else. Maybe not the specifics of this punishment but the loss in reputation not being able to go and do what he wants(he must enjoy the game) I bet it hurts quite a lot.

Baseball did with Marge Schott. So there is precedence here.

He made old white guys lose money, there is no greater crime.

And Canadia.

The total package they offered for the Kings approached $1 billion. I think you're overestimating any potential losses from moving the team.

Silver>>>Stern already.

Good job, although my only gripe is that banning him from attending games seems odd. If he wants to attend a game so be it, put him on the jumbo tron and let people boo the fuck out of him.

Leave it to a Knicks player to look like he just woke up while everyone else looks like a presentable human.

...because buying video games on Steam isn't anywhere near running a business?

Unless you're equating buying games to buying players. That makes this a whole different issue then

No, let him fester elsewhere with his yes men and women propping him up, only for him to realize that he can't step foot in the building. That's the real stinger. Let his mind grasp that..

That would probably create a hostile environment for the players and fans, and I doubt sponsors or the leage want to see Sterling's face on TV

But I agree Silver >>> Stern. Stern is a clown that would fine the Mavs and Spurs while letting Sterling linger and make millions in the league

There will be groups that will bid that will put up just as money as any Seattle group. Magic and he Guggenheim partners, if they throw their hat into it, will likely easily put up a billion. And that will be to keep the team in LA and all the revenue that goes along with that.

Grumblings of teams getting moved arise from arena issues. There is no such issue with the Clippers. I doubt the subject of them being moved is ever even brought up once they hit the market. There will be no shortage of suitors who will be just fine with keeping the team in La.
